Just back from a stay at this hotel. We were 2 adults and 2 kids aged 7 & 9. Hotel staff very friendly, pool was fantastic, but it is outdoor, so be brave and dive into the cold water, its worth it as the views from the pool are outstanding. Food at hotel was ok, but plenty of it. Hotel is on steep hill, but its only about a 3 min walk to main road, then about a 10 min walk from the town, so we had no probs with the walking. Our room was seperate to hotel, they have built 4 studio like room in seperate building at the back, our room was very spacious, had 4 beds, large bathroom, jacquzi bath, heated towel rack, our own front garden, which was great for kids at night. Rest of Hotel is a little dated, but was very clean. I would recommend this hotel to family & friends and i am def going back for a stay ( minus kids ) as Malcesine not really a kiddy place, more for couples. Cant even begin to describe the town, its so beautiful , pictures do not do it any justice, u need to see it for yourself, we went there for a wedding, and it was fantastic. For the Ladies, u have to walk through the streets ( steep ) to get to the castle, no cars allowed, its all cobbled, pebble cobbled, so extremely hard to walk in high heels so i had to find out, so bring flat shoes for trip up and down, as going down steep hills in cobble and heel is harder than walking on glass !
Food & Drink also very reasonable in the restaurants, it is cheaper for a 1/4 jugs of wine than it is to buy a mineral. If your kids love pizza then most restaurants do them, they are large and will easily do 2 kids or adults, and only cost around 6.50, pasta dishes not much dearer. Boat trips over to Limone across the lake are quiet resonable too, 8 euro return, trip takes about 20 mins, and its well worth a visit.
And you are better off ignoring weather forecast, we were forecasted a week of rain, thunderstorms, went there and sun was out for the week, temp up in late 20's, low 30's.
We also took a trip to Gardaland, its about an hour away by bus, its a theme park, loads of rides and really big rollercoasters, it is well worth going to to pass a day. 30 Euro for an Adult and 26 Euro for kids, so i do recommend this as much for adults as kids, its a bit like Euro disney but not as busy.
