This is a pleasant small hotel overlooking Centro Storico - the old town of Maratea at the top of the hill. It felt rather cramped, but we did enjoy the two nights we stayed there. The pool area is small but the views are breath taking with fluffy clouds floating on top of the peaks behind the hotel. They have a car park, towels for the pool (provided free of charge) and a relatively good breakfast, cooked eggs on request. Service was friendly and courteous. It was rather expensive at £650 for two nights in a "suite". I was rather underwhelmed by the room - it certainly isn't a suite, just an average size hotel room with a separate windowless entrance room that was big enough to hold a sofa bed. A suite should have a separate sitting room so beware of the misnomer for room 9. The bathroom had a spa bath and rocky outcrop walls. Some of the decor is quite bizarre - arty maybe, slightly tasteless on occasions. This hotel tries hard and is a sweet little place, but hardly exclusive resort the guidebooks would have you believe. Maratea itself is quiet with tacky tourist shops, views are great though. The port area is good for people watching and looking at the yachts coming and going, but only a couple of hours visit is enough.

Room Tip: Check exactly what you are getting when you book a suite - may not have a separate sitting room.

We stayed in this hotel for one night and from start to finish all was amazing.
The hotel is an old monastery built overlooking the town of Maratea so it offers great views from rooms that we imagined had to be the rooms where monks stayed...but brought to 4 star modern standards!
The pool is nice and pleasant to relax after a day or walking around.
The restaurant was great we had a very nice meal and as we had decided to share the antipasti and the pasta the chef gave us each a plate with half portions which we thought was really nice. Wine from the local region was very strong.
Breakfast was one of the best in Italy with a wide selection.
We thought that the people running the hotel where very nice and looked after us well from greeting us with a drink on arrival to showing us the route to our next destination the next day.

I can't say enough about this hotel and would stay here again in an instant. Upon arrival, the very friendly staff greeted us with a non-alcoholic aperitif…cool and refreshing after a long drive. The road leading up to the hotel is a tight fit and I overshot the place initially. Unable to turn around, I left the car a good ways up the hill. The staff understood my dilemma and dispatched one of the bellhops to park my car in the hotel's private parking lot. The manager gave us a personal tour of the facility to include the history of the structure, meal times, pool hours, etc. There was even a personalized letter in the room inviting us to a have a wonderful stay. Wi-Fi worked well in the room. It worked out rather conveniently that the restaurant in the hotel is top rated by TripAdvisor. The rating is well deserved…from the service to the food as well as the ambiance. The hotel has a nice, little pool along with beach chairs to layout and soak up the sun.
One of the nicest amenities the hotel offers aside from free breakfast is a card good for a free spot at La Secca beach which included one umbrella and two beach chairs….an absolutely amazing spot to relax, swim, snorkel, eat, read and recover. This was approximately a 25 euro per person savings. This hotel has an inviting and relaxing atmosphere and has been beautifully renovated from the 18th century convent it once was. The rooms were of sufficient size and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning worked well.

I felt that this hotel was rather over-rated. The standard room was tiny, though it had a good view. Toiletries were basic. The pool area is small and the pool an odd shape. The gardens were lovely.
Our biggest gripe was the eving meal in the restaurant. Very pretentious service- the waiter ceremonially served each of us 1 breadstick - with tongs! I can unfold my own napkin, thank you. My rabbit-stuffed ravioli contained a rabbit bone large enough to choke on, while my husband's main dish, a millefeuille of turbot, had small slivers of turbot between layers of completely uncooked potato, completely raw and crunchy. When he complained, the waitress said it was a local speciality- as if any Italian- or anyone else- would eat raw potato.
The hotel is an interesting building, with a lot of different levels, but the decor for me was marred by some rather bizarre and tacky ornaments, and a series of worrying large photographs of young men with decidedly homoerotic overtones. I didn't object personally, but it was odd.
They did reduce the restaurant bill, but the whole deal was expensive for what was on offer. Maratea is pretty, but rather touristy, full of shops selling tourist tat and gaudy ceramics.

Room Tip: The standard room is very small; the balcony only has room for 1 chair! Nice view over Maratea thoug...

Paradise. This is a beautiful family run hotel in a unique location with the friendliest and most competent staff I have had the pleasure of encountering. The swimming pool has the most stunning views - medieval Maratea below, mountains and the statue of Jesus with arms outstretched above. Service is excellent, food is delicious with an array of very good wines to accompany any selection from the menu. We wanted a quiet, chilled week and the Locanda is perfect for that. Don't go if you are seeking the wild night life, in fact don't go to Maratea if that is your bag as this is a place for lazy strolling in the piazza - although you can watch any number of musical events in the main square which are free and a great reminder of the central role of the family in Italy, with audiences composed of young and old alike singing along. If you want to go the beach there is a free service provided by the hotel which gives you 2 chairs and an umbrella in a perfect little secluded beach area. I would recommend La Locanda to anyone seeking a chilled, peaceful time. You can explore the coastline as well as the mountains above which are dramatic with lovely old towns and villages. Enjoy!.

Room Tip: Rooms are on the small side - when booking just check with the hotel what size/upgrade they can offe...

We were booked in for 4 nights. We checked out after two. The hotel was very cute and beautifully decorated, but it was small and we felt cramped. We paid a bit extra for the superior room, but it was still tiny. We had a tiny balcony, not big enough to sit out with a drink. The bathroom was tired and basic. The toiletries were poor for a boutique hotel. The tv didn't work either.
The views are stunning and the pool is in a super spot. This area too is smaller than you think. The beach is a 20 min mini bus ride away and once you are there, you don't get collected until 5 pm. It's gorgeous, but there is just one small beach shack serving very basic foods. More than one day on this beach would have bored me.
The village the hotel is in is very remote and there were a few shops and places to eat. Easily done in one evening. It would be perfect if you truly wanted to do nothing. We wanted a relaxing holiday but ended up moving on to prevent boredom. We were also charged for 3 nights when we checked out after 2.

Welcoming, characterful and luxurious. We enjoyed our stay immensely! It's a beautiful building which retains real original charm, and yet manages to feel sophisticated and current. The setting is really special - the views from the pool are gorgeous, and there are so many beautiful little corners in the building and gardens where you can relax with a drink. But above all it's the staff that are superb. We've never stayed anywhere where we were better looked after - everyone was genuinely charming and we were really impressed. We liked it so much we stayed am extra night!
