Having read the previous reviews before travelling, I was already a little concerned before setting off.

Even though it was peak holiday season when we travelled, the complex was pretty much deserted. I have to agree with a previous reviewer that the breakfast is not really worth getting up for but as there is not much else nearby, we did. The rooms were rather disappointing too. I did not have high expectations, but the state of decoration was poor and there was no air conditioning or fans available, so it was very difficult to sleep at night. This problem was compounded by the fact that there were several discos on the beach below the hotel which played really, really loud music until 4am on several nights.

On the plus side, this hotel is in a beautiful location and the pools, though small, were never very busy and we often had them to ourselves. We upgraded to a balcony room, which made a lot of difference to our experience. I can't help but thinking that, on location alone, Villa Lubrense could be doing far, far better than it is.

The previous reviews worried me before my arrival at Villa Lubrense, and any worries were alleviated immediately. Villa Lubrense is a beautiful hotel in a stunning part of Italy (Although, it is not for the faint hearted and a car is beneficial) The grounds are spectacular and the views are breathtaking!

The pool is amazing, and perhaps more amazingly the pool bar was open 9-7 everyday, serving snacks, soft drinks and alcohol at a reasonable price.

Its fair to say the level of English spoken by staff is low but this is a family run hotel not a best western, they are however very friendly and do their best, considering I speak zero Italian I got along fine! If you want English speaking head to Sorrento.

The taxis are extortionate but surplus to requirement, Sorrento begins to quieten down around 11pm, the same time as the last bus which is very easy to find and always on time! You can set your watch to them and at 1 Euro very reasonable. DO NOT GET IN A TAXI !!

The one problem is the restaurant, we found breakfast to be nice (lets not forget this is one of the cheapest hotels in the area) but the restaurant at night is non-existent, but with so many amazing restaurants, especially in Marina Della Lobra (a gem of a town) do you really want to eat at the hotel?

I loved this hotel, but you will need a sense of adventure as this serves as a very Italian base to reach Sorrento, Postitano, Amalfi and the cost....

I think this hotel is getting a bum deal from the reviewers. I agree with most of the points raised by previous reviewers...yes the hotel is isolated, yes the resturaunt was cr@p, yes the staff do leave you alone. However you can't beat the location. It's a far better option than staying in Sorrento, which was manic. We found public transport to be reliable and cheap (although the bus stops were somewhat dodgy). The staff couldn't speak much English, but I don't speak much Italian so who's at fault? We managed to get by OK, the girls in reception coped admirably with my readings from a phrasebook. I found them to be very helpful. We ate in the resturaunt on our first night and didn't bother again. We found the best option was to walk down the rickety stairs to the fishing village below (Puolo?). There was a fantastic resturant immediately to the left of the footpath, we ate in there every night. Can't remember the name but it was run by a guy called Raphael. It was half the price of the hotel resturaunt and excellent quality. My teenagers were gutted when it was closed on our last night. The beach at Puolo was also great, trying getting onto a beach in Sorrento to make a comparison, I know where I'd rather be. We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel, it has its faults but it's idyllic. My advise....buy a phrase book, get familiar with the bus/train timetables, make an effort with the locals/staff and you'll have a great time. Just make sure you stock up with wine before arriving and give the taxis a miss.

I agree with the two previous reviews that this hotel is in a fantastic location, and other than being unaware just how expensive taxis to and from Sorrento were, we found it fairly easy to get in and out of town (1 euro on the Sita bus). The rooms were basic, but generally fine. However, we found the service in the hotel very much lacking. The entire complex was pretty much deserted for the duration of our stay, which meant the bar and snack bar - as specified on the hotel details - never opened. We therefore had to go to the restaurant a few minutes walk away which, although very nice, was quite expensive. Dinner was offered in the restaurant, but this was for one hour only in the evening and would have involved eating alone in a room with a capacity of 250 people! Breakfast was disappointing and was not worth getting up for! The servicing of the rooms was fairly erratic too - on two occasions no towels were left in the room, and basics such as soap and toilet roll were sometimes not replenished. The final straw was on our penultimate night when a birthday party was being held in the restaurant. As this was directly next door to the hotel rooms, and went on until 5 am, it wasn't very conducive to sightseeing the next day! Overall, although the location was great and we enjoyed our holiday, this hotel was not great value for money and would benefit from providing a higher level of service and facilities.

I have just come back from villa lubrense, I stayed there for 3 nights, the views are very beautiful, I had a sea view room with a balcony. The rooms are cleaned every day. Its lovely and quiet, the pool side is great, along with the surroundings of the hotel. Absolutely ideal if you want a quiet few days, with your own vehicle.

A car is required or knowledge of Italian to get around by bus. There is not much any where in the distance around. there nearest shop is too far to walk.

There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room which wouldnt matter so much if there were facilities in the hotel to get tea and coffee, or even soft drinks but there wasnt anywhere.

The staff didnt pay any attention to guests once checked in unless you went to enquire to them about anything.

There was breakfast available, which consisted of coffee/tea a bread roll and some butter and jam. no continental buffet or choice. There was no other available untill Dinner which was limited on the menu and we found the waiter had no idea what was on the menu either. The restaurant was lifeless and no atmosphere.

The pool side bar/snack area was not open when it had stated on the hotel details it would be open in May.

We walked to a nearby hotel which was a few minutes along the road for breakfast and for dinner, they were very welcoming, warm, and the meals were fabulous, the restaurant always had customers. the service was excellent. As we used this hotel it made our stay perfect.

Hi, I have just come back from a short stay in Villa Lubrense which I believe is a short way away from Massa Lubrense. My friend and I did not manage to walk into town, partly due to not being given great directions and also the roads had no pavements, not ideal for two girls to walk along being bibbed at by men of all ages on scooters!!

Taxi's are very expensive at 25-30 Euros for a very, very short ride into town and do not seem justifiable. Buses are available at a very reasonable 1 Euro but the busstops are not always easy to find!

Our hotel was so so pretty and in a fantastic setting with amazing scenery looking out at the Bay of Naples. Maybe it was due to being early season but the hotel is not near anything much at all and if you want to stay at the hotel during the day you'd have a struggle to have some lunch or find something to drink.

The hotel is probably fine if you have your own transport but not ideal if you want to be near the action. They would benefit from running courtesey buses into Sorrento and maybe the staff learning a little more English. I sound like a lazy English person not attempting Italian but if they are going to advertise on popular UK holiday websites they might find it easier to speak with their clients.

The staff were very friendly and with a little more attention to their guests this could be a fabulous place to stay!
