We have stayed here twice this year, and both times we were very well looked after by the family. We have just returned after staying there for a week and feel very relaxed and refreshed. We will be returning again soon. The hotel is basic but it does have everything you need, if you are not looking for a high end boutique holiday and the service and manners from the family are second to none.

Room Tip: If you want a lake view, ask for a third floor room the views are stunning, however please bear in m...

We chose Hotel Casa Serena from the rating it had on Trip Adviser reviews, plus cost and facilities. We did not want a gym or sauna or room service or late bar or big restaurant. I did not like the photo on their web site of the white plastic tables and bright green plastic chairs. Boy was I wrong. The tables were top rated solid acrylic on stainless basses. The chairs were leather and the green was in keeping with this very clean and crisp reception bar area.
The breakfast room is well designed and spotlessly clean like the rest of the hotel. The choice is continental from the well stocked help your self counter. You had 3 cereal, fresh yoghurt, rolls, croissant, marble cake, crisp bread, 3 types of cold meat, ermantal slices, hard boiled eggs, jams and pastes. Orange juice coffee and tea to drink. It was to look forward too.
We had a room with a balcony looking through lovely trees towards the lake. First thing in the morning was a great site of the sun on the tops of the mountains that possibly, are only half a mile across the lake. We opened both doors and leant on the balcony rail, watching the local traffic go past and hearing the sounds of this lake side country area.
The room has a large bed with room to move around it. ( I am 16 stone and it was easy) The bed has two individual big duvets. (What bliss to have it to myself ALL night). We slept like logs every night on this very comfortable bed. there are power points either side of the bed. In the wardrobe is a safe that you set with your own code, very handy. The room has two straight back chairs and a dressing table. The bathroom has a good shower, WC, Bidet and sink. The mirror is illuminated and the fitted hair dryer is powerful.
We were so lucky to have chosen an hotel we are going back to next year and that we were so lucky to make a good choice on our first holiday for 20 years, partially due to trip Adviser reviewers. Thanks to all of you.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor with lake view.

We spent four nights here in October 2012 and received a warm welcome from the family who run the hotel. They were very helpful offering advice on the local area and also run a very cheap hotel bar!
The rooms are basic, non air conditioned (which didn't bother us as it was a pleasant temperature in the evenings) and were equipped with everything we needed. Our only gripe about the rooms was that the cleaner kept opening our balcony door during the day and leaving it open whilst we were out, which we felt was a bit of a security risk but as the rooms include a safe we weren't too bothered.
Breakfast was a simple continental buffet but perfectly adequate as you spend so much time eating in Italy anyway!
The pool area is a particularly nice feature of the hotel and we did brave the unheated pool, which was pretty cold in October but I imagine would be great in the summer months.
The hotel is on the main road, but pretty much everything is on the lake, unless you're further up the mountain and so there is road noise but this eased off in the evenings and the view more than makes up for any disturbance. There is also an ample car park which is easily spotted from the main road.
It is a lovely 10 minute walk to the centre of Malcesine along the side of the lake and we had no problems finding our way around. Malcesine itself has loads of restaurants and bars that are great for people watching and the castle and cable car up to Monte Baldo are both worth doing (you can get a joint ticket for both attractions which saves you quite a lot of money).
In summary, this is a great budget hotel for a place to rest your head and we would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the mountain side will be quieter as further away from the road - but then you don't ge...

A lovely hotel, with restaurant, pool, parking and wifi. A great location with a scenic lake-side walk into the town centre (about 10-15mins)
Extremely good value for money.
The room was basic but had everything needed. Comfortable beds, private bathroom, balcony, TV and safe. We overlooked the pool and sun terrace, with mountain views.
The staff are amazing - very helpful and friendly.
The road at the front can be busy. Trying to relax on the balcony was difficult and I can imagine it to be very noisy if laying by the pool in the warmer weather. With the windows closed though, there was no issue.
One possible issue would be lack of privacy for our room, if there were other residents making use of the sun terrace - which was literally adjacent to our balcony, but for us at this time of year was not an issue.
I would happily recommend this hotel and will definitely be going back there myself.

Room Tip: Rooms with mountain views are quieter. Twin beds are available on request.

I booked this hotel for my wedding party. They seemed to love the hotel. It was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful especially the morning of the wedding. The decor is a little 80's and the hotel is quite dark but that is all the faults i can think of. The food in the evening time was amazing and very reasonable. Great hotel and only a 10 minute walk from malcesine center, which is a lovely walk along the lake side.

A very nice hotel and good value for money. The evening meal was fine, but for the price don't expect a lavish gourmet dinner. Rooms were very nice and it's no real hardship to live without air conditioning for a while. A nice touch was the tablecloth and cushions on the balcony furniture. The pool area was lovely, with a nice hardwood decking surround that didn't burn your feet like stone would do. The only quirk is that at dinner you can only buy a whole bottle of wine which gets capped and returned to you at the next evening meal if you don't drink it all. If you don't want this the solution is to buy your drink at the bar (a few feet from the dining room!) and walk it in yourself. Most hotels in this area are on the main road because there is only one road round the lake so traffic noise is unavoidable. If you have trouble sleeping then you haven't had enough Valpolicella, Bardolino, Birra alla spina, Spritz Aperol or Campari Orange. For the benefit of correcting a 2008 review, they now take credit cards.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front will have the best view over the pool and lake but will be slightly worse for tra...
