We were visiting the statue overlooking Maratea - fantastic views, well worth the chicanes! We met the daughter of the house there and she, naturally, recommended her family run business as a good place for lunch. We were a little late and it was quiet BUT well worth the short detour. We accepted the recommendations given and weren't disappointed. Great antipasti, lovely pasta and the vino rosso de la casa was lovely. All local produce, and so much care. Thanks again for a lovely lunch

This is a true country trattoria but only an 8 or 10 minute drive outside of Maratea and nestled in a tiny borgo of houses with no other businesses around. Once out of the car, you are greeted by the chickens clucking, a few dogs barking and finally Antonio who will treat you like an old friend.

This "slowfood" style restaurant has a rather extensive menu for such a place but I would pay very little attention to it. Just listen to Antonio as he explains the special dishes his mother has prepared for the night and trust him. They've been doing this in the village for 30 years and it's all local and home-made--even the sausage, cured meat and liquors. What appears as simple food is actually quite sophisticated--these people got it goin' on.

We had platters of mixed meats and cheeses, pasta with funghi porcini and a flourless type chocolate-almond torte as good as I've had anywhere. A real joy was the house red which has to be the best vino della casa ever in Italian travel. Though we never do this, we accepted the offer of their fennel and their wild berry liquors which turned out to be divine. Thank you Antonio and family...highly recommended.

How to make the middle of nowhere feel special... By serving fresh, home-cooked food in a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Owner Antonio welcomes you to his restaurant as if to his home, sharing stories of his time abroad and his love for his home in Basilicata. The food, from antipasti including home-made cheese and marmelade of myrtle and peppers as well as nduja, ham and lardo, to succulent lamb from the oven accompanied by tasty 'ciambotta' vegetables, was great and all freshly made. We very much enjoyed our evening here.

Our host was most helpful, charming and quie personable. The wine was very good and the food was as well. Our host and his sister (marketing and public relations respectively) returned to the table several times to ensure our food and wine was all in order. We started with menus and then somehow ended up with the un priced 'fresh sheet' which was excellent. We found our meal a little pricey in the end but still reasonable value.

The owner of this restaurant couldn't have been more helpful : he drove down and collected us from the hotel, which was in the next village! Everything was grown locally, from the pigs, chickens, eggs and goats, to the cheeses, herbs, wines and liqueurs. The restaurant is like an extension of his house, and his family were there in the kitchen. Amazing food, amazing location : highly recommend!
