We have now stayed and been to this resort four times. The Hotel La Certose provides good, clean modern yet traditional style on the outside and modern on the inside accommodation and is situated in Marina Del Cantone alongside the beach. All the seaview rooms have balconies and provide excellent views of the Nerono Bay. For us, the highlight of the stay is the hotels restaurant called Pappone, which provides excellent rustic Italian food with views overlooking the sea. I can assure you you will never taste food like it again anywhere in the World and the price is between 30 to 50 Euros inc a bottle of wine each night for two persons. We intended eating out at the other eight restaurants in Marina Del Cantone, but the food was so good in Pappone.

WOW what an amazing holiday. From the moment we arrived we were instantly relaxed. Two steps onto the beach, scorching weather, beautiful sea (although beware of the jellyfish as I was stung on our second to last day which was annoying!). The hotel staff were so friendly and attentive. Brothers Alessandro & Alfonso made sure that we had everything we needed. The pizzeria next door is owned by their brother and is lovely! We ate there almost every night. Lots of lovely little restaurants to choose from, all overlooking the water and the boats. We did a boat trip to Capri one day which was amazing & we wanted to do the boat trip to Positano & Amalfi but ran out of time.
Don't go if you are looking for a raging nightlife but do go if you enjoy welcoming people, lovely food & feeling instantly relaxed.

My two days in Massa Lubrense was the highlight of a two week trip across Italy. Having said this, I wish you good luck on the drive getting to Massa Lubrense. When I began researching places to stay on the Sorrento Peninsula, I was drawn to Hotel La Certosa as it was "off the beaten path," and appeared to be a distance from Sorrento proper. I was not disappointed...

To get to Hotel La Certosa you have to navigate endless hairpin turns along breathtaking mountains and picturesque coastline, sharing the tight roads with parked cars, scooters, pedestrians, animals, and tourist buses. The daring drive in itself is well worth it as you completely get away from Sorrento, which is a town MUCH larger and busier than I ever imagined. Directions to the Hotel are not fantastic, but as long as you realize you're going to the furthest point on the peninsula, you will eventually find it.

This family-run hotel is situated on the pebble beach of a bay, surrounded by steep mountains. My room was on the third floor and had a balcony overlooking the bay and all the boats traveling in and out of the area. The air conditioning was not on (not sure if the hotel has it), but keeping the doors of the balcony open kept the sea breezes flowing in. The bathroom is small, but everything was clean.

The hotel places complimentary beach chairs on the beach upon your arrival. The hotel also paid for parking, which was only feet from the hotel itself, but apparently operated by someone else.

I did not go to Capri, however there is a 9am boat that leaves from the dock directly in front of the hotel every morning. It is a bit more expensive than the boats from Sorrento or Portofino, but is worth it, as otherwise you would have to drive back through the hills and find parking in crazy Sorrento. (This is about an hour drive)

We ate at the hotel one night and another restaurant on our second night. The food and wine were amazingly good at both.

Some of the staff of the hotel speak English, however many members of the obviously closely-knit community do not. It is worth noting that Marina di Cantone is still a very working-class community, torn between the onslaught of tourism and the privacy of an old fishing village.

This hotel is a value for any traveler on a budget who is prepared for a more authentic Italian experience.

If you are looking for adventure, don't go,if you are looking for night life do'nt go, but if you want to rest, an enjoy the good things of Italian life do go.
The owners are the most warmhearted and friendly people you can imagine, they make you feel at home at once, the hotel is basic, rooms are spacy, bathroom is basic, but most important it is verly clean, service is excellent, the food has the real taste of Italy.
We come three times a year for four years and every time is a feast for is. And when we come home we are a little homesick for Certosa.
As for the tips and guidelines, by a traveguide and you finde everything in it.

Our family stayed at villa certosa the second time. A small hotel directly on the rocky beach of marina del cantone. The location is a dream, especialy in May, later in summer it gets verry crowded. The Hotel is a tipical family run place. Nice, claen, bright rooms, very good food, cocked by the mother and doughter in low. Two brothers take care of the business an the grandfather is sitting an a tabel at the side, keeping an eye on everything. Super Family freindly. Recomendes for relaxed traveller who dont need much luxury and apreciate the stile of an authentik place. Wonderfull surroundings for hiking etc,
