Camping Village Jolly
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We were backpacking in Italy and chose to stay at PLUS Camping Jolly for three nights whilst we visited Venice. We stayed in a 3 person tent, consisting of a bunk bed and a single bed. The walk from Venice Mestre is quite far, but didn't take much more than half an hour (better that than pay for a taxi!)

We stayed in June, but the nights were very cold. It's also worth noting that as we were staying in a tent, we could hear everything outside (perhaps avoid the tent if you're a light sleeper). We were woken up on a couple of mornings by builders laying a concrete base, it was early in the morning (7am-ish). This was unfortunate, but obviously it doesn't happen all year round, so don't let it affect your decision to stay!

We did not pay a lot at all for our stay here, we wanted to pay as little as we could for accommodation. We found this place to be excellent value for money.

As for the facilites, the pool was great and clean (seemed to be open all the time!). The pool side bar and restaurant were good, food and drink was cheap. The reception was always quite busy, especially at check-out times. The campsite did have wifi, but you could only get a signal if you were near the hotspot(s), if not, there were five or six computers in reception that were free to use.

The tents felt safe to leave our backpacks in during the day whilst we visited Venice. We did make use of the lockers in reception (bring your own lock) for 1 euro a day.

Positives:
- Excellent value for money!
- Good, clean facilities
- Restaurant was nice (fairly cheap)

Negatives:
- Tents are not sound-proof at all (not sure what we were expecting though!)

All in all, had a great stay here. Lots of backpackers like ourselves were staying here at the time of our visit.

We stayed here for two nights with a tour in our own tents. The bathrooms were dirty due to people walking around after swimming- so the floor was quite wet and muddy all the time. There was free hot water and wifi so that's good.
It was quite far from the canal city of Venice as most of the affordable places are. The closest bus stop is about 20-25min away. They have a shuttle that doesn't run until late at night and you also had to buy a people-mover ticket on top of the shuttle ticket to get across one of the canals.

There are far worse camping places in Europe. The plus chain has is usually better than others.

We love this camp and go there for the third time. There are only two things: numerous bungalows are very close to the night time disco and the wifi is unfortunately very weak but we will return :) thx

We stayed in July 2014.Most guests at that time were backpackers travelling independently and a significant number of groups, A minority of families. We stayed in the 3 person "chalets" which are Premiere Classe / Ibis budget level, simple room and shower and toilet. Internet varied from ok to very bad in the evenings. The pool was great. The restaurant food was lovely, not too expensive but more expensive than the eateries within walking distance of the campsite.

BEWARE of instructions given by the campsite for bus 6 from Piazzale Roma to and from Venice. There are TWO no 6 bus routes, no6 and no6/. Best to print off a map in advance and use SAN ANTONIO bus stop as both no6 buses pass by there. It has the advantage of the coop supermarket being right near the stop as well as other shops, so you can stock up on the way back to the campsite. Otherwise there is a coop near the waterbus stops at Piazzale Roma open 7 days a week and late too.

Pizza House at the end of via della Fonte on the way to the campsite does excellent and cheaper pizzas, next door Charly bar does cheap but not great food, across the road at the local trattoria you pass on the corner of della Fonte, didn't eat but very popular with locals. The ice cream at end of via Beccharia is heaven, not open long enough hours!

We knew in advance noise could be a problem and indeed one night we were kept up till 1am and camp staff had to intervene, as the Venezualan delegation shamed themselves and were asked to leave the next day. If you choose a chalet, see if you can get one with shade.

Nothing for kids on site other than the pool and a volleyball pitch, a bit disappointing but knew this in advance.

Me and my boyfriend visited Venice in May. We needed a budget place to stay and this place was fantastic! Defiantly worth every penny and more. Fantastic for young travellers and families. The bar and restaurant were amazing and the food was delicious and not to expensive. The little on site shop was so handy for buyng things to make a packed lunch to take into Venice. They provide a shuttle bus into Venice for around 5 euros where as if you just go for a little 15 min walk around a lovely sleepy town you can get a bus with the locals for much cheaper. The last bus is around 23:30. We loved this camp-site and defiantly would go back. We had a moblie home with a double bed and bathroom which was perfect.

We stayed at this campsite in a 3 person tent. It is great for those wanting to visit Venice on a budget as it is out of the centre. The tent has a single bed and bunk beds, and enough room to stand up in with 3 large backpacks on the floor. There are a couple of plug sockets and lights by each bed.
The pool area is great and there is a well stocked supermarket on site that isn't too expensive. There are several showers and toilets and I never had to wait to use them. The campsite isn't too large so nothing is far.
The bar/restaurant turns into a fairly busy 'nightclub' at night and provided a good time out whilst we stayed on site. They have good deals on drinks. The noise also couldn't be heard back at our tent.
The shuttle bus to Venice is about 5 euros return (if i remember correctly) and runs at several times throughout the day. Tickets need to be got in advanced and the bus does sell out. It takes about 30 minutes to get onto the island where you are dropped off. From here it is either a 7 euro boat which takes and hour, or a 2 euro tram and a walk which takes about 1 hour 45, to get into the centre of Venice.
At check out there were long queues so would recommend trying to check out a little earlier than the deadline.
The other downside was the distance from the train station we came into (Mestre) and we couldn't a bus to the site. So the walk was about 30 minutes - map needed.

I stayed here for a few nights and I was lucky I booked early because some other people were paying 25+ euros a night for a tent at a campsite that's not exactly centrally located. It's easy to get to Venice but it's frustrating and a few people I knew caught the wrong bus so it was a bit of a hassle. The pool bar was great and there was always something going at night which was good. The staff were very slow at checking everyone in, some people were waiting for an hour so more staff would probably be helpful.
