Have stayed at this Hotel for 11 years running, and I cannot find fault with the way the Hotel sets its standard of good service and upgrading year on year.I Have seen a few negative comments on this Hotel but honestly feel these are just people being ultra picky and not enjoying the outstanding views and character of an old building set in stunning grounds.
Good food Good wines and great service by a team of staff I know try to make everyone feel very welcome. Back again this year 2012 and cannot wait.

We stayed at this hotel expecting great things having read Trip Advisor reviews. It has many good points:

Beautiful views
Pleasant and friendly staff (yes, even the manager!)
Good food (restaurant staff were fantastic, especially the Maitre D')
Rooms were clean
Quiet hotel
Well positioned for the local buses around the lake

However, if you want to stay here you really need to take the following into consideration:

It is a good half hour's walk into Malcesine town, along a very busy and steep road.
In order to walk along the lakefront into the town, you need to walk down and cross the busy road, then walk down a steep path which is difficult if you are at all unsteady on your feet.
There is a local tourist bus which leaves from just past the hotel, but it is still a steep walk to and from the bus stop if you struggle walking and there are a few hours in the afternoon when it doesn't run.
The taxis are VERY expensive, so don't rely on using these to and from the town!

Most importantly, you really must be careful as this hotel has many lovely rooms and many not so nice rooms. Unless you know this hotel well and can book a specific room you may well be very disappointed with your stay there. This is not a cheap hotel, but the accomodation quality is not consistent throughout.

Beware!

The hotel is a beautiful villa in a quiet part of Malcesine. On arrival, we were upgraded to a newly renovated junior suite in the main building which was a nice surprise. The views from the room and balcony were glorious, the best in Lake Garda! We stayed on a half board basis with 4 courses in the evening and continental style for breakfast. All the food was very good and nicely presented with a choice of meals in the evening. The staff were friendly throughout the hotel, from the manager, reception, cleaners and restaurant (nobody was grumpy with us!). Infact the staff went out of their way and nothing was too much trouble. The best thing about the hotel is the location, high up and so peaceful, perfect for a relaxing break. The weather was mixed and not warm enough to use the pool, but it looked gorgeous. We walked into Malcesine one day along the road, it took 15 mins (part pavement/part road) but it was fine. We walked back along the lake and took the stairs up which are very steep and a little run down/overgrown but fine if you are fit enough. We hired a car and went all round the lake and to verona. We visited many places, Malcesine is definitely one of the best villages to be based at. We would love to return in the summer months to enjoy the pool and recommend this hotel highly. I can't believe this is not higher up on trip advisor.

I have written about the Bellevue San Lorenzo before BUT I just want to add news from this year.....2011!
Improvements have been made to this already STUNNING HOTEL!
The rooms in the New Villa were always my favourite....mostly because the rooms were bigger AND more modern.....BUT since I was last there....2010....the rooms in the main house have seen some fabulous refurbishments! It has modernised the feel of the communal parts (with wave-key room entry and automatic corridor lights etc!)
...but,importantly,taken nothing away from the character of the room/s!
There has been a VERY subtle canopy built over the front of the building...beautifully and sympathetically merging with the old building! This has created more suites....with balconies overlooking the enchantiing village of Malcesine! AB FAB!
The staff AND the owner (I mention him as there is adverse comment in previous feedback!) were all on good form and, as usual, nothing was too much trouble!
The dining was, as ever, superb....actually, I would say that it was even better than it has been before....maybe new chef?....I don't know....but it was good dining!
I wish this was my second home!

Dear guest; we know each other since a lot. We are so happy to meet you year by year, that’s means that we are improving our service and bettering it. We are proud that you love so much the hotel Bellevue and that you spent your time to share it with everybody. We also thank you in particular for the words about the renovating works we are making every year; the good impressions of repeat guests give us the confirmation that we are bettering the hotel, but keeping its soul. We look forward to meet you soon next summer!
A big hug from Ruggero, Valentina & the staff.

Beautiful hotel, very well maintained grounds and fabulous infinity pool. Stayed in a Junior suite in the new building which had a terrace with views of the Lake and Malcesine. The room did have air conditioning which some of the older rooms do not.

Although it is a very beautiful hotel, the distance from the town centre did become a bit of a chore after a few days. We travelled as a group, most of whom were staying in the cente of town and we did envy them a little at the end of each night as we made the journey back to the hotel. To be fair we spent most of the day out of the hotel, so a central location would have suited us better.

Malcesine is a wonderful place, and when we return, we will base ourselves in one of the apartments in the city centre but would still recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a stylish place to stay who dont mind being based outwith the centre of town.

The view is breathtaking and ambience is serene. The communal areas are very slick and stylish. The comlplex as a whole is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. The facillities are very impressive with two bars a great pool and a terrace to die for.
The chef is excellent. Over a number of meals we had a number of very high quality dishes including carpaccio of octopus and fillet steak, some of the best food I have ever eaten, let alone in a hotel.
The waiters were attentive, professional and were sympathetic if not amused with my attempts at Italian and the receptionists simply couldn't do enough for us. And then there is the manager/owner.
I have never met someone so ungracious in charging what he charges for a stay and not being happy about it. Any reasonable request made to him was almost greeted with a huff and a sigh. He was clearly unhappy that we wanted to clear our drinks tab at the end of everyday. He pointedly ignored us and seemed offended that we couldn't speak italian-even though we tried from the outset. Don't let this guy put you off though everybody else including cleaners were very friendly. My only other complaint is that the room was a little tired- but very clean and there is air con. Generally very excellent. Highly reccomended

We absolutely loved this hotel. There a several different buildings that make up this hotel and the other reviews make me think that perhaps these vary in terms of feel and decor etc.

We booked a double room with a lake view and then I received a confirmation for a junior suite! I didn't correct this as they had quoted the same price, but they realised the week before and sent me a really polite and nice email just correcting it. This was fine, as it was what I had booked!

When we got there they were really apologetic about the confusion (which had in no way inconvenienced us anyway) and had left us a bottle of wine to apologise. This made me think that the room we ended up with was not going to be very nice. How wrong I was! Ceiling to floor windows with a panoramic view of the lake. A big balcony (it is sort of a shared balcony in that there is not actual fence between next door, but the plants they use as a fence do the same thing and we had no problem with this).

The room was modern, had very good air con and it was incredibly spacious. The bathroom was beautiful and all done very minimalist.

The hotel is a 20 min walk for the centre of malcesine. There are steps down to the lakeside promenade and it is a nice walk. You do have to cross the road, which can be quite busy but there is a crossing just a short way down. We did not find this a problem at all.

Overall we had a wonderful time and we will definitely return here. The staff were lovely and breakfast was nice (we didn't eat any other meals there).

highly recommended!

Room Tip: We had room 207 which was in a new block.
