“Terrible food treated like 2nd class citizens”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2011

Went to this hotel on a Caledonian coach tour. Basically you are treated like second class citizens. The food is terrible and the rooms small and basic and my room was particularly noisey due to late night revelers and early morning deliveries etc. . The staff were sullen and unhelpfull. Single room occupancy meant no choice and reception categorically refused to even consider any change of room. Although this hotel has a great location the fact you are with a coach tour seems to relegate you to sub standard unacceptable treatment. Would not recommend this hotel for those reasons.

rooms OK a bit basic .
great location views fantastic ,
staff friendly and helpful ,
food in the hotel ( not good If you eat in the resident restaurant . If you wont to eat out on the lovely decking you have to pay, food very good it seems that it comes from too kitchens If I went back I would go B&B their are lots off places to have a good meal and at all prices.
Melcesine for use was the best location on the lake we had a fabulous 7 days could have stayed longer if we have the chance would go back and stay at this good but basic hotel for it great location but only B&B

Room Tip: had a side view ok

Wasn't sure about this hotel after reading reviews however the hotel was fantastic. Will definitely be staying there again. The hotel was in an excellent location. The staff were very friendly, the rooms were very clean. Ok, theres no air con but you don't need it, there's always a cool breeze from Lake Guarda. Value for money was excellent, other hotels in Malcesine are expensive. If your lucky to get the chance and visit Malcesine I'd recommend this hotel.

Excellent lakeside location. Clean and comfortable room. Half board food plentiful and good. Staff friendly and helpful.
No internet access. No room safe though hotels safe at reception available. Some noisy deliveries in the early morning.

Having travelled to Malcesine in 2007, myself and my girlfriend's family were utterly overwhelmed at the beauty of our location. So we decided to return June 2011 and I have to say...it felt like our home away from home!! There were 11 of us and we have never felt so welcome. Managers and Staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and attentive to every need. Our meals were to die for - a breakfast that was basically a lunch buffet, and a a varied 4 course dinner every night that epitomized Italian cooking. And as a family who are always thinking about the next meal, we "had our fill" in Malcesine. There are plenty tours around Lake Garda to Limone, Bardolino, Riva, etc...or if you want to travel further out there are coach trips to Milan, Rome and Venice. The night life is best suited under the category of "anyone and everyone" with cocktails and ice-cream sundaes a-flowing!!

Between the bars, cafes, restaurants, designer shops, boat tours, wine and food shops, and just the general scenery, you'll never find yourself with a moment to spare in Malcesine!! =^)

Hotel Malcesine is centrally positioned the only disadvantage of is that one or two rooms may be noisy up to 2300hrs. Malcesine as a location is superb, everything you would wish for from a typical Italian town. The hotel cleanliness is of a very high standard, food is good and plentiful and wine is reasonable priced. We found the restaurant staff the most pleasant we have encountered for a long time and the receptionist was again the most helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

Don't expect the Hilton, as this is a slightly dated, mid priced hotel which does have a family run feel about it.

What it does have however is a FANTASTIC location. The little town of Malcesine is the nicest lake side location and this hotel is right in the thick of the wonderful atmosphere.

Attached to the hotel is a comfortable board-walk restaurant over the water's edge which gives a 20% discount to hotel guests (at time of writing).

Our room was in an outbuilding apart from the hotel and was spotless and comfortable. Sounds a bit odd, but it was perfect.

The breakfast was fine, but more geared towards German tastes, as they seem to make up the bulk of tourists in the area.

Downside was the noise from the late night and early start at the restaurant. Not the guests....the staff coming and going and clearing up.

We never had to complain about anything, so cannot vouch for the staff under pressure, but our experience was friendly and helpful otherwise.

Be in no doubt, if luxury and peace are your aims, perhaps not the place for you. If you want to have the waterside - people watching - street cafe - shopping - music experience on your doorstep then this is the place to go for.
