“A Royal Treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

It was majestic, perched atop the town of Loreto, Apurtino, in the glow of the morning Sun. We had come all the way from the U.S. in search of family ancestors and were anxious to set foot on the ground. From the moment we arrived, we were treated as though we were celebrities, given the Royal Treatment. Our suite offered a morning exposure overlooking the quaint homes and paths in town and breakfast in the room as an option, although dining in the breakfast room of the castle was a treat in itself, offering limitless Italian selections of pastries, cheeses, meats, fruits, cereals, yogurts, juices, fine teas and of course Espresso. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, assuring our night's rest was suitable for a king and queen. They began suggesting points of interest for dining and shopping in Loreto, but our goal was to find family. So after walking the ancient streets and alleys and stopping for our daily Gelato, we returned empty handed. Marina, of Guest Services, then searched the resources she had access to and found our family's location merely half an hour away. She offered to lead us there with her vehicle, translate during our visit together and complete the highlight of our Italian trip in under 2 hours. If you're in the region of Aprutino, Italy enjoying its vast diversification, be sure to visit the town of Loreto and majestic Castello Chiola, where they treat you like royalty.

Room Tip: Off season you have a good chance of room upgrade and the weather is still quite comfortable in Octo...

We stayed locally in a small villa and ate here on the second night. The food was excellent, as was the service, it was very quiet in the restaurant and we're not really sure why. Everything was very good. On our last night we decided to come back and stay the night and were so glad we did. The room was huge, cool and well equipped, the pool is small but underused so it was fine. If staying in the area again we'd stay here without a doubt.

Nice looking hotel in a beautiful hilltop town
The rooms are ok, with air conditioning
The pool is quite small and looks better on the website
The reception was not very friendly, didn't seem happy that we had arrived at 12.30 in the afternoon and they were trying to quote that they had a 2.00 clock check in policy, however the next morning when I heard people asking if they could stay on a little longer I heard them being chased out by 11.00 in the morning
Incidentally we checked out at 8 because we were touring
Plus points
The girls cleaning the rooms were really friendly and the breakfast was excellent
Gluten free bread was readily available at breakfast

We have just returned from a fabulous weekend here attending a wedding. The hotel is amazing - the rooms are very spacious and have everything you need the facilities are outstanding and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. The pool isn't large but plenty big enough to enjoy a little dip. The food is amazing - we will deffinatley go,back The hotel is a hidden gem and sits on top of the hill over the village and has speculated 360 degree views a must for a wedding or a couples retreat

The Castello is in a quiet location above the town giving it amazing views. We had a cavernous suite with dual aspect windows, we could not have wished for more from this wonderful hotel. The staff went out of their way to help and service was excellent. The restaurant has some amazing old wooden presses as well as lovely vaulted ceilings. The food is excellent as is the wine selection. So tranquil .You will love it!

Room Tip: go for a suite

I have stayed at Castello Chiola any number of times over the years, from 2005, including my honeymoon when we had a party for a number of my friends from the UK.

From the drive along the winding roads into Loreto to the hotel itself it was pure joy. The hotel was an old warriors haven and has been converted into a magnificent hotel full of understated grandeur and luxury. The location with a view of the Apennine mountains from the rear is astounding and it really is a couples paradise.

The staff were all amazing, courteous and extremely professional and you could not fault the service or attention to detail.

The food at the hotel, breakfast, dinner or a sandwich by the pool was of the highest quality and the waiting staff were simply faultless.

We have stayed in all the junior suites and can recommend all they are simply stunning. Grand luxury within a historic building. My only quibble was the shower fittings which by my last 2 stays had been replaced by inferior products and we had to ask a number of times for them to be descaled. As my last stay was some time ago i'm sure this issue has been resolved.

Their is so much to see with an hr or so form the hotel, including Campo Imperatore, Sulmono, L'Aquila, and so much more. We even managed a days skiing which is only 1hr from the hotel.

The place is just gorgeous and i cannot recommend it enough...

The occasion for my visit was a wedding (fantastic one!) and I stayed for 2 nights.
I immediately fell in lov with this hotel, everything seemed perfect and so did the location (just 2,5-3 hours drive from Rome Fumicino airport).
Great food, lovely settings and a grand room with a king size bed...just perfect!
(the only drawback: wifi only available in the lobby area. But then again, who come to a place like this to surf the net?)
Being winter-time the outdoor pool was closed, but Im sure I will return again during a warmer time of the year.

Truly a place for romance :)
