If you like big, glamourous, multi-national hotels with all the bells and whistles then this probably isn't for you. In this family run hotel the rooms are small and in need of updating, (I had a double for single occupancy and if I had had to share I would most likely be up on a murder charge right now!), bathrooms are teeny, not all rooms have fridges and very few have balconies. However, what you do have are caring, friendly owners who are always around if you need anything. The rooms have efficient air conditioning, TV with lots of channels, wi-fi in the rooms and the place is kept spotlessly clean, as is the pool and garden. There are lots of places to sit around and relax in the grounds and as well as the pool there is a jacuzzi and sauna. The location is good, just a short walk to the local shops, bars, restaurants and beach though I disliked the serried ranks of hundreds of sun-loungers to be found there and the rather dirty shore line. The beach is not a good place to swim due to the shallow water stretching out forever and the water does not seem too clean. It was much more peaceful around the pool! The food at both breakfast and dinner was good, (and I am a veggie). I liked only having 3 choices of starter, three choices of main course and just 2 choices of dessert at dinner. It was lovely to have the food served at the table too...none of that dashing up and down to a buffet. Over a two week stay there was little repetition and the food was fresh, good quality and nicely cooked. Breakfast too was good with, what I thought was, lots of choice. We did the 'organised' tours to Florence, San Gimignano/Sienna and Portofino which seemed rather expensive and were very rushed. It was much more fun, (and really cheap), using the local, and very efficient, local transport to get to Pietrosanta Old Town, Viareggio, Lucca, (all by bus from practically outside the hotel) and Pisa (bus to Viareggio and then train to Pisa central). This is a really charming hotel and I would recommend it to anyone who values individuality, service and friendliness.
