“nice hotel”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Nice hotel, although on entering the foyer it is littered with cheap artificial flowers which spoils the appearance and decor. Over all it is a lovely hotel but would rate it 3 star not 4! Staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Very clean, though rooms could do with a few alterations. The brochures make this look as if all rooms have a wonderful lake view, when in fact only the top floor rooms can see the lake, we had a room overlooking a car park then were moved to one on the other side overlooking a green baize roof littered with rubbish! Food very good, though more aimed at the German market. As stated it is a 25minute walk uphill from Malcesine.

Room Tip: Only top floor rooms have a view of the lake

Had a great experience at this hotel from the moment we checked in. You need to be aware that the restaurant is self service, but a well organised self service. Food is of very good quality, well presented and properly cooked, also free wine and beer with your meals.. Rooms are very spacious especially in the new part at the rear of the hotel, all of these have a view of lake Garda, but to be honest all the rooms are large as far as we noticed. Would definitely use this hotel again for any future trip to malcesine.

My husband and I who are 33 and 34 have just returned from a weeks stay at Majestic Palace and the fact that I am already looking to book up for next year at the same hotel speaks volumes.
We booked via Thomsons/Crystal and from the minute we booked the communication from Crystal was fantastic - they confirmed everything, gave us emergency contact numbers and offered advice and info on trips etc so that we could decide on what we wanted to do and plan our holiday. We would definitely recommend Crystal - the rep Ray was extremely helpful and when we needed to check something with him late one night - we had a reply back within minutes.

We initially booked up to attend a friends wedding and decided to make the most of it and stay for a week. The wedding itself was at Malcesine Castle and was stunning - out of this world. The setting and views were breathtaking so if you're looking for somewhere to get married - this is the place to do it.

The hotel is situated about a 15-20 minute pleasant walk downhill to the castle and main town of Malcesine - we enjoyed this walk however if you have difficulties it may seem quite far. We did discover that directly opposite the hotel beside the car park there is a path that leads you to steps that take you directly down - we discovered this as we were leaving so I have no idea if this is a quicker route or not. As the hotel is situated uphill - this only enhances the stunning views over the mountains and lakes.

We booked a deluxe room and were on the 6th floor so our view was stunning. The rooms were huge with two massive double beds and a further sofa bed, large double wardrobes, chest of drawers, full length mirrors, air conditioning etc etc so no complaints at all about the rooms.

We booked half board and I could not fault the food - they offered everything from meat, fish, pasta, pizza, soup, salads, breads, veg etc etc. The puddings were fantastic with plenty of choice - breakfast was the same with a huge choice from continental to full fry up. The croissants and Italian breads were fresh and plentiful. Breakfast didn't open until 6.30am - however they opened this up for us at 05.30am on the day we left due to an early pick up which was a lovely gesture. They also provided lunch for us free of charge 4 times per week which was another added bonus. Lunch and Dinner also includes free white, rose or red wine available on pumps along with beer and juice - fantastic value and not expected at all. Providing you consume it in the dining area you can drink as much as you want.

The hotel was spotless and constantly being cleaned - towels changed daily and room cleaned daily. The staff were all friendly and helpful at all times.

The hotel has three massive pools and an indoor pool - all were kept clean and tidy. The grounds are well kept.

We booked a trip to the Dolomites and Venice and would recommend both. Malcesine harbour offers multiple boat trips to Limone and others towns across the lake daily which I would again recommend if you have the time. The restaurants and cafes within the town are stunning and again I cannot complain about the food or drink at all. The prices were reasonable but there are some restaurants that are pricey too.

We also decided to walk up Mt Baldo which was a good 2 1/2hr trek if you are fit - we discovered several walking and cycling routes along the way which were all marked out. The paths can be located directly behind the cable car station.

If you are hiring road/mountain or city bikes we would recommend Bike Xtreme which is located also beside the Cable Car station. The staff are very helpful and the prices are reasonable - about 25 euros for a full days road bike hire, 25-50 euros for mountain bike hire (depending on specifics) and 10 euros for a city bike.

