“Gorgeous views, great hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2012

This property has stayed in Aldo's family since the 1300s and they have lived here continuously since they built the tower in the 1500s. The grounds are covered in lemon groves and olive trees. We stayed in Foresteria (Italian for "Guest House"). We had our own garden area with amazing views. We had dinner by Matilda on our last night and it was fantastic. The sunset was breathtaking and the food was homemade and special.

Our breakfasts were feasts, with our favorite - yogurt with honey and walnuts. I still eat that every day to remind me of our trip.

The room wasn't air conditioned, which is only hard during heat streaks.

Thanks Aldo and Matilda, we had a great trip!

We stayed for 4 nights end of July in Torre Cangiani after we had stayed for a week in the center of Sorrento.
Torre Cangiani is located in the more quiet Massa Lubrense at about 5 km from Sorrento city center.
You can easily reach Sorrento city or surrounding beaches without using a car but by using the public transport which is rather cheap (there is a bus to Sorrento or Massa Lubrense every 20 minutes at the foot of the domain of Torre Cangiani , price of 2.4 euro per person to and back from Sorrento). Or you can ask Aldo (the owner of Torre Cangiani) to drive you to the city center (10 euro). There is also a local beach nearby (20 minutes on foot). Taxis are rather expensive.
You should choose Torre Cangiani when you prefer a more quiet holiday period, you want to explore also the rest of the Sorrento peninsula or you can also foresee a combination of this with the classic visits of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri, a boat or bus trip to Amalfi or a trip to Naples.
The main arguments to choose Torre Cangiani are nevertheless the splendid views from the domain with in the back ground Capri, Ischia, Procida, the bay of Naples and the Vesuvius and, even more, the warm personalities of the owners of Torre Cangiani, Aldo and Mathilde. They try to make your stay as pleasant as possible and are both very enjoyable persons. Mathilde’s evening cooking is also very recommendable and is based on own made products . On days she doesn’t cook you can enjoy your dinner or in Sorrento or in the restaurant on the other side of the street at the entrance of the domain.
Torre Cangiani, a place to cherish.

This is a gorgeous place to stay. The beautiful old tower and lodgings are on top on a hill overlooking the isle of Capri, Naples and it feels like the entire world is at your feet. The balcony where we had breakfast had a sweeping view of the entire region. We found it very good value and would stay again.

My husband and 14 month old baby stayed at the Cottage at Torre Cangiani for 5 nights in mid September. Aldo and Matilda are lovely hosts and genuine people. They offered great advice and accommodated our baby by going to the grocery store in advance to get him milk, etc. They had a high chair and portable crib with a mattress, which was very clean. When my husband asked for beer, Aldo went to the town and got it for him. We thought we had car issues and Aldo took us to the nearby mechanic and translated for us. The cottage room is lovely and in a private setting with spectacular views of the islands and Mt Vesuvius. The room was very clean and spacious. Lots of closets and drawers and even a small flat screen TV. Internet access is free in the common living room. Breakfast on the terrace was beautiful. We had dinner one night there and the food was fantastic and fresh. When we left Aldo and Matilda gave us a bottle of their farm produced olive oil for free. That was a very nice touch. We also liked the remoteness of the farm close to Sorrento but away from the traffic and hordes of tourists. Great base to explore all the surrounding towns, Capri, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, etc. as the farm is very conveniently located. Restaurants in the area were also very good. The only negative is that the room gets a little hot at night because the window is not screened in and therefore I didn't want to open the windows. A ceiling fan and a screened in window would make the room perfect.

We stayed at Torre Cangiani for 3 nights. Our hosts Aldo and Mathilde were so helpful. We traveled with daughter and her husband and their 14 month old daughter. The setting is magnificent. The rooms are beautifully decorated. There is a computer available to check email, etc. They will provide dinner on request. We did this one evening and it was superb. The views from our room of the Bay of Naples and the island of Capri were breathtaking. Aldo drove us to Sorrento and we took the train to Pompei and then took took the bus back from Sorrento. It was just a walk up the hill. It was very nice to be able to take the train and bus and not need to drive as driving is slow and the roads are narrow and very busy. I'm not sure if we will get back but I would love to stay there again.

In all of our travels I don't know that we've ever stayed at a more spectacular property. The view out our bedroom window of Capri, Naples, Vesuvius and Ischia was breathtaking. The property itself, over 500 years old, is beautifully maintained and exquistely appointed. The owners are particularly proud of their many garden areas and they left fresh flowers in our room daily. The setting makes for a very peaceful stay. We never felt that we were going back to a rented room however felt that we were arriving home after a days outing. The location is excellent as their are numerous restaurants to choose from along the main road below that are all fantastic. The location is also great for day trips to Pompei, Sorrento, Capri, and the Amalifi Coast areas. However what really made our stay here so special is the owners Aldo and Matilde. They couldn't do enough for us. They are so genuine and loving and do what they do because they love what they do. They created a memory for us that will never be forgotten. I would pay twice the price to stay here again as it was an "event" for us not just a stay.

We stayed here for 10 days and the whole experience was completeley fantastic. The location and view simply cannot be beaten, as the buildings sit high on the hill looking out over the lush Bay of Naples.
I would strongly recommend staying in the Foresteria as we did - a private cottage in a secluded corner of the farm with its own small lawn, garden and terrace.
It is the perfect base to explore either Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento in one direction, or the Amalfi Coast through to Salerno in the other. Allow plenty of time to explore anywhere though would be my advice due to the narrowness of the roads! A smaller hire car too would be more practical.
Aldo and Mathilde are very very lovely hosts and will do everything (and more) to make you feel welcome, including helping with trips/bookings, restaurants, timetables and dinner is even offered too at weekends if needed. It's a great way to make friends with other travellers staying there.
I would highly recommend this location for an amazing and relaxing holiday in a stunning part of Italy - take plenty of insect repellent though!
