“Don't stay here!”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

What a terrible, terrible hotel. After my first night staying on the 5th floor in an unrenovated room - no working shower and everything was dirty; I was then moved to the ground floor to a DISABLED room! At least the disabled room was new and clean... They make you pay for the wifi, which then doesn't work anyhow. The train station is only a 5 min walk away, but at night it doesn't feel safe to walk home from there. The night staff have no idea what's going on and weren't able to help me in any way, so I had to keep waiting for the daytime staff. The breakfast is cereal, bread, bad coffee and juice and yoghurt. Terrible hotel stay.

Room Tip: If they offer you a 5th floor room - refuse it immediately.

The hotel was clean and presentable however this varies from room to room not all have been updated so be aware each floor and section of rooms differ. The wifi here is ridiculous it works now and then. Upstairs room get wifi more than downstairs who must sit in the lobby to get wifi. And the price of wifi is very high. I wouldn't stay there again. Although you can get the train into Venice I only suggest tour groups not singles or families to stay there. I was on a tour so it was acceptable.

The beds were fine, and the place was clean. The wifi was expensive and also really unreliable. Breakfast was very average. More tellingly, the staff weren't helpful, with quite poor attitudes. We also had to pay to leave our bags there after checkout, before we left, and these were then put behind a curtain in the open lobby. I'd expect more security for a service I'm paying for. It was fine, but it's not a place I'd visit again.

We stayed as part of our tour. The hotel is not in Venice, but not far away. It is on a street with buses regularly passing by. Despite it being summer the air-cons were not operable so we had to open the windows making it rather noisy from a street facing room. The property could improve on their management. Check-in was slow. Wifi is charged. The staircase was covered in thick dust and debris which a tour mate reported but it was never cleaned over our two day stay. Rooms were quite clean and pleasant tho with their mauve colour theme and Venetian prints. Beds are firm. Shower cubicles vary in size - our kids' room's was just acceptable, but ours was so tiny we could not bend down in it (don't drop the soap!). Towels are good and changed reliably. Breakfast was just ok - one croissant placed on your plate, then simple bread, cereals and spreads/cheeses. A not very effective hot beverage station. Many of our tour mates found it hard to find dinner nearby. We found a couple of great restaurants in Mestre which is around 10 mins walk away. Turn right out of the hotel and brave the long train station underpass. Try Moro for great pasta. There is a bus right outside the hotel to get you into Venice in 10 mins. Coming back is a bit trickier due to the one way streets. Press the bell when the bus leaves the freeway and look for the central water fountain as a landmark. You can get return bus tickets from the small newsagency - turn left from outside the hotel. Quite a long walk passed the newsagency is a large supermarket. This is an ok option if this is your budget range. Venice is great!

We stayed in Hotel Mondial, Marghera Venice for 4 nights early in June.
Getting there: From the Airport we took the bus tickets from the very helpful ticket helpdesks, they speak good English and guide you well. Since we had no clue which stop would be for our hotel, before boarding the bus we showed the hotel address to the bus driver and he told us where to get down. Make sure you know where to get down or carry a map beforehand.

Stay: The room size appeared smaller than what we gathered from the image on Booking.com, but it was manageable. After keeping our luggage there was just enough space to stretch :) We took the breakfast inclusive deal, but were bored by the end of second day, no variety in breakfast, it's the same every day. The booking mentioned "Wi-Fi is available in all areas and charges are applicable." of this only the second part is true, charges do apply, they have packages like 7 Euros for 10 hrs, but Wi-Fi is only available in hotel lobby. They asked us to get our laptop and work in the lobby area to access the internet, which was a bummer and very irritating.
Then one night there was some problem with the internet and they had no clue when will that be fixed. Wi-Fi was important for us as my husband had to handle few work related mails usually at the beginning or end of days. From a hotel, I was expecting better infrastructure.
Elaina on the front desk was extremely helpful and very pleasant, rest of the hotel staff was average, at some points not even that pleasant.

Connectivity to Venice: One great point was ease of transport connections, we relied only on local transport and the bus stop was in the same lane as the hotel. Just a few blocks from the hotel (Near the fountain @roundabout) is a Tabacchi shop, we got our passes from there. Right next to the hotel was the bus stop from where you can board bus number 5 or ‘5/’ that takes you straight to Piazza Le Roma (plenty of connections to go anywhere in Venice from there!). While coming back the bus will drop you off at via Giovanni Durando (3rd or 4th stop from P.L.E Roma). From there you walk straight and turn right to be on the same road as the hotel, hardly 5 mins walk. The buses run till quite late so there was absolutely no problem in coming back even during late hours. Last day we had to board a train to Florence and the train station is just 300 meters across the road, so getting there was a breeze, even with luggage.

All in all average stay, highlight being it’s connectivity to Venice and train station.

We stayed at this hotel because it is where our tour was departing from. We were initially upset because we were under the impression the hotel was located in Venice however, it is in a suburb just on the edge of Venice. We quickly realized how close we were to the train station (across the street) and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel with an express bus that goes straight to Venice. Therefore, for the price of the hotel, the location really is not that bad! The suburb was very quiet and felt safe! There is a supermarket located near by and there was a street market on the weekends with great deals!
The hotel reception staff were not overly friendly but did give good advice on the bus/train systems and answered our questions when needed. The rooms were rather small, double or twin beds however the rooms were cleaned everyday with new sheets and towels. The shower was overly small and my husband who is 6'3 and 220lbs barley fit!
The wifi is not free and must be used in the hotel lobby.
The breakfast offered at the hotel is a basic Italian breakfast with croissants, cereal and coffee/tea.
Overall I would rate this hotel average and would recommend it to anyone because it is a good price!
