First the good news: The hotel is located a little up hill but the location is good. The view from the balcony was amazing. The breakfast was really good, considering that this was a European hotel. Hotels bacon seemed to be like parma ham, but hot (tasty), buns were still hot and you could have a nice class of sparkling wine every morning if you liked. Pool area was basic but clean and hotel staff was friendly.

Then the bad news: The room was clean, but small, walls were quite thin and the room didn't have air-conditioning. We were there during the hottest time. At first we didn't know how to control the temperature by adjusting curtains and it was hot, but once we got hang of it and left the balcony doors open all night long, the temperature was ok. One really annoying thing was the local church and it's bells. During the week, the bells rang only every morning 8 am. But between saturday and sunday night the bells rang every hour and every half an hour. It was terrible. We don't know if it was for some special reason or every weekend. On the other hand I bet you can't miss those bells anywhere in the center of Malcesine. Some additional noise came from the unloading of the delivery trucks for food store near by.

Room Tip: Choose the cheaper mountain side room for less noise.

pros:
+GORGEOUS view from both sides of the hotel, one facing the lake and the other facing the mountains. We had the mountain view and *loved* it.
+nice staff, they always greeted in the morning and whenever they saw you
+breakfast was good, pretty basic stuff like bread, fruits, yogurt, cornflakes, bacon, eggs..etc.
+location was great, 50m to the bus stop, 50m to the supermarket, 400m to the lake
+rooms were okay, could've been a bit bigger though..but no one seemed to be complaining
+rooms were cleaned every morning, bed sheets changes twice a week

cons:
-you could hear pretty much everything people were talking in their rooms so you really wanna keep it quiet
-yeah, the rooms could've been a bit bigger, especially the bathroom..
-furniture were pretty outdated but not dirty

Nothing else to say, really. Everyone seemed to enjoy their stay there, so, I can definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Just remember to keep it quiet in your room..

Where to start:

Their internet site is flattering

The pool dosn't see sunshine until 2pm due to the height of the trees so we might as well have sat in the room!

The rooms were last decorated sometime prior to 1975 - chic it ain't shabby it is!!

Although the rooms are clean they're roasting hot due to the lack of air conditioning

The hill outside is steep & wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a pram or wheelchair but everyone else should be able to make it - you'll just wish you couldn't!!

It was not what was expected & we went as far as to check we were at the right hotel & then that they'd got the room rate right. Some of our friends stayed a litte further out of town but due to wanting to avoid long walks we stayed here. We'd have walked from Verona if only we'd known!!

We moved out after 2 days to the hotel our friends stayed in Hotel Benacus that was 40 euros cheaper per night & had air conditioning. Although Hotel Benacus is a 20 minute walk into town it was quite a pleasant next to the lake past a few bars which provided a nice place to relax.

If you are considering staying here please think again & save a few euros, Malcesine is a fantastic place & there are plenty of charming little hotels - don't let this Hotel Diana ruin your stay!!

The reason we stayed at this hotel was because we were in Malcesine for a friends wedding. A few of our other friends wanted to stay here because it had a pool. In my opinion when there is a beautiful lake why the need for a pool? Anyway we conceeded on our other choice of hotel and reasoned that if it was not by the lake it would compensate in other areas. We were wrong. The slight incline descrided in other reviews from the bus station is a slight understatement, with cases on arrival and at the end of the day or evening its a definate put off. We stayed out all day because the thought of trudging up the hill was putting us off popping back. The reception service was ok bordering on chilly at times. There was a decent breakfast every morning and unusually for a european hotel there were eggs and bacon if you wanted along with the usual cereal, meat and cheese. Also for tea addicts, they had proper milk not UHT,k this is where the positives end. The rooms were dated in decor and worn, the doors have no key card and do not lock behind you, with just a normal handle and key lock we found that anyone could open the door and come in...and they did. The balcony is a plus, the lack of air conditioning made it essential. Luckily it was not too hot when we went otherwise it would have been terrible. The walls were paper thin, I actually managed to have a conversation with someone in the next room through the walls! You can hear everything, unfortunately that includes bathroom noises. This for me was the worst aspect. The bells were very annoying, they are so loud that you may as well be in the bell tower. There are so many nice hotels in this area, we have been to a few now since our trip to the Diana. Disappointing on many levels.

We arrived Malcesine late afternoon, and didnt want to use too much time try to find a place to stay. The Tourist Information gives good help finding a hotel, and you dont have to run around in the heat yourself.

Hotel Diana was a great place to stay for a couple of nights. Great lake view, quite large and clean rooms. The slowest elevator in Europe...its terrible in the heat. Very helpful staff, who serves a nice breakfast in the garden. The swimmingpool is not large, but ok.

Good hotel with excellent view, nice receptionist (danish, english, german speaking). Superb breakfast in the fresh air, big deep clean swimming pool.
The hotel is close to the bus station, cable car, historical centre, 5 minutes walk to the beach.
Food? Ask for Mario's pizza or Corsaro restaurant and Porto vecchio in the old harbour.
Malcesine is fabulous!!

My husband and I traveled to Malcesine for a friend's wedding, where we stayed for 2 nights. The wedding was our sole reason for coming to Malcesine, so we we were simply looking for a comfortable and convenient hotel to sleep in, and were not expecting loads of amenities.

To start with the positive aspects, this hotel was very helpful with booking our airport transfers. We were able to do this easily and cheaply (20E per person round-trip) by email. While we could not book the hotel online, the staff was efficient and pleasant, and it was easy to book over the phone, with an immediate confirmation by email. The hotel is located only a 2 minute walk from the central bus station and tourist information center, meaning that it is very convenient to the center of town. Furthermore, the hotel's location up a small incline allows lake/mountain/castle views from the bedroom windows. Breakfast is included, and can be eaten in the shady garden. The garden is lovely and the breakfast is nice, if not spectacular. Finally the staff was friendly, offered us a map of the city on arrival, and helped us to get our bearings

However, while the hotel met or exceeded our expectations in terms of location and convenience, the rooms were virtually uninhabitable in the 95 degree+ (37 C) weather. We are used to hotels not having air-conditioning, and could have tolerated this for 2 nights if there had been at least a portable fan or 2 to help with air circulation. As it was, we kept the windows open all day and night, and resorted to pouring water on ourselves throughout the night in a fruitless effort to cool down. Moreover, as another reviewer mentioned, church bells started ringing early in the morning meaning that when we did actually manage to get to sleep, we were woken by the bells.

While the rooms were adequate-clean and comfortable, I would not stay in this hotel again in the summer unless air-conditioning units were added to the rooms.
