We booked this hotel for the first night of our road trip holiday. I was a bit nervous after reading recent reviews about bad service and low standards. I have to say we were very impressed. The staff were helpful and friendly, the rooms was eormous, and a little dated, but very clean. We had the top floor, corner room, so the balcony looked onto the lake. The bedroom was on a mezzanine level, and had a fan, but perhaps an elderly person would not like this, as the bathroom was downstairs, and the bedroom part had no windows.

Breakfast was vast, lots of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, croissants, ham and cheese, it was very good, the only thing which could have made it better would be to eat on the lake terrace.

Parking was about 5 min walk away in the town square, and little pricey if you stay more than one night.

It's all about Location, and it just could not get any better! The hotel looked as if it was well used for coach trips/package holidays, but was nice and quiet when we were there.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view if possible.

Booked as a package holiday on a Half Board basis as an 8 day break (through Newmarket Travel). Arrived at past mid night after a stop at motorway services to buy a sandwich- to be greeted by barman who had waited up to check us in. Had paid £112 extra for Lake view for this short break. Tired and annoyed on entering room I drew back curtain to see the Lake - and all I saw was a huge tree blocking out the entire window!!
Things got better, our room was changed to a lovely Lake View 2 days later. Half Board you can not eat your evening meal outside but have to stay on your designated shared table. Really felt 2nd class citizen to the outsiders who could eat on our terrace.
The pluses - A stunning view of the Lake and a central position in the old town. We did not find overly noisy. Enjoyed this aspect very much. Hotel dated and dull inside, lifted by the stunning lake views (if you are lucky enough). The hotel was very clean and the staff very polite and helpful. Breakfast , dull. Evening meals bland.
Would I go again - Yes on a B & B basis and if I could be guaranteed a Lake View. Some of the other problems must be laid at the door of the tour company, so I would definitely arrange my own transport.

Room Tip: Ensure a room at the front with a lake view/ on a B & B basis.

We have just returned from a week in this hotel. The hotel itself was reasonable - a fairly basic room saved by magnificent views over the lake which was thoroughly cleaned every day. Unfortunately the good experience ends there. It was like living an episode of Fawlty Towers! We were on a half board package and staff insisted that we sit at a given table every day, even if there were others at that table and the rest of the restaurant was empty! At breakfast we were required to decide what we wanted for dinner that evening and the choice was limited. And although the hotel has a lovely terrace overlooking the lake, those on packages were treated like second class citizens...not permitted to eat on the terrace or eat from the restaurant menu. The hotel claims to have only 10 fans for 100 rooms and no air conditioning. It also doesn't have any iron. Don't ask for anything as straightforward as ice from the bar...another guest asked for ice late one night as he had been hospitalised earlier with an abcess but hotel refused his request on the grounds that if they gave him ice all 100 rooms would be requesting it! Other guests asked for a little extra pasta for their 18 month old baby at dinner and this appeared to be a problem. And then there is the noise from the street - the hotel next door empties bottles into a bin regularly from early each morning...bin collections once a week are early and noisy. The ferry is noisy and docks beside the hotel but this was a small price to pay for the location. I would NOT stay her again. I don't mind a basic hotel but I do expect basic manners and service!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake. The other rooms look pretty awful so I wouldnt stay there un...

We didn't stay here but eat in the resturant a lot during our stay. Staff were very friendly and a good selection of food. Also grab a table but the lake and feed the ducks!

The staff were excellent on the whole, but the food was terrible! Despite plenty of warning ahead (3 times) for my gluten intolerance they were not prepared, and the sole concession for breakfast was a packet of rice cakes. Once opened, they were just left on my table, not sealed, and therefore went stale in a few days, but no more were forthcoming. The evening meals were tasteless and just bad, a very poor example of Italian food. The other problem was the noise. It's great being in the centre, except when the music and parties continue late into the night, then the bottles are emptied, the street sweepers come in, there are never any quiet times. The rooms were small with no air-conditioning, would be awful in high summer. There are plenty of hotels in Malcesine, don't stay at this one.

Cannot fault the fantastic location or hard working polite staff. We arrived at the hotel at 01:30am in the morning, the weather was monsoon like our cases were soaking wet through, there was transport for our cases to be taken down to the hotel, but we had to to make our own way 400metres to get there. On arrival there was no-one to greet us, no food,no drying facilities. The food for the rest of the week was uneatable. We paid £112 per couple for a lake view, what we got was a view of a toilet block and bike rack. To get the lake view we needed to go to the extreme of our balcony and turn right looking through trees. The balcony itself was full of dead leaves, the furniture was full of bird droppings. We were told that the hotel had been overbooked.

Room Tip: We used Newmarket Holidays to book the holiday, be warned their organisation can be described as ver...

Great location and view. I found the restaurant to be very good and ate there twice. Hotel has no real amenities and no parking, ie. parking tickets are high in Malcesine. The staff was very helpful this includes the waiters and front desk. However, my room was shabby. I could see where some would equate such with a cell. This I was very disappointed with. Overall my stay was above average. this has to do more with the location and environment than the Hotel itself.

Room Tip: Do not request a single room, or go somewhere else.
