We were traveling off season so this place was just so peaceful and relaxing. We did not know about it before - would definitely recommend a detour to see this. We then traveled on to Trapani for lunch. Yum

Mozia had once been a thriving civilization until it was decimated 2500 years ago and has not been habited since.
The boat ride is quick and pleasant and both the museum and the grounds are chock full of fascinating antiquities. The walk trough the vineyards to the Tophet was longish but easy for walkers and worth the trek.
There's a small, pleasant café with outdoor seating for refreshments.

Reached after a short boat ride, this seemingly unassuming island is home to a tiny museum in which one can view (when he is not abroad on vacation in some loan exhibition) the spectacular Charioteer, an incredible array of Carthaginian/Punic stelae, and a knock-your-socks off monumental statue group of two felines felling a bull. The island itself is currently under excavation by the University of Rome and the mind boggles at how extensive the remains of the Carthaginian/Punic settlement really are. A torturous walk along the fields of grapes leads to the Tophet, where the inhabitants may (or may not, depending on whom you read) have interred the infants whom they allegedly sacrificed.

Isola di Mozia near Marsala is a very ancient place. in the middle of a hugh natural lagoon. you can take a boat and go around the island. the phinicians had an empire here and this was their last city that surrendered to the Romans. there is an old road 30 cm. deep that goes from the island to the land. it seems that humans have been here for many generations. it is an enchanted view with the salt pools and the old windmills. almost surrealist view. the little restaurant Mama Cuara on the beach gives a daily taste of local food. charming unusual location
