“Superb hotel in an exquisite location”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Located a short walk from Malcesine, with its own private lakeside frontage overlooking a beautiful bay, the Maximilian is a superb hotel offering excellent food, courteous, friendly and professional staff and a full range of excellent facilities (indoor and outdoor pools, exercise suite, ample outside lounging areas). Our room led out directly to an outside seating area, with extensive views of the landscaped hotel grounds and the lake. Inside it was comfortable, very roomy with a good-sized bathroom. Everything was top-notch. We dined half-board with an extensive buffet-style breakfast and each evening were presented with a five course menu of high class cooking, in a modern style. (We were asked to choose our evening dishes at breakfast). We loved the seclusion of the hotel – no crowds or roadside noise, just the lapping of the lake to relax by. Malcesine is about 15 minutes away along a lakeside path or there is a “tourist mini-bus” that will take you to the village or other sites nearby. We would highly recommend the Maximilian for those wishing a "get away from it" break with fine dining and the opportunity to enjoy some staggering views.

Stayed 8 nights here and loved every moment of it. The Maximilian is a superb hotel with friendly, helpful staff, great rooms (no. 50 was especially good), wonderful food and in a great location directly on the lake and an easy, level walk by the waters edge to the centre of town. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Malcesine is full of atmospheric cobbled streets, bars, restuarants, leather goods and jewellery shops. The lake is very easy to get around by boat or on the local buses which are a cheap way to explore. The castle in the town is well worth a visit for the views over the rooftops and the cable car rides to the top of Monte Baldo offer the chance to see much of lake Garda, as well as the mountains from which paragliders regularly launch themselves; a spectacle in itself! 10/10 isn't rating the Maximilian or Malcesine highly enough!

Room Tip: Rooms 48, 50 and 52 are excellent. Close to the restaurant and reception and with stunning views ov...

Just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at the Hotel Maximilian in Melcesine on the banks of Lake Garda. High quality of accomodation with great views overlooking the Lake. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. Certainly a "WoW" hotel.

Room Tip: A room in the main building with a lake view is the best option.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights last week in April 2014 and loved it!

We stayed in room 50 and it the views were truly breathtaking! It is not a cheap hotel but then nothing seems that cheap in Italy .... expect for house wine by the 1/2 liter which is great! Compared with other hotels we are staying this holiday, I feel this one is def worth the money. Hosts were great and breakfast good. Only niggle is that some tables seem to be reserved for special guests of the hotel at breakfast (mainly those who eat in the hotel at night I think!). The hotel is walking distance into malcesine though we drove in most evenings as still a little cold at night.

Good indoor and outdoor pool though outdoor one was not heated so be prepared. Lovely bathrobes, flip flops etc all provided and a good range of bathroom goodies. Free parking too in indoor garage and pretty garden area. Modern decoration which was fresh and felt quite new.

We would def recommend to anyone who wants a real 4 star experience and is prepared to pay a Little extra to get it! If we return toLake Garda, which I'm sure we will, we would re-book this hotel for sure! Enjoy it, book it, it's worth it! X

Room Tip: Ask for room 50 or 48, fantastic views!

Sometimes, five stars is just not enough .. If I could rate this hotel higher, then I would without doubt .. Everything was just PERFECT !
My wife and I chose Malcesine for our wedding in September 2013 - After looking through the brochures, the Maximilian seemed to tick all the boxes, so we booked a ten night stay and it was an absolute delight.
Due to a flight delay, we arrived at the hotel after the meal service had finished - On checking in, we were told that a "cold" plate had been set up for us both and one of the waiters had stayed later to serve us - Most welcome after the 1.5 hours coach journey from Verona airport - This was to be typical of the service levels throughout our stay which were constantly of the highest level and a credit to the management of the hotel.
We were shown to our room, which was a newly appointed suite (Suite 11) in a new wing, just a short walk through the gardens from the main hotel building. My first impressions were WOW and then WOW again as the curtains were opened wide to the biggest balcony I have seen which overlooked the gardens and the beautiful lake.
The room had a king size bed with a separate sitting area with TV plus plenty of wardrobe space for the bride and groom. The bathroom was spacious with walk in shower and separate WC.
Next morning, we woke early and the stunning views from the room were amazing, with the mountains soaring to great heights and the blue waters of the lake, combined with the lush green lawns and flowers of the garden.
Breakfast was self service with lots to choose from and could be taken on the balcony next to the main restaurant. Guests on half board are asked to choose their evening meal at this time which seemed a little strange but logical, given the choice and ultimately the quality of the food on offer. Evening meals were of superb quality throughout our stay - The menu varied each day and was a gastronomic delight !
The hotel oozes charm and the staff were all fantastic .. It is within metres of the lake edge and away from the busy main road that meanders around the lake, which makes it a quiet, relaxing atmosphere to enjoy and take in the wonderful scenery.
There is a small outdoor pool plus a larger indoor heated pool with a fitness centre if you were so inclined - Many people chose to swim in the lake which was "refreshing" with its cool clear waters.
The old town of Malcesine is just a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel and is charming with its narrow streets with many good restaurants and shops. The focal point in the town is the wonderful castle, which was to be the venue for our marriage - Surely one of the best venues a couple could wish for and one we will never forget.
It's very easy to explore the lake with frequent ferry services from Malcesine, so take the time to enjoy it - also consider the cable car to Monte Baldo to enjoy unparalleled views of the lake and mountains.
Wonderful, Wonderful Malcesine .. FABULOUS, FABULOUS HOTEL MAXIMILIAN.
Thank you all for everything .. We will never forget you and I'm sure we will be back !!

