It's my second day here and I am loving it. Rooms are as expected. Basic but clean and good value for money. The welcome was lovely. Amazing food so far, fresh pizza for €4 huge glass of wine for €3 draught beer served in chilled frosted glass..private beach which is kept immaculate. Stunning views of versuvius and really helpful staff. Nothing seems too much trouble. Free shuttle to sorrento is provided as location is remote but if you are looking for a little piece of unspoilt heaven then this is it.

We got room 202, no daylight except for a little light from a window with view on blind wall, not enough to light the room. Day and night the lights on! Black spots on wall from dead musquito’s and mould on the wall in the bathroom. Beds were no good, sheets were never changed in 7 days!
Food in the restaurant was not special, breakfast simple, never an egg, dinner: lots of pasta, not very tasty and vegetables from a can(carrot, mushroom). We got twice sour wine, after complaint they replace it for normal wine, but they do it again two days later.
The beach, the sea and the sun are lovely there, but we never go back to this hotel, we are very disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view and ask for clean sheets and good beds, maybe it will be better than our...

The Baia Hotel is located several Kilometres from Sorrento on the beach at Massa Lubrense. Access is via a steep narrow winding road or by a footpath leading through the olive and lemon groves. It is a small no frills 3 star country hotel that appears to have been built in several stages and is a rabbit warren of various sized and shaped rooms and different buildings. Many of the rooms either look out onto a very small court yard or wall and have very little natural light. If this is a concern you should book a front facing room, several have balconies, or opt for the annex.

Housekeeping was excellent and the front of house staff friendly and helpful.

Meals including breakfast are served in the open air restaurant overlooking the beach, the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. If you are half board you may find the food basic with limited choice. However, at 10 Euros a day it was undoubtedly value for money. On the down side there was a very limited choice of wine and the restaurant didn't serve coffee. Also, although open, the bar was never staffed and in two weeks we only managed to get one drink! No problem though as there are several excellent snack bars and restaurants within 2 minutes walk.

The hotel is in a fantastic difficult to reach location with wonderful views. Massa Lubrense is a small but lively friendly community, bustling with local children and families. However, don't go for the night life, there isn't any. The hotel runs a courtesy bus service to and from Sorrento several times a day and if you are travelling independently will even provide transfers to and from the station. The private beach is well maintained, as is the adjoining public beach.

On the down side it is unsuitable for those with mobility problems, the car park is a five minute walk away down a dust track and many teenagers will die of boredom.

All in all it's a 3 star hotel in a 5 star location. Be realistic as to what a 3 star country hotel means and you will find, as we did, that you will have a value for money holiday in a fantastic setting. If you expect 5 star service and facilities, then pay five star prices and go to a five star hotel!

The photographs of the Hotel and the Beach, do not do it justice...it is far worse.!!
The Hotel is depressing, dated and souless, as is the Bay of Marina di Puolo.
It is more Youth Hostel than Hotel, and the Hotel web-site is totally mis-leading.
Read all the bad reviews on the various web-sites...and believe them!!
The good points? The bedding and the room was clean.

Frist impressions not good, took a long time to locate hotel, unable to drive to the door had to ask staff to open a gate, there was car parking a little distance from the hotel. Not easy to find if you arrive after dark ( like other members of our party did).

Staff were friendly and helpful, hotel basic, clean and quite at times. Night club situated across the car part area - (did hear some nosie at times- but did not disturb us ).

The Private Beach was - black sand and stoney in places. We had to pay to use the beach, sunbeds and umberella's. Alright if you are going to stay there all day, would work out expenive if you were staying for some time.

The room we had was at the front of the hotel so we had a sea view. It was a no frills hotel and good value for money. We stayed on a B+B rate.

Breakfast was simple with a limited choice. The food in the restaurant good, but again a limited choice; quite basic , reasonably priced. Did not eat every meal at hotel went to one of the local pizza places. There was not alot to do in this quite location , a car was needed to get out and about to see more local sites of interest.

I would consider staying there again - but saw better hotels in better locations. It would depend on why you were visting this area. Sorrento is about 15-20 mins away depending on traffic.

This hotel was very nice, clean, our room was comfortable, big with a nice view on the beach. The personnel is very friendly and very helpful. Without a car, it is sometimes difficult. A free shuttle can easily take you to Sorrento.

The food was simple but excellent, service was very good.

It is an ideal hotel to stay for some days. It is nice to get back from excursions and find a quiet hotel with only the sound of the sea.

I forgot to say that the owners are great people. It is a real italian family hotel.

We will certainly go back.

The hotel was good for the price, although the directions were a bit misleading. The website we used described it as 2km from the centre of Sorrento- as the crow flies maybe! It was a good 10 minute drive down winding roads as the hotel is located next to a beach. You couldn't walk to the hotel with bags. We called the hotel from Naples to tell them what time we'd be arriving at the train station and they sent a car to pick us up for free, very helpful. Otherwise you'd definitely need a taxi.

It's nice and tucked away, but there's really nothing but the beach and a couple of cheap restaurants down there if you want to do anything but sunbathe and swim. The hotel has a section of private beach, which gets a bit pebbly towards the sea. It's nice to relax on, but you do have to hire sun beds and umbrellas.

The room was clean with air conditioning and a small en suite, the shower did soak the floor, but at least it was tiled. The bed was 2 singles pushed together. Despite the website we used claiming all rooms have a view of the sea and mountain we had a view of a small internal court yard- not pretty, which left our room quite dark.

The restaurant was adequate, but nothing special. We only stayed for 2 nights, and the second night we ate in Sorrento.

The hotel provides a free mini bus service into town, but for some reason there is no service between 10.30-16.30 into town. The return buses are a bit sparse too, with no service between 17.30-23.15. So if you have young kids you might need a taxi. But the service was prompt, free and useful.

Overall it was good value for the cheap price we paid, but if I was returning to Sorrento I'd want a hotel closer to the town.
