“Fine Stay,Well Out in the Country”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

The views to the sea and across the countryside, from the Baglio Donna Franca, this boutique hotel tucked into the buildings of an old vineyard, are compelling. A warning to those driving: the trade-off is that it is seriously out in the country, 13 km from the town of Marsala and an extreme challenge to locate without either GPS or local help; we drove in very late after our flight to Palermo was delayed, and were lucky to stop on the main highway to ask directions of two local policemen, who took pity on us and actually led us the last 5 km.
The rooms are decent sized and appointed in comfort if not style; cupboards and bathroom storage are simple. Staff were all friendly and helpful -- including a tour of the cellar and generous tasting of the wines made on site.
We were there in the spring -- too chilly either to use the elegant-looking pool, or to dine on the large patio adjoining the restaurant -- but both would be greatly appealing.
The value proposition is excellent -- E 135 per night for two, a quite typical buffet breakfast included.

A little out of the way, outside Marsala, but what a surprise. This property is tastefully appointed, with very clean and comfortable rooms. The grounds, pool, terrace, restaurant and all public rooms are an invitation to relax. The room and bathroom were excellent and waking up to look over the vineyards was definitely a treat. As with ALL Sicilans, the staff is extremely accomodating and helpful and show great pride in what they do. We found this to be true across the board with everyone all over Sicily, so by the time we got to the Donna Franca, were received and treated in the manner in which we had become accustomed. The views of the Egadi islands, the Mediterranean and Erice were truly a joy to behold. This really is a delightful place and it contributed significantly to our enjoyment of our two weeks in Sicily.

Room Tip: Do not know about other rooms, but we had great views of the vineyards and the blue Mediterranean in...

Donna Franca is perfect place to stay if you want a simple relaxing holiday. Pool and buildings are stunnig but simply furnished. Staff fall over themselves to help.
Not sure if it was because it was later in the season but the restaurant (and bar) shut at Siesta time (1-4pm) so if you were wanting lunch or an early sundowner there wasn't anyone about. Didn't bother us, but might be a problem for some.
Rooms are all on the edge of courtyard so face inwards, so don't get much light - helps you sleep well though.
Restaurant service, food and wine were outstanding and at bargain prices for the fresh decilicous local style food you got.

Baglio Donna Franca has lovely position looking out to sea. The pool area is very restful, the pool is a good size, there are plenty of deck chairs and loungers. The restaurant is lovely and so are the staff.
The main disappointment for us was the dampness of the room which was situated on the ground floor in the old building. The bathroom was wet, rather than damp. After five days, all of our clothes were damp and actually smelt damp, despite being in the wardrobe. When I mentioned this to staff, the explanation was something to do with the heating in the winter: condensation. So although the stay was lovely overall, the dampness and wetness in the room (in hot week in August) was not good.

Room Tip: It is the upstairs rooms which have a view of the sea in the distance. The ground floor room had a...

We spent a couple of days of sheer relaxation at Donna Franca. Rooms were very comfortable , views all around and surrounded by vineyards. And views of the Edagi IslndsVery peaceful . A good base to see Marsala, Trapani, Erice, San Vito Lo Capo, Scopello and Castellamare Sul Golfo. We also took a hydrofoil to the island of Favignana from Marsala. The staff were very helpful. Dinner at Donna Franca was always an experience, always vey good. The red wine they produce is very good too. The pool area is quiet and relaxing. The only thing that I would say bothered me a bit was the Internet service. It was very poor. You can only manage to get through in the courtyard, and every time you have to insert a password. No Internet service in rooms or anywhere else .

Room Tip: We booked a standard room which was upstairs. It was very comfortable and with views.

Amazing stay in a traditional Sicilian lodging "baglio"! We went there for our friend's wedding and decided to stay another 3 days. We rented a car at the Florio airport in Trapani, which is only a 20-minute drive from Donna Franca!!! Use GPS (indications are available on the road for Donna Franca as well) because there are so many little roads that you might get lost :) But it is worth the ride! Once you arrive, the view is amazing, overlooking the sea and the Egadi islands. The sunset from the beautiful pool is just fantastic! You can even order in the afternoon a glass of wine and some snacks by the pool and enjoy the evening!
The hotel's restaurant is very good, worth to have dinner there! Wines are good and local from their own vineyards that are surrounding the hotel! This is the perfect location if you want to travel around the Mazara del Vallo/Marsala/Trapani/Egadi/Erice/San Vito area, and in the evening come back to this amazing location and enjoy the sunset, the pool... Rooms are good and clean, wi fi available at no additional cost. Overall, a very good stay, would definitely recommend it!

For anyone flying into Trapani and wanting a great start to your holiday this is the place. I can't believe there was such a great place only 20 minutes from a budget airport. We loved the style, food and ambience. Pool is really great. Watching the sunset from the pool while drinking lovely white wine from the estate... This was our kind of place. Rooms also of very high class. Could be 5 star actually. Staff friendly. Just go!

Room Tip: We had a triple room with a proper bed for our son. It was on the bottom floor and had a beautiful b...
