“A friendly, charming hotel”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

If you like big, glamourous, multi-national hotels with all the bells and whistles then this probably isn't for you. In this family run hotel the rooms are small and in need of updating, (I had a double for single occupancy and if I had had to share I would most likely be up on a murder charge right now!), bathrooms are teeny, not all rooms have fridges and very few have balconies. However, what you do have are caring, friendly owners who are always around if you need anything. The rooms have efficient air conditioning, TV with lots of channels, wi-fi in the rooms and the place is kept spotlessly clean, as is the pool and garden. There are lots of places to sit around and relax in the grounds and as well as the pool there is a jacuzzi and sauna. The location is good, just a short walk to the local shops, bars, restaurants and beach though I disliked the serried ranks of hundreds of sun-loungers to be found there and the rather dirty shore line. The beach is not a good place to swim due to the shallow water stretching out forever and the water does not seem too clean. It was much more peaceful around the pool! The food at both breakfast and dinner was good, (and I am a veggie). I liked only having 3 choices of starter, three choices of main course and just 2 choices of dessert at dinner. It was lovely to have the food served at the table too...none of that dashing up and down to a buffet. Over a two week stay there was little repetition and the food was fresh, good quality and nicely cooked. Breakfast too was good with, what I thought was, lots of choice. We did the 'organised' tours to Florence, San Gimignano/Sienna and Portofino which seemed rather expensive and were very rushed. It was much more fun, (and really cheap), using the local, and very efficient, local transport to get to Pietrosanta Old Town, Viareggio, Lucca, (all by bus from practically outside the hotel) and Pisa (bus to Viareggio and then train to Pisa central). This is a really charming hotel and I would recommend it to anyone who values individuality, service and friendliness.

Room Tip: Ask for a fridge, (there is one 'mobile' one available on request if your room does not have...

I have just returned from a weeks holiday in this hotel, the holiday was with Travel One. The staff and owners are very friendly and the service is good. Very pleasant to sit out on the veranda enjoying a drink and a chat with fellow guests after the evening meal. The meal is pre-ordered the day before and there are three choices for starters and main course, followed by either a dessert or fruit, there is also a small salad bar. Rooms are kept scrupulously clean, as is the veranda and pool area. My only disappointment was that I did not have a balcony. Sun beds and parasols are also available free of charge on the beach you just have to request a card to take down with you. We had one day of torrential rain but apart from that the weather was warm and sunny. It is easy to get to other towns by public transport and the bus stops are only a few yards from the hotel. I enjoyed my Tuscan holiday very much.

The owners and staff are very friendly. The hotel looks lovely from the outside, well kept plant tubs and pots adding colour and charm to the veranda and gardens around the pool. the swimming pool was clean, and sun beds in good order around the edge, with a hot tub too. Shame that whilst we were there the weather was not hot enough to use it. I managed a dip once - freezing! The rooms were kept clean - fresh towels every day, and there was a fridge! That was so handy. Otherwise the rooms were pretty basic. I slept really cold, until I found a spare blanket in the wardrobe - and doubled it up on the bed - and double up the blanket already there.
The food ranges from good (some excellent fish dishes) to passable;breakfast a bit disappointing, not much choice and no fruit.
There were bikes to be used - just ask for a padlock at reception - but they were not particularly well kept..... most were without bells and a little rusty.... but the brakes were ok!

Room Tip: Some of the rooms had outside balconies and faced the front. But, the views from the back weren'...
