La Cioca Apartments
Reviewed 27 October 2013

When I contacted La Cioca they advised they were full, but had availability in their other apartments 'Le Palme' just down the road.

I had to 'check-in' at the La Cioca still, but was then shown down to where I was staying by the friendly staff. He showed me the off road parking and garage, and also the free mountain bikes if I wanted to go out for a ride.

The room was spacious, and fairly basic but was very comfortable and suited my needs. The kitchenette looked to be fully equipped but I didn't use it. The room was clean and the balcony had a great view over the lake.

The apartment was perfectly situated and just a short 2-3 minute stroll into the centre of town.

Reviewed 21 October 2013

We rented 2 apartments in Casa Cressotti (another building of the same owners of La Cioca) for 4 nights in early October 2013.

Unfortunately, we had problems with the hot water in the showers during our entire stay. Although we stayed in two separate apartments (2 persons in each), every evening the hot water would run out after about 10 minutes of running water in the two apartments combined, after which the water would turn freezing cold (so that hardly two of the four of us could take a shower each day). This would happen whether we tried to take a shower around 20:00 or around 23:00. We complained about this 3 times during our stay. First they said they would look into it, then they said that they had just switched from the "summer water heating system" to the "winter water heating system", then they said we should wait 10 minutes and try again. We tried after 10 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours and at 07:30 in the next morning to no avail. The hot water only returned at 08:30 the next morning. They still didn't quite know what to tell us when we complained again as we checked out.

As far as we are concerned, even if everything else was perfect, this problem alone would be enough to warrant this low rating (we find hot showers quite fundamental when it comes to accommodation). If it hadn't been for this problem, we would have probably given these apartments 4 stars out of 5.

As to other matters:
Each apartment had two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. They were both very clean, modern and rather large and spacious. We found the mattresses and the pillows to be way too hard, but I guess this is a matter of taste. There is a good air conditioner in each apartment. The kitchen is equipped with all of the cookware and dishes you may need, but remember to bring your own basic food items (salt, sugar, oil...) as nothing is provided. The bathroom featured a sit-down bath we didn't quite like - we didn't want to sit in it, but the deeper part is too small to comfortably stand in, and the upper part is too scary to stand on. Water pressure was fine. Towels and bed linens were provided (but shampoo & soap were not). Faucets were a bit (physically) hard to operate. Wireless internet connection was functional.

The location within the historical center of Malcesine is perfect - within a short walking distance to everything a tourist may look for in Malcesine. We also found Malcesine itself to be the ideal town to stay in around Lake Garda: it has an abundance of restaurants, bars, gelaterias, shops, supermarkets and interesting attractions within walking distance, and most importantly it doesn't seem to go to sleep as early as other towns we visited in the area. It is worth mentioning that Casa Cressotti is situated in a pedestrian zone, so you have to park your car in their garage at La Cioca which is 500 meters away from the building (and not 150m as advertised). They do offer to deliver your luggage from the garage to the apartments on your arrival (and back on departure). It wasn't a problem for us, but it might be if you have mobility problems.

Booking was easy and was done via email. No deposit was required (payment by cash only, on departure). They were quite flexible with check-in times.

Room Tip: First floor (apt. 2) - bigger, large balcony, no lake view. Second floor (apt. 4) - a bit smaller...

Hope to return. Travelled from Munich by car and underground safe parking available. Stayed at la cioca apts, although lake view marginal, proximity to lake made it a one minute walk to lakeside and also a short walk to all amenities, just far enough away not to be disturbed, and not too far to nip into the town. good setup, apartment, outdoor table/chairs and loungers all on one level with pool. Well kept and clean. Interior decor from the past, but good quality useful things all present. I'd stay here again!

We actually stayed in the Casa Cresotti apartments that the owners have in the4 very centre of town, but used the pool and facilities just about everyday. The owners could not do enough to help us - our wedding cases went missing and they phoned the airport to help us trace them!! The La Cioca apartments are really well situated and we would have stayed in them, but we needed to be nearer the castle as my daughter was getting married there. Our apartment Casa Cressoti was perfect for us - right in the heart of the town. We rented 3 apartments as it was great for the main wedding party to be together. When we return to Malcesine, I will be using these apartment

We stayed at La Cioca 2 for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment is one of three or four in a building located just a short walk from the centre of Malcesine on a quiet road. If you can get an upstairs apartment then you will have a view of the lake and the mountains beyond. The apartment comprised a kitchen, bathroom and living/sleeping area with a balcony. It was clean and comfortable.
Malcesine town is a wonderful place to visit on the shores of Lake Garda. It has narrow, maze like streets for walking, boat trips on the lake, a castle, Monte Baldo cable car to name but a few of its attractons.

I stayed last summer in Malcesine and had a fantasic time. It is a truly beautiful place. The apartment is centrally located, just out of the hustle and bustle of the centre - which was good. The swimming pool, although not what you'd call big, was very pleasent, as was the whole sunbathing area overlooking the lake. The apartment itself was well kept and very comfortable - in an old-fashioned sort of way. We loved it and will be returning. Great place!

We were recommended these aprtments & weren't disappointed.

Certainly not luxurious but comfortable and well looked after, with sufficent kitchen facilities to allow for eating in.

Terrace/pool area very clean & well tended.
The pool was small and very cold- but adequate for the brave!

Best of all was the location, a short stroll from the harbour/restaurant area.

Malcesine was lovely with beautiful scenery, charming winding cobbled alleys to meander and lots to see & do.

Would highly recommend resort & accomodation.
