followed the recomandations on tripadviser we have choosed De Maria House .I was traveling with my family - sons and grandchilldren - celebrating my 70th birthday. we stayed here in September for 3 nights and it was a great contribution to the successs of the trip. the quiet location- aside of the turist center and yet not too far, the clean and cozy rooms, the rich buffe breakfast (like in a 5 stars hotel), the very good food we have had at the evenings at the Picnic restaurant and above all the wonderfull family staff - the ladies in the kitchen, the welcoming of Augusta and the hospitality of Lidia which gave to each one of us the good filling of home. we want to thank them al for the wonderfull taste of Italy we have had at De maria House and hope to be back one day.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two nights. It was a bit hard to find, maybe posting a foto of the entrance in the street. Also telling about the entrance, which you have to use after the staff is gone. But the room was very clean and the staff was nice. The location of the B&B is little bit aside, which we liked. It`s near Sorrento, but not in the middle of the mass tourist. You could see the authentic italian village.

We stayed at the De Maria House for 3 nights recently and what a joy it was. For 4 nights prior to this we had stayed at the wonderful Grand Hotel Hermitage on the other side of Sant’Agata about 2 kilometres away. They were both very different but equally enjoyable.

The De Maria House, coupled with its own Pic Nic restaurant, is in the small village of Pastena. From the road the only visible part of it is the quite modern looking glass structure to the right of the church and car park. Automatic sliding doors take you to some stairs which take you down to the reception area which is next to the restaurant. We were met by Theresa, the owner. What a remarkable lady. She and her husband, Michele have owned the building for about 50 years and have recently completely modernised the accommodation areas to a very high standard. Our room (the red room) was very modern and comfortable. It had air conditioning, TV with satellite, in-room music, bathroom with walk-in shower. Some rooms are accessed directly from the reception area but the red room was around the back of the property, but this was not a problem. One of Theresa’s daughters took our bags through their kitchen to our room, so we did not have to manoeuvre them down the stairs. I went through the kitchen later myself – once again very modern, spotless and surprisingly large.

There is free wi-fi throughout. Theresa brought us a repeater to plug in case the reception in our room was weak – something I have never been offered in any hotel, so a lovely touch. With all these mod-cons, I started to wonder if Theresa was a bit of a gadget queen! I explained to her that I did not have the right adapter for our English electrical items, and she produced a box full of adapters for me to borrow. It is worth noting that the Italian electrical socket is different to other countries in Europe, so the standard adapter sold in England will not fit, but Theresa saved the day.

She was most helpful, helping us with bus timetables to Sorrento and beyond. Tickets for the bus are bought at the little shop 50 yards down the road, where the owner is very helpful and does speak some English.

The charming, larger village of Sant’Agata is about a kilometre up the road. You can walk there by taking a footpath that bypasses the road, although it is quite an uphill trek.

We decided to have dinner on the terrace at the De Maria House restaurant (the Pic-Nic) which has fantastic home-cooked food. Michele manned his pizza kitchen with great pride. He does make some of the best pizza I have ever had. The next day he showed us how he makes his dough, letting it rise for 48 hours. Our server was the tireless Lidia. She was always there, working so hard, at dinner and breakfast. We had some brilliant broken English/Italian conversations with her. She has worked there since she was a teen, so a testament to the family she works for.

Regrettably, we were only at the De Maria house for 3 nights. We would love to return as it is very special and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. It is located in a relatively remote area so if you want the hustle and bustle of Sorrento you will need to take a bus/taxi or car, but it was just perfect for us.

Thank you again to Theresa, Michele, your family and to Lidia. You were the perfect hosts.

Based on many positive tripadvisor reviews I took a chance and chose to stay here with my wife and our kids (17, 24) rather than a place in Sorrento (we were on vacation from the US and had never been to this area). So glad we chose this - a real gem and a good deal too! Very friendly staff and clean modern rooms that were cozy and restful. Great breakfast in a lovely dining area with a view of the surrounding hillsides. We all loved the location and the authentic small town charm of the area. We had a rental car which worked out great with convenient free parking and reasonable (and very scenic) driving to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast (but get ready for a challenge driving very narrow streets with cars and scooters zipping by!). All in all a great experience and a lovely B&B.
