What a wonderful place to stay. If you want authentic, this is the place. This hotel is family owned (5th generation) has a 5 star restaurant, and the best family members. Thank you for everything. It is a beautiful well established hotel with some fantastic views.

Room Tip: Inbetween Sorrento & Massa. Easily accessed by bus. No pool, but close to a wonderful beach...

First to say - we didn't book through Thomsons but as independent travellers. Our rooms were above the acclaimed restaurant and, whilst not massive, were well equipped (fridge, hairdryer, air con as well as all the usual) with bedding and towels changed very frequently. The bathroom was ample though would benefit from another shelf for toiletries. The shower very efficient.

Food was lovely; plentiful, diverse and local. From the buffet breakfast (included in our stay) to the a la carte evening meal (extra cost) the quality was superb. We happily ate in-house for half of our stay and with glorious views across the whole bay - wonderful.

Villa Pina is some km out of Massa Lubrense but the peace was to us very welcome The gardens are gorgeous - enough room for a pool which would have really been the icing on the cake. The roof terrace is a real sun trap and very restful place to be.

Some of the things written in other reviews about the attitudes of staff, really astonish me! The family who run this hotel could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We had (what turned out to be ) a minor problem which at the time - at night, flummoxed, unable to speak the language etc, etc - seemed major. The family took control and, without any fuss whatsoever, made phone calls for us, wrote emails for us and took us on two car journeys to sort things out. Quite what we would have done without them, I'm not sure but safe to say, the holiday could have been ruined without their intervention. I simply do not recognise the descriptions given by some on here. We were truly grateful for the helpfulness, friendliness and efficiency of the patron and his wife and thankful that we ended up with them to sort us out!
Perhaps you get out of people what you in turn, give to them?
All in all, and in a big part due to the patrons, a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms over the restaurant have exceptional views.

As previously stated by reviewers, clean but a little dated hotel. No tea / coffee making in rooms, shame.
Not for families with children as hotel is a way out of Sorrento and busy road to cross to restaurant. Also Thomsons advertise use of nearby pool....THERE IS NOT !

Owners & Staff really friendly, great choice of excellent food, for evening dining on half board, plus an superb A La Carte menu. Plenty of non hotels diners in at lunch and evening, testament to quality of food and service.

Beach at Marina Du Paulo, good walk away and steep climb back again.

Buses, tickets for Seta buses available at reception, EAV buses tickets can be paid for on bus from driver 1.50 euros each ticket. If driver no ticket, you get a free journey.

Taxis are Very expensive, Taxi from Piazza Tasso to hotel 36.5 euros...ouch.

Go with open mind, hotel not modern, but clean, quite isolated, but an excellent restaurant. Free air conditioning in bedrooms.

Room Tip: 109, big room with outside balcony, big bathroom.

Room was basic, fairly small and decor/furniture was a bit dated but clean - nothing unexpected ( see other Tripadvisor reviews). Fresh towels each day and bedding changed several times during week. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was very good, always a choice including vegetarian and staff happy to offer variations. Reasonable prices charged for drinks ( 10 euro for bottle of house wine). Breakfast buffet offers a good selection. Air conditioning worked well. Nice roof terrace and garden. Wi-Fi available - five euros for week ( didn't work in our room ).

Location is a couple of miles outside of Sorrento. Not a lot to do around the hotel but relax and enjoy the fantastic views. A nice place to come back to after the bustle of Sorrento.

Easiest way into town is by bus but also possible to walk. Closest beach (pebble) is a 20 minute walk, 30 minutes back up the hill but worth going a bit further (bus or walk) Marina Della Lobra.

Would be happy to return.

My self and my 6yr old daughter arrived at midnight and was greeted by Francesco who took our bags up for us.
The balcony room we are in has a rustic charm with a breathtaking view. The only thing I could say warranted improving would be tea and coffee making facilities as was gaspinh when I arrived. To be honest though, I think if I had asked Francesco or Filamina they would have whisked some up in a heartbeat. They have run themselves ragged for us all week so far. Nothing, but nothing has been too much trouble for them or their staff - who are all so friendly, kind and cannot do enough for us. For example; - It was Elora's birthday and, without prompting, they brought out a special cake with a candle in it and staff sang Happy Birthday to her (the rest of the customers joined in too) which was fabulous and such a gorgeous surprise!
Today we walked down to the beach - which is quite a hike and a little worrying with the cars whisking by, but is a beautiful walk though. When we arrived Elora started to feel ill and within an hour she felt very sick indeed. I called the hotel to ask for a cab but instead Filamina insisted on coming to pick us up and when I offered her some money she woukdn't hear of it!!
Food... My word! What can I say? All the ingredients are locally sourced and bursting with flavour! The tomatoes are unlike any I have ever tasted...they are bright red and so juicy. I am astonished that anyone could find fault with the food or the service.Elora is a fussy eater and, so far, has eaten everything she has been given.
It makes me sad that people have given the hotel such bad reviews and I am sorry to hear they have had bad experiences. I am sure they are in the minority.
If you are looking for a 'hi-tech', ultra modern, sterile hotel with Nouvelle Quisine then the Hotel Villa Pina is not for you. However, if you are looking for a truly Italian experience, in the heart of the Amalfi coast, surrounded by a rustic, cosy, embracing, family environment which has been here for over 100years, offering breathtaking views and exquisite food then this is the holiday for you. I have spent 7yrs saving for this (is our first ever holiday) and I would say every penny is well spent!
Some useful information...
The beach is a VERY long walk away and is stony as opposed to sandy. It is lovely when you get there and the water is beautiful!!
Taxis are pretty much twice the price of English ones, costing €25-€30 to get to and from town. We booked some early excursions where we had no choice but to take a taxi amd I nearly fainted at the price (especially as the excursions cost a lot of money and you still have to pay for entrance! :-( ).
Under 18's generally do not have to pay entrances to attractions (older teens have to produce passports for proof).
Many things such as drinks etc are more expensive in Italy than in England. But the Italian people are friendly and welcomming and always happy to help!!
I hope this review is helpful...please come and try the Hotel Villa Pina for yourself...it is a fabulous experience!!!