Room Tip: Suite 11 will always have a special place in our hearts .. but this is only a part of the story as t...

After reading other Trip Advisor comments we decided to go with the Inghams and booked the Hotel Maximillian in Malcesine. We specifically asked for a room with a lake view, quiet and in the main part of the hotel. We arrived approx 1 hour late due to luggage problems on boarding at Gatwick South. With a 1½ coach drive to the hotel we were told by a very professional Ingham’s rep that she had phoned ahead and asked the hotel to provide us with some food as the restaurant would be closed. So when we arrived and checked in the lady on reception was aware of us coming in late and asked us to go into the restaurant for an evening meal. We then had a 3 course meal (hot) and the staff could not be more helpful. We went to out room and found it to be excellent with it having a view across the lake in the direction south to Cassone.
The breakfast on the veranda were really good again having a great view down south of Lake Garda There was some hot food available, egg/bacon, the rest being very fresh fruit, bakery, natural yoghurt and cake, tea or coffee. Once again the service was excellent and staff very polite and not over powering. Evening meals we had in the restaurant looking out to the main reception area where some cars park. This was not an issue for us, we had the same table each night which was good, a choice of starters/main course ordered at breakfast. This suited us so that when we sat down ordered some drinks and wine, the food arrived shortly afterwards. We found the restaurant ambience very good, choice of food very good and quality excellent.
The room we had (No.4) had a marble patio outside the patio doors which had 2 chairs and a table plus there were sun lounges available opposite on the grass area, overlooking the lake.
We chilled out really during this holiday with causal strolls into Malchesine in the morning it takes approx 20 minutes into the town which although busy during the day still maintains a very un spoilt ambiance to the place. You can stop along the way and get a drink/food any time. In the opposite direction there is a splendid walk along a designated walkway/cycle path right done to Garda. We walked to Brenzone and back which at a leisure space took most of the day, on the way back we stopped at the Hotel Piccolo for 2 pizzas, a beer and a carafe of wine ((21 Euros) which was very good, the hotel just off the lake path is very nice and clean, I would consider staying here due to its location.
In the other direction from the Hotel Maximillian by way of the Malcesine town you can also walk to Navene to the North, this will take you past the to the Scaliger Castle of Malcesine which is well worth visiting (it has a very new museum just on the left as you enter) this is also where couples come to get married so there appears to be a wedding very few hours. The walk continues along the lake path passing numerous hotels and apartments where you now reach the carry/passenger ferry to Limone, just before you reach this place the Hotel Europa on the right, again a nice place to stop have drink and take in the views across to Limone. You can keep walking along past the ferry car park to Navene although this is more an area for wind surfers, Para gliding which is worth watching people come down from Mount Baldo and land along the side of Lake Garda.
Take a boat ride across the Lake to Limone (9 Euros each return) well worth it and some nice place to visit, go to the “El Castel” lemon house and take it the smells of lemon trees and learn about the history, also go to the Municipal park which is well worth the views when you a walk up to it

Our last day before we departed we went up to the Dolomites by coach which is some 400 kilometres round trip from Malcesine. It’s well worth the trip up to this area, some 3000m above sea level so take some warm clothing, we went Passo Pordoi via Ora where we stopped off at the Hotel Tenz, a traditional hotel in South Tyrol’s. Pordoi is a pass in the Dolomites in the Alps, located between the Sella group in the north and the Marmolada group in the south. The pass is at an altitude of 2,239 m (7,346 ft), and the road crossing the pass with Canazei (Fascia Valley). It is the highest surfaced road traversing a pass in the Dolomites, fanstatic view here. From here we went onto Ortisei which was a beautiful town. Currently the town's economy is based on winter skiing tourism, summer hiking tourism, and woodcarving with some very good shops to browse.

Finally we flew from Gatwick with Air Dolomiti partner of the Lufthansa group, this was on an Embraer 195 which was nice and clean, comfortable and the crew professional.

Room Tip: If you have a room in the main building under the restaurant be prepared to hear some noise around a...

We picked this hotel from a list of many given to us from friends who married locally. After speaking to other wedding guests, we definitely got the BEST, okay you pay a little extra, and a little went a long long way. The place was spotless, the staff extremely friendly, the facilities spot on and the location by the lake just perfect.

Room Tip: We had a corner suite, but I would image most of the rooms had a lake view
