Hotel Casa del Campo
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for 2 weeks in the summer. The area is excellent and this hotel is a great choice if your budget is lower than needed for the luxury hotels in Madonna di Campiglio proper.

The hotel is in Campo Carlo Magno, a 5 minute's drive from Madonna proper. You can also walk.

The scenery is beautiful, although the hotels there are all on the local highway (technically, a single carriageway.) Traffic is not bad, but crossing the street at rush hours needs attention if you're with kids. The location is great for both skiers in winter and hikers in the summer, although you'll need short trips with a car or public transit to reach your starting points.

The rooms are very nice and clean. Double kudos for the bathroom which had both tub and a hi-tech shower with sauna. They accepted our dog with no problems whatsoever, and I didn't notice an animal surcharge in the check although the booking site mentioned it.

The restaurant is very fine. Although we had a B&B option we ended up eating there most evenings. The booking site mentioned an extra €100 a day for 2 adults and a toddler for half-board: we never spent more than €80 eating à la carte entrées and a main course with dessert, so think twice if the HB price is >40 per person.

The continental buffet breakfast wasn't great, as it only featured croissants, mediocre bread with customary butter and jam and a minimal choice of juice. This took a half point off of our final rating.

The other half point is missing because although the hotel offers free wifi, it was awfully slow and unreliable, especially at night—and I'm not complaining for not being able to watch Netflix: I kept having problems checking mail and news sites.

Stayed: August 2014

If you are a light sleeper, as we are, then you need to have room in the back of this hotel. The rooms that have panoramic mountain views also, unfortunately, are above the main road and noise is an issue. We stayed instead in room 205, which is in the back corner, with a deck that still had a side-angle view of some of the mountains. That room worked fine for light sleepers, with the caveat that the hotel (and town) were empty in June, so noise from the hallway and other rooms may be issue when the hotel is more crowded. We couldn't figure out how to use most of the features in the small shower, but that may be a device that Europeans understand better than us (from USA). The hotel's restaurant was okay for breakfast (included in the room price) and dinner, but nothing special, with the notable exception that Fabbio's service (in the restaurant and hotel) was excellent. We appreciated the excellent advice from the hotel regarding where to drive to nearby for the best view of the Brenta Dolomites.

The hotel is beautiful and very clean, rooms and bathroom are spacious and the the massaging shower was a bliss after a day of skiing
Location is perfect for ski lifts - short walking distance to Pradalago & Groste. Not so much for Madonna di Campiglio town centre - you need a car/to use a ski bus to get there as the hotel is located in the next village (Campo Carlo Magno)
The lady at the reception doesn't really speak English but I shouldn't complain, since I was a tourist in Italy and didn't speak any Italian.
The breakfast was nice but had mainy sweet selection of croissants, jams, delicious cakes and not many cheese, ham etc. Hard boiled eggs were served just after 8am, when we were already finishing our breakfast.
All in all very nice hotel!

We stayed for a week at the Casa del Campo in early April - tempted by reports of exceptional snow this year. It's built in traditional chalet style, with lovely carved pine everywhere, but sparkling new and clean - you feel as if you're a guest in a millionaire's chalet. The staff were delightful - not all spoke good English, but communication was no problem. Our room had a wide balcony and lovely open view across the nursery slopes - whose lifts one could have used to get back to the hotel earlier in the season, but were no longer closed in April. Not a problem though, a one-minute car journey to the lift station just down the road. We know the ski-ing well - we've been to Madonna many times before - and found the pistes as well maintained as ever in April. This late in the year the West side of the mountain gets slushy by mid-day, but Groste had surprisingly good snow throughout the day.
What makes the Casa del Campo so special is that its bar is used by the locals - who bring their big mountain dogs (perfectly trained, don't worry) with them for their evening drink. What better endorsement could there be?
We'd certainly come back some time, maybe summer, maybe another last-minute decision if the snow's looking good for Easter.

I spent 4 days skiing Madonna at the beginning of March and enjoyed it immensly.
I booked a single room at an excellent price, belying the quality of the hotel.
From the warm and helpful reception I received from the staff when arriving at 11:30pm, to the very personal service at the restaurant, I felt right at home.
I booked half board and was extremely pleased with this decision. The Restaurant was amazing - the food and the service. The 4 course meal included an excellent selection, much more than I could finish even after a long hard day of skiing.
The location across the street from the slope access and 100 meters from ski rental and ski school was excellent. Apart from shopping, there was no real need to go into town.

Special thanks to Sandokan and Junio (I hope spelled correctly), whose personal service made my stay such a memorable one.

The hotel is located at a very convenient place. It is situated less than 50m walking distance from the ski runs which all interconnect with Madonna Di Campiglio ski area. The rooms are very spacious, luxury and clean (compared to other hotels we have stayed in). The ski room is also very conviniently situated inside the hotel. The staff is so friendly and helpful!! We really enjoyed our stay...Thank you guys!!!
