What an amazing little hotel on the outskirts of malcesine! This hotel is in a beautiful spot and nicely secluded for a romantic week away. Only 20 mins walk away from malcesine town we found a beautiful walk along the lakeside although I wouldn't recommend the walk along the main road which isn't paved! Malcesine itself is beautiful with a lovely view from the top of the cable car (although queues can be over an hour!)

Back to the hotel though - we had paid for a superior lake view room and what a room! Modern and well equipped there was no need to leave even to catch the sun with the massive loungers on the balcony. The food was excellent and although only 3 options of starter and main there was always something to choose (although might not suit all tastes!). Wine was reasonably expensive as expected but with a supermarket 2 minutes away you can always stock up the fridge in he hotel room!

The staff were all very helpful and overall I couldn't fault the stay and would definitely go back there again.

We stayed at the Maximilian Hotel at the end of May 2013. The hotel generally had excellent reviews, so we had high hopes for a lovely relaxing stay.

On arrival at the hotel, our room wasn't ready, which was a little disappointing after our very early start, however we were quickly given a couple of coffees and asked to wait in the lounge. After about 20 minutes we were shown to our room.

Sadly our room wasn't in the main hotel, but across the garden in a separate block. The room was sparsely furnished and lacked any finishing touches, such as pictures on the walls, that would have made it a little more welcoming. The bed was actually two single beds pushed together with separate duvets, not very romantic!
There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, but fortunately, having read several reviews of the hotel before hand, we knew this and had brought a travel kettle from home.
The room had a fully stocked fridge, but as it was quite expensive, we only used it to store the drinks and milk that we bought at the local shop. Another downside to be being away from the main hotel, was having to run/walk through the rain for breakfast and evening meals. A complementary umbrella in the room would have been a nice touch. To be honest we felt as if we were in the 'self catering block' and although we ate in the hotel each day, we never felt as if we were quite on the 'guest list'!

In general the staff were friendly and welcoming, especially the guy who took our suitcases to our room and the elderly waiter, that took our evening meal order each morning at breakfast.

The food at the hotel was lovely, but not for those with limited palettes, such as my partner. He struggled to find anything he liked on the menu. (fussy bugger!!) I however loved the varied tastes on offer and thoroughly enjoyed each and every meal.

As the weather was a lot cooler than expected, we didn't use the pool, or even venture into the garden. We walked into Malcesine most days. This took about 25 minutes along a flat path that ran alongside Lake Garda. We also visited Limone (beautiful) by boat and took the local bus to Riva del Garda, Lazise, Garda, Bordilino, and Verona. Bus tickets should be bought in advance from the newsagents opposite the bus stop. We also took the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo and visited the castle in Malcesine.

We would love to visit this area again, but would stay somewhere a little more central and where you actually stayed in the main hotel, and not in the second class accommodation at the bottom of the garden!

My sister in law and I stayed May 2013. We booked a superior room (for 3) overlooking the lake. From arrival to departure our stay was wonderful. The hotel is lovely. Simple Italian chic. Spotlessly clean. Service top notch but not in your face or over bearing. Breakfast buffet was very comprehensive with something for everyone. Evening meal is 5 courses and very, very good indeed. It has been a long time since I have stayed in a hotel I have liked so much and felt so at home in. If I had any suggestions to make in terms of improvement I would say that a waiter bar service around the pool and gardens during the day would have been nice and I am sure would make the hotel money!! We would also have liked a reading light on the balcony. I wish I could pick the Maximillion up and drop into all the other places around the world I want to visit. Simply stunning!

Our 3rd visit to this family run hotel and it doesn't disappoint. A really really great hotel, stunning views of the lake, excellent facilities, spotlessly clean, superb food, excellent wine cellar and brilliant staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. If you don't go you will be disappointed!

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon in May 2013. We were a little taken aback when we first arrived as I was expecting a bit of a fanfare as we had told Citalia that it was our honeymoon and they had promised to 'do something special for us'- but this did not happen. However, when I asked whether we were in an upgraded room as promised by Citalia, I was informed that we were as we on the first floor as opposed to the ground floor and had a full lake view.

AND WHAT A VIEW IT WAS!!!! Absoltely stunning, Val Did Sogno is just the most beautiful setting and being so close to Malcesine is just a bonus. We walked to and from Malcesine everyday (around 5 miles per day in total) but there is a 1 Euro tourist bus that will take you if needed. The hotel itself is well looked after and the towels are changed daily and the cleaners keep it in very good condition!! My only gripes are that the shower door LEAKED and the floor was always soaked and as it was titled floor, it was quite dangerous! Also the hotel leaked in quite a few placed when it rained (which it did torrentially for one day)!

We were BY FAR the youngest people in the hotel (we are 27) and the majority of the guests were retired individuals but everyone was very friendly!!

However, despite these minor problems, over all the hotel was excellent and I would give it 10/10 if possible! The hotel provided bath robes, flip flops and bags to use around the pools and in the beauty centre (sauna, steam room- (not a Turkish Bath as is indicated but still good and is all included), massages, beauticians and gym- some have charges but all are reasonanble and I can recommend the full body massage for 50 euros)!

The food was really excellent but was a limited choice. Four courses every night and as we were VERY confused as to how it all worked when we first arrived (were not sure what was included and what was not in half board etc) this is a breakdown for you:-

Apperitife- Everyone is 'given' the same plate of food, no choice
Started- Pick one of 3 starters- Usually fish, meat or vegertarian
Main- Pick one of 3 mails- Usually fish, meat or vegetarian
Side- One plate of sides between two of you- everyone is given the same plate of food, no choice
Pudding- Usually a selection of puddings or icecream, fresh fruit etc

The fish and meat were of excellent quality but were not for everyone (e.g Perch, beef cheek, veil, shamois, sole etc etc- there was no pizza, spaghetti, cod or plain chicken in sight!!!)

WATER WITH EVENING MEAL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE HALF BOARD!!! You will be charged 3 euros for a bottle of tap water!!! WINE IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to eat with meals- at least 20 euros per bottle but the SAME wine is 2.95 euros from the Jolly Discount store just up the road!!! We kept a bottle or 4 in the room fridge! The fridge has very expensive cans of pop, wine and crisps in but we didn't have any of them!

The waiting staff were very friendly and the receptionists were on the whole lovely (one lady was a little bit off initially but the others made up for her).

Malcesine- the little town just up the road is absolutely beautiful and we were able to catch the cable car up to Monte Baldo from here and the views were absiolutely spectacular! We caught the little boat over to Limone too and this passed a couple of hours!

Over all the hotel was brilliant and I would highly recommend this for honeymooners or older couples but I wouldn't take a family here as there is no hotel or local entertainment (great for us) and because it is all very expensive!!

Room Tip: Do not go in the annex or on the ground floor of the hotel- not a good view
