“Very nice place to stay, with a few points of caution”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2011

First, the positives: Beautiful place - the farm, the building, outside areas, guest rooms and their appointments. Friendly and attentive staff. Very friendly animals. :) Downright excellent "Italian" breakfast (cakes to die for, juice, coffee, fruits). Our dinner (we were charged EUR 200 for 7 people - very fair for the amount of food) had absolutely delicious charcuterie (ham/prosciutto/etc.) plates, really great white house wine, and so-so assorted grilled meats.

Now a couple cautionary points. The place is sometimes used for relatively large events, so if you want a peaceful and quiet farm stay, you may be in for a surprise. If you care about that, it's best to ask by email before booking if there are any events planned during your stay. Ours was 3 nights Sunday-Tuesday (looked like we were the only guests, using 3 rooms); the first night there was a celebration for a large group of children inside/downstairs, with games, karaoke etc. lasting till about midnight; the next night there was a wedding for 120 people, which was over relatively early, about 11pm. In the end, we didn't have any problems - even if we wanted to sleep earlier (which we didn't), the windows were extremely sound (and light) proof. The first night we had staff attention for a nice dinner, check-in, etc. The second day was much tougher on staff though - wedding preparations started early, then when we returned late evening they were very tired after the wedding and we had a bit of struggle finding garden seating away from ongoing wedding cleanup, having to witness all the commotion around us. On the other hand, they did apologize and tried to make up in several ways, including another late-night delicious charcuterie plate. So in the end, we loved our stay, but we do have one complaint: If they rent guest rooms when a large wedding is to take place (and it did look like a special, not regular event, though a friend since told me he stayed at another agroturismi farm in the same area and had the same thing happen), they should give guests an advanced warning. Especially since we did exchange a few emails after booking: when I asked how late our dinner can be served on the first night, the reply was: "we can serve the dinner to you until 10.00 p.m. as we have a current meeting." "A current meeting" apparently referred to children's party the first night; nothing about the wedding. (Also, unrelated: WiFi was "broken", but they let us use their computer downstairs.)

Another useful tip pertains to the location. While Massa Lubrense is a lovely little town, and is a nice break from traffic and tourists-choked Sorrento, one GPS / SatNav (TomTom) had no idea about this address and couldn't route to it; the other (Garmin) routed perfectly, but - right through Sorrento. If you aim to drive to Amalfi coast, this location is just great - you get right to it on beautiful traffic-free roads through the rural peninsula you may not otherwise see, avoiding Sorrento. But if you plan to drive anywhere else - to Autostrada (A3), to Napoli or Pompeii, to Paestum/Salento - and use GPS, you'll probably be routed through Sorrento, which has the worst, most annoying constant traffic all day every day, adding a good hour to your trip and making this location inconvenient. I checked Google maps upon return - it routes differently, through a winding road toward Amalfi coast, then cutting north to Meta, therefore going around Sorrento entirely, and claims it's faster, too; having not done that exact drive myself though I imagine it would take a few tricks to make GPS pick it up, but in any case - do avoid driving through Sorrento at all costs if you can, unless it's late at night.

We enjoyed our short stay very much, rooms are lovely and all new, very high standard and quality in the rooms, lovely place to stay as there are just 6 rooms. Wonderful surroundings, agriturismo- so lots of land around the small hotel and it has own restaurant and pizza place in the grounds, great for children also, they have animals and play area. Massa is very near to Sorrento and easy to get there by bus or car.
Views from upstairs rooms are wonderful to coast line and Capri and Naples absolute paradise, only comments are that breakfast could be served much earlier and that children staying with parents are asked to be more thoughtful re other guests- running around the garden at 11.30 pm and yelling is not really acceptable at that time of night.
Breakfast could also include a little more healthy food such as cereals, fruit and yoghurts etc instead off all sweet cakes- lovely family run business and the prices are very good for this area which can be expensive at the best of time.
We will go back again but I will ask if there are any children booked in first, with only 6 rooms and them being next door to us one night was very stressful. I love kids but not late at night! One small comment on getting rooms ready for guests- before 3pm would be a good idea, we had to wait an hour to get into our room at around 4pm or later we just needed to drop off our bags and then go but the room was not ready! We had traveled a long a long way so were tired. They were great at accepting our two small dogs, an animal friendly place.
Over all wonderful place to stay and very friendly, lovely grounds and peaceful set behind a lovely old church of San Francesco, Massa is also a lovely place to wonder around and the beach is not far.
Would stay there again anytime, highly recommended. 4 star quality at least.

Room Tip: Rooms are all good, they have doubles or family.

Stunning surroundings, a relaxing family atmosphere with comfortable clean rooms and excellent food and wine in the restaurant. If you're on holiday with children your stay will be made easier by the large garden providing various forms of entertainment for the children including farm animals and a small playground. The perfect place for to enjoy the Sorrento coast from for all ages.
The staff are ever so friendly and helpful and the views are very special.

We were only able to stay for one night unfortunately, but were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home immediately. The Agriturismo is in a beautiful location, with marvellous views. The rooms are spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The food and service were excellent. It was just perfect for us.

We had a gread time at the Podere Don Peppe last week. The whole place and the rooms were recently renewed. The rooms are very nice and tastefully arranged. Roberto who takes care of it all is just wonderful, very kind, helpfull and always smiling. The place is good situated to visit the surroudings (just 8 km from Sorrento which is very nice and just one hour drive from Neaples, and Amali or Ravello). There is also a good possibility to visit Capri from Nerano which is just 10Km far and very easy to reach.

It was a real pleasure to be a guest of family "Don Peppe" at their charming
farmhouse during the last week of April 2010. Not only their hospitality
and service were first class and warm at the same time but also the
farmhouse itself was very good. Comfortable rooms, complete and clean, and
a roof terrace with a view on the sea, Capri and the Vesuvius. Since the
farmhouse is located between olive and lemon trees it is a great place for
people who like to stay in a quiet environment but close to the Amalfi
coast, Sorrento etc.
Although (Italian) breakfast could improve somewhat diner in the farmhouse
was excellent (many of the products from the farmhouse' land if one
wishes).
To fully enjoy the place and Italian family life it would help to speak
(somewhat) Italian.
Overall price/quality of the farmhouse is very good.