Overall - the holiday was the best we have ever been on - we just ran out of time to do everything. We would thoroughly recommend Malcesine, Majestic Palace, Thomson and Crystal, the trips available and everything that Lake Garda has to offer - we could not fault the place.

For the ladies - high heels are definitely not the best - the town is completely cobbled but there are lovely paths around the lake that are not so it depends where you want to go. Just make sure you pack sandals or wedges as I would say they were more suitable.

The weather was also a bit unpredictable but we got several sunny days so were able to sunbathe on the pebble beaches and swim in the Lake which wasn't as cold as I expected. It can be cool in the morning and at night so take suitable clothing - basically pack for all weather as it can change quite quickly.

We'll be back next year as there is so much we didn't get a chance to do. We think there is something for everyone and if you are fit and active or love fantastic scenery - this is the place to go. The Italians were so pleasant and we cant wait to go back.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are huge and have fantastic views of the Lake and the Mountains

have just returned from Malcesine staying at the Majestic Palace.
This hotel is set in wonderful gardens and has 4 pools. very child friendly. we travelled in a large wedding party and ages ranged from 10months to 84yr old . we stayed in luxury rooms set at the back of the hotel . rooms were cleaned and towels changed every day. nice selection of food and the desert selection was brilliant ( worth missing main course for)
Hotel was a good 20 mins walk downhill from the town. hard going back with pushchair in the heat of the day. tourist bus every hour and an infrequent bus from hotel. busses charge 1 euro each way. only three taxis in the resort, so long wait when you rang for one. 3/4hr one day. the fares ranged from 9euro to 14euro. staff at majestic friendly and helpful

Room Tip: higher floors give a better view of the lake

Myself, my partner and our 5 month old daughter stayed here from 3rd-11th September. Hotel was exceptionally clean, staff very friendly and food served was always excellent and lots of choice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to families as I was apprehensive in taking our baby abroad and really wanted a hotel that would accommodate children, I researched this hotel before i booked and i can honestly say the staff and facilities were excellent for our needs. All staff remembered our baby's name throughout the holiday and made sure we had a table that had room for our buggy and a highchair. There was no tea making facilities in the room so we asked reception if there was a kettle available to boil some water for the babys bottles. They said there wasn't any but they would make arrangements and within a few hours a brand new travel kettle was delivered to our room.
Although we have a baby, myself and my partner still wanted a relaxing holiday and just be able to chill out and I can honestly say this hotel was fantastic. The hotel was full whilst we were there but it was not overrun with noisy children, it had many different age ranges and was very relaxing by the pools and just had a lovely friendly relaxing atmosphere. Malcesine is beautiful and we enjoyed the 20 minute walk to and from the hotel...the views were amazing and I will definitely be returning for many years to come and would definitely return to this hotel.

We stayed here 24th August for a week for our Wedding. Lovely hotel, excellent food and evening entertainment. Would highly recommend, staff are pleasant and friendly and hotel spotless. The only negative is that there were no tea make facilities in room, but other than that, we would definitely stay here again. :) x

Positives
The staff were excellent , couldn't do enough to help
Rooms were clean (although dated 80's decor) with decent views of the lake and mountains. No need to spend 20 euros extra per night on the deulexe room (although we were not directly infront of the pool)
Facilities were ok pool was well sized and clean
Breakfast was good with a decent selection

Negatives
Food was ok if you like being crammed in a room with 300 people and queuing for all you can eat Italo/brit/german food,
If you decide to dine later (they stop serving at 8.30pm but start clearing away at 8.15pm) you will be asked to leave around 9pm. A pain if you wanted to avoid the hundred or so children running about.
Crazy golf and sauna all cost extra.
Not the nicest 20-25 min walk into Malchesine, became quite a chore by the end of the week (although there is a bus if you care to bus in, also costing extra).

Summary

If you have a young family this may be the place for you, if you are a couple (of any age) I would avoid. We had come for a relaxing week away - this definitely wasn't the place to come. Kind of blame the travel agent for mis-selling it tbh.

Sorry to be a grump but we had a pretty average (expensive) holiday. The highlights were visiting Venice and seeing the towns around the lake via ferry.

Hope this helps.

Room Tip: Don't get a room infront of the pool. Could get quite noisy. The deluxe room we were offered was...
