Bella Baia Relais

We were only able to have a 3-night stay, but it was enough to recharge and relax in this wonderful setting. I didn't realise that there were still such places left on the Amafi Coast. Great welcome from Beniamina and Venturino, who were waiting to meet us on arrival hand over the Keys.
Our studio was large and very well-furnished, with a comfortable bed and good-sized bathroom. The outside had a terrace with sea-view and ample space to eat.
The walk down to the sea was quite a way down, but well worth it. I was often the only one down there until about 10 o'clock, when the boats started to arrive, although there weren't that many despite it being July. The scenery is spectacular.
Highly recommended!

When we first drove up to what we thought was the address, we found was a large boarded up estate, and we were a little worried. But once we were shown to our cottages, we were very pleased, We had two cottages, both renovated with good furnishings. The beds were comfortable. The porches and yard have amazing views of the sea. The air conditioning was not working in the upstairs unit, but we had cool nights and good breezes, so it was not a problem. There are tables outside so that you can have a meal and enjoy the view, but have some bug repellent on hand in the evenings. The property is secluded and is in a lemon grove, but you can be in town in just a few minutes. We did go down the 300 stairs to the sea, but you still have to climb down some rocks to get to the water and then swim to the beach. We have older children, so it was fun for them, but not something I would do with young children. The hike back up was a little rough, but if you are in decent shape it is worth it. We loved staying here and would recommend it to all our friends, but you should know what to expect before you book.

What a find! This place is heaven on earth! Not only that we felt that we own this place (end of September), because our small house/cottage was in the lower right part of the lemon grove, but this place is really a heaven on earth. We had a little outside kitchen with all the necessities (bring repellent, bugs are really annoying), where we baked fresh fish and sea-food bought in local fish shop (in Maiori or Amalfi) and had a blast. Due to the fact that we visited the place in the end of September, we were the only ones by the sea. You have to walk like "thousand"steps down to get to the sea and you have two options: either you go behind the last deployed house and to the right and down where is a small spot with shower, where you can walk through rocks to the sea, or you can go through lower gardens to the absolute left until you see a small sandy beach on the other side and walk around the rocks (back to the right and down to what looks like big concrete hole) and back to the left (I recommend reliable shoes and to be careful :-) to the small flat space, where you can put your stuff and towel and you can jump or step down through rocks to the sea and swim to the sandy beach. As some of the reviewers mentioned, you should arrive during the week (not Sunday, because bus transportation is really limited) and it's really safer to use public transport, because driving around Amalfi might be challenging for drivers from the big cities, who are used to wide roads and organized traffic control. Even though that bus transportation is not 100percent reliable, it's ok if you are not in a rush, if you want to catch your train, it's really easier to catch one or two buses earlier than you plan, because one or two might not arrive on time (it happened to us like three times during one week we were there, so better safe than sorry). You can reach all nearby highlights by public transport and connect to Napoli, Pompeii and Vesuvio, Amalfi and Ravello or Capri from Amalfi. I highly recommend this place to young people, who don't mind walking up a few steps and who don't break down due to the fact that the bus doesn't come on time, it's a perfect choice if you want to enjoy wonderful Amalfi without crowds, tourists and all the rush of thousands of tourists in the area.

Just back from our stay at this gem! Very friendly family run accomodation. Beautiful setting within terraced groves of lemon, orange, clementines, grapefruit and kiwi trees, which we were free to enjoy. The walk through the groves takes you all the way to the water's edge, from where you can swim/kayak to a secluded beach enclosed by cliffs and inaccessible to cars.

The apartment had a good kitchenette which was well equiped, full of character and we had a semi private courtyard.

The location is a 2 minutes drive from Maiori but this added to the experience for us, albeit you do need a car to get around.

We chose Bella Baia after reading the reviews, and looking at the photos online, which do not do the place justice! We have thus, taken the liberty of uploading our own photos to hopefully portray how incredible this place truly is. A renovated ruin situated on the sea front of the main Amalfi coastal road; contains 3 private apartments with their own entrance, terrace and stone BBQ, all with sea front views. The brother and sister owners couldn't have been more welcoming, bringing olive oil when we were out, and providing their own lemoncello made by their mother. The accommodation is also made up of a working lemon farm, with the most incredible Amalfi lemons for you to select and use; as well as incredible wild herbs for you to forage and pick at your leisure. The lemon grove takes you all the way down to the sea front where you can jump off rocks and swim in a private little cove with a beach that is only accessible by boat or from the accommodation. We spent a week in rustic, earthy, beautiful paradise and would recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: We had the Gennaro room, which in our opinion, was the best!

Having stayed a week in a cold, dark, damp (and frankly, grubby) apartment in the hills of Agerola, Amalfi, the apartment we got at Bella Baia Relais near Maiori was literally a breath of fresh air! What was turning out to be an expensive disaster of a holiday was saved by Beniamina and Buonaventura, the sibling owners of the property. The apartment was clean, bright (with light from three sides) and well appointed with fully stocked kitchenette and air-conditioning included. A beautiful little sun terrace captured a glimpse of the stunning sea views which opened up as one ventured down the somewhat daunting terraced steps down to the Mediterranean. Not for the infirm or aged, my girlfriend and I trekked several times a day up and down the 400 steps for a swim. And boy, is it worth it. Pictures will do little justice to fantastic vistas and if you fancy being Robinson Crusoe for an afternoon, a short swim round the bay will reward you with a secluded beach (but for a very few Italians who may have reached it by boat). Just be aware that the sand gets extremely hot (yes, I made that mistake) and it is cleaned only by the sea!
The property as a whole consists of several terraces built into the hillside and linked with a very long series of stone steps. Groves of lemons, grapes and even Kiwi fruit provide shelter at every level. A great deal of planning has gone into the layout - for example there are at least three showers to help you wash away the salt water from your swim or simply cool off. There are a couple of permanent barbequeues (and I recommend that you use them - you simply cannot beat grilled fish, fresh from one of Maiori's Pescherias) as well as an outdoor kitchen near one of the larger sun terraces lower down the property. We were encouraged to treat the property as our own and since there were few other guests doing so, it felt as though the whole place was ours - at least for six days! Moreover, Beniamina and Buonaventura invited us to join them with their friends on the first day to sample home-made wine from their very own grapes, and a range of local food. Without this invite, the six days we had at Bella Baia Relais would have been great. And with? Their initial welcome made the trip extremely memorable. Bravo! Grazia Mille!

Such a beautiful, tucked away location, lovely hosts, would recommend particularly to couples for a romantic getaway (I went there with my partner and friends, is perfect for both). Is a little tricky to get to so make sure you get directions before heading there. Will go back again for sure!
