“A jewel in the crown”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We recently stayed here for 3 nights, I just wish it had been more, it was like coming home. The moment you stepped into this beautiful hotel you just knew it was going to be first class and it was.we were greeted by Marco the owner, what a lovely man, who took so much pride in his hotel and making sure his guests were looked after, and he didn't stop all day. Our room was lovely and relaxing number 10 with a side lake view which was lovely. Now for the meals, we were half board, we could not fault the food, top quality evening meals, all home cooked, the breakfasts were also great, no powdered juices, just fresh, no tinned fruit, fresh with every type you can think of,, cereals, pastries, ham, cheese, eggs, yogurt, rolls, proper coffee. We will definitely be returning to this gem in malcesine, the cleanliness of this hotel was better than some 5 star hotels I have stayed in !!! Well done marco - your hotel is worthy of a 5 star- see you next year ciao x

Room Tip: Junior suites look great, but any room in this hotel would be great

Recently stayed for ten days at the Vega, I agree with previous reviewers, a little gem and Marco and his staff do all they can to make your stay very relaxed and comfortable. The food as always was excellent with good choices at both breakfast and dinner.

We had a partial lake view, which was very partial and my only slight disappointment was that nothing of the lake could be seen from the bedroom, once outside it was perfect.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a lake view room and be careful when the word partial is mentioned,

My Husband and I stayed at Hotel Vega during the last week of May to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary. We can’t rate it highly enough and reiterate the many complimentary comments made by previous reviewers.

The lovely Marco was so welcoming and friendly from the moment that we stepped through the door. A true gentleman who always seems to have time for each of his guests. He runs his hotel impeccably and it was obvious right from the start that he wanted to make our stay enjoyable. Marco is a proper character with a dry sense of humour and he kept us entertained throughout the holiday. Never a day went by without him or his staff making us smile.

Our room was on the top floor at the front of the hotel overlooking the street with some pretty gardens across the way and a lovely view of the picturesque Monte Baldo. It was perfect for people watching and we just loved the sound of the church bells which chimed regularly and added to the atmosphere of such a charming place. The room was immaculate and airy and Marco fully explained to us about the locking mechanism of the balcony doors and how this affects the air conditioning. There was a safe which was useful and also a hairdryer.

Hotel Vega is in an absolute prime spot in Malcesine. The dining area has a panoramic view across the lake. I should imagine that where ever you are seated you would not be disappointed. The dining room was spotless and the table cloths were crisp white linen which didn’t go unnoticed. The meals were excellent and couldn’t be faulted at all. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and following breakfast Marco would talk us through the evening menu and take our order for that evening. All meals were freshly cooked with plenty of choice and no meal was repeated throughout our stay. We very often sent compliments to the chef. Marco would oversee the dining room to ensure that all was well with his guests. He was extremely attentive as were his two waiters who worked very hard, in particular Super Mario.

There is a sunbathing platform with direct access to the lake (for the very brave) and also a pretty garden with sun loungers & parasols etc to relax in. The spa pool also looked very inviting however we didn’t get chance to try this out so maybe next time because there definitely will be a next time!

Malcesine itself was just beautiful with its narrow cobbled streets (flat shoes are a must) and little shops and bars. There was lots to explore. Everywhere was so clean and it also felt very safe. Just a few minutes walk from Hotel Vega and we were by the
Harbour. There were boats to take you across to the other towns and we took a trip across to Limone which was well worth a visit (9 euro return).

A trip up Monte Baldo on the cable car is an absolute must. It is wise to take a fleece and sensible shoes. The views from up there were breathtaking and it was very strange standing in the snow in sandals with the sun shining! It was also fascinating to watch the paragliders prepare and ‘take off’ for their descent over the lake.

We also did the Thomson Venice by Night excursion which, as we were celebrating a special anniversary it just had to be done. It was a long tiring day but well worth it to soak up the sights.

As we were half board and missed the evening meal on that particular day, we requested from Marco if he could possibly make us up a packed lunch to take with us and he kindly obliged.

Another trip that we felt was well worth doing was to Bolzano and Renon in the South Tyrol. This region had a very ‘Austrian’ feel to it. There was an optional visit to see “Otzi the Iceman’ which we found fascinating. The trip also included a cable car ride and a trip on a train/tram that took us up to Renon where we managed to see sight of The Dolomites - an amazing day. The apple strudle was yummy.

All in all we enjoyed an absolutely fantastic holiday to celebrate our Silver Wedding. Malcesine is beautiful and the overall experience of staying in Hotel Vega just made it so much more special for us. It is understandable why guests return again and again. So thank you Marco, Natalie and Super Mario for making our stay so memorable - we will be back..........:))

Cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. Its personal service from Marco and staff, the beautiful
views and superb location.
The rooms were spotlessly clean, very comfortable and quiet. On a hot day it was a delight to
relax in the lovely garden whilst watching the boats on the lake.
What a chef ! The food was unbelievable, well presented and always cheerfully served by the two friendly and attentive waiters. Nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you Marco and all your staff for a most memorable and wonderful holiday.

This was our 6th visit to the Hotel Vega, after trying two other hotels in Malcesine in past years we found this gem which ticks all the boxes so would not go anywhere else.
This was a mini break for us, three nights between other summer holidays but lovely to revisit a favourite hotel for some rest and relaxation. And that is exactly what you get at the Vega - its tranquil. The garden right on the water is heavenly, spent a few hours there and had it to ourselves most of that time. As the temperature was in the 90s the whole four days its a great place to find some shade.

We had a side lake room which had lovely views of both the lake and the mountains. Having tried most of the different rooms we like the side ones as they are cooler, the front full lake view rooms are spectacular but very hot in full sun.

The room itself was very clean and had everything - except a mini fridge which would be most welcome for cold water ! Some rooms do have fridges as we know so I wish they all did, there's certainly room for one. Please Marco !

The whole hotel is kept spotless. The staff are brilliant, all of them from Natalie on reception to the dining room waiters and room maids. Marco should be very proud of his team.

We were half board. The dining room is beautiful and sitting over a long leisurely dinner is a big highlight of the stay. There is plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. The wine list is excellent and Marco will recommend and tell you all about the local wines.

The situation of the hotel cannot be beaten, a few minutes stroll to the ferry harbour and the steep cobbled streets or the long (flat) lake walk. So much to do close by, Monte Baldo, the castle, ferry to Limone, Riva or Torbole. Can also go south of the lake but not so picturesque there. Would recommend the walk from Torbole to Riva along the lake, quite beautiful about an hour's slow stroll.

Marco is incredibly hard working, professional and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble just ask.

Highly recommend this little hotel. Look forward to visiting again.

Room Tip: Side rooms have great views and are cooler.

The Hotel was fabulous, very clean and all staff were very friendly and helpful.
Marco the owner was fantastic he was a right character nothing was too much trouble everything was possible.
The two waiters were brilliant wannabe comedians very efficient and helpful.
The room was fantastic and large with a large bathroom. It was on the 3rd floor with a balcony which had views of the lake as far as the eye could see.
The restaurant was very light and clean right on the lakeside. The food was excellent especially the fish dishes, the breakfast selection was very large and you given a choose of scrambled eggs or boiled eggs as well.
On the whole this hotel is in the 5 star bracket easily.

Room Tip: Choose a top floor room with a balcony for the views and privacy.
