“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014

We stayed in this lovely hotel last week had a delightful holiday. Although we know Pietrasanta well having stayed here a number of times in Villas we have never stayed in a hotel before. Initially when we arrived we did wonder if the hotel appeared slightly tired and as there were a lot of children playing wondered if the hotel would be noisy at night. We need not have been concerned. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly and the whole ambience of the hotel intimate and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, abundant and the service excellent. My only disappointment was that our cappuccino was not freshly made and came from a machine. We hired bikes and it's definitely the best was to get around the town, the hotel can easily arrange this for you. There is a lovely pool, beautiful covered sitting area to enjoy a cool drink and an abundance of loungers. We would definitely recommend and return. Thank you for an excellent holiday

We love Hotel Suisse and especially its staff and management. We go back every year for 2 weeks in August on the European (1/2 board plan). We are treated like family, like the other "regulars". The hotel is kept impeccably clean. It is not fancy, but is comfortable and a great value. The food is simple, Italian comfort food.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony and view of the sea.

The hotel is located one street back from the sea front in a quiet residential area.
My wife & I spent a week in this hotel on a half board basis.
The room we had was basic, but fine with a balcony which a two chairs & a table overlooking the pool. The bathroom with fine with a good shower. The lack of power points & the insulation to other rooms was poor.
The food was what you would expect in a 3 star hotel, breakfast was cold meats with different breads & plenty of fresh fruit. Dinner was a cold salad table followed by a choice of 3 starters, main courses & sweets.
we were the only British people in the hotel, but the staff could not have been more helpful & made us feel very welcome.

This hotel is a few hundred metres south of Marina di Pietrasanta. On the road into town are lots of shops, bars, restaurants etc. The little seaside town itself has more of the same. It's all very Italian, there being almost no other nationality there. There's good cycling in the area (almost all flat unless you're active enough to try the nearby mountains). The hotel hires bikes that are OK, and it only costs 5e per session.

The hotel is rather old-fashioned, which brings pluses and minuses. The furniture and décor are dated, the lifts are creaky, the meal times very regimented, the door keys massive. But on the other hand, the place is very well run, the staff are very good, everything is meticulously clean. English is just about spoken at Reception. The Internet access at the hotel was a bit unstable but do-able.

Our room was basically OK with reasonable bathroom and a very good balcony; we overlooked the sea. There's a fridge, safe, lots of hanging space, not many drawers, 2 chairs, desk, TV, no kettle. Only one electric point though, which meant juggling between the fridge and your own device chargers. Hard bed, hard pillows, uncomfortable, I didn't sleep very well because of it. They have big shutters over the windows on a pull strap that clatters; risks waking their neighbours, but I notice most of the other local hotels have a similar arrangement. And (yawn, I get so fed up with writing this about so many hotels), our shower didn't drain properly and in this instance it also brought up dirt into the basin when it finally finished!! I complained and they fixed it that day, but why did I have to?

The breakfasts were very uninspiring. Nothing hot, stale bread (which seems to be the Italian way), packaged jams, insipid cheese and meats, little fresh fruit, bereft of sauces, machine coffee. They play the radio, which gave music, but of course also adverts, news reports and DJ niddle naddle noo.

The beach (about 200m away across a main road) consists of miles of wide, shallow, sand. You can walk forever it seems. Great. However, except for the shore line, it has mostly long since been commandeered by hundreds of private beach clubs. The hotel's advertising talks about a discounted arrangement with one of them. They may have, but it still costs 10e per day per person, you get a sun bed and umbrella, and that's it. If you want to swim in their pool, it costs extra (!). We only went once, much preferring the hotel swimming pool, which is very good, large with lots of sun beds, beautifully clean, changing rooms, adequate sun areas and also shade. They provide towels on the beds.

Overall, despite the faults I've mentioned, this hotel isn't too bad. It's well run, the staff are excellent, there's lots of space, the pool is very good, the rooms are reasonable, the balcony is very welcome, the location is useful.

We arrived with great expectations having booked a superior sea view room and wanting to relax after a week on the road. On checking in we were given the keys to 215, a small dark room at the rear of the hotel. So, back down to reception, 'we booked a sea view I say' 'No, says the clerk, sea view booked up 18 months to 2 years ago', So I dig out my phone and show them the confirmation email, Clerk shrugs, 'No, no rooms, you never booked a sea view' this with their own email in front of him! My wife was gutted. No view, dark dingy room with broken air-con, broken door to the tiny balcony overlooking the pool and a broken pull down blind over the balcony door meaning we couldn't darken the room to sleep. Thankfully the WiFi worked well enabling us to book somewhere else! Security seems lax, we went out and left the car key behind reception as the car park was full and they may have needed to move it. When we came back all the room keys were lined up on the reception desk by the open front door with no-one in attendance, the cynic in me thought me anyone could walk in and take a key! Needing the car key I hung around waiting for a member of staff, after 10 minutes I gave up went behind the desk and got my own car key, I could have chosen a nicer car! Breakfast was basic with awful coffee from a machine. We left the next morning and felt they were glad to see the back of us! The feeling was mutual! Dining locally we mentioned the room fiasco and got a good laugh from some locals, rumour has it only special guests get the decent rooms year after year... hey ho, lesson learned...

Room Tip: Don't!

We stayed here based on the Trip Advisor review, and from the pictures and map it seems it is on the ocean front, but it is one street back from the ocean, although we did have an ocean view from our second floor room, we also had a view of an abandoned once hotel or apartment building and a field of weeds....had I know this I probably would have decided for another property. But I must say the hotel is modern and clean, nice pool at the back, the GM, Mr Papagni was very nice along with his staff, we rented bicycles and did morning bike rides to Forte dei Marmi and neighboring towns....the breakfast buffet was nice, although there were a lot of families with kids (like us) but the buffet was not protected and I did not like that....the dinner was just average at best, we like to eat well especially when in Italy, so I would not recommend the half pension, I would go eat elsewhere, and there are many placed to choose from. We had a parking in the back, which was packed so make sure to get there park your car and do not use it unless you have too. We were recommended a Beach Blub or Bagno Lido (Neptuno Alba was awesome), by the hotel which was walking distance and it was great. The ocean was warm and the small town of Marina di PIetrasanta was beautiful.

Room Tip: This hotel is NOT oceanside, it is on a back street with ocean view so do not be tricked by the phot...
