“We had fun, but apparently it used to be better”
Review of Lido di Menaggio

Lido di Menaggio
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Family have a holiday home in the area & have children slightly younger than ours, so they recommended the Lido as a place for the cousins to hang out & for the adults to get together.
Apparently if you get there after 2pm, it's half price, but you may miss out on the best sun beds. We had lunch at the small cafe, and whilst we thought the selection was fine (think public pool/small deli fare), our family (who have been coming here for years) were very dissappointed. You apparently used to get lovely Italian meals - proper meals - now the pizza looked pre made & reheated & the coffee was atrocious - I didn't drink it, but the coffee buffs amongst us assured me it was so.
I had the spelt salad & it was lovely, the children all enjoyed their sandwiches & fries... So as far as I can see, it was fine. If you've been in years past, things have changed, but not so much so that I would say not to go, just adjust your expectations when you get there!
The children all had a ball at the pool & then came & joined the adults at the lakeside. The scenery was amazing! Everyone had a good time overall, so I think it's well worth the visit!

We were staying in Menaggio in an apartment without a pool, so hoped to visit the lido a couple of times during the week. We first went on a Sunday and it was a nice day out.

There is a large adult pool which is very clean, and is cool but warmer than the lake water in June, and there is a very shallow children's pool. Entry is €8 per person before 2.30pm, and €5 after, €3 per person for a sun lounger and €3 for a compulsory swimming cap. There are changing cabins for an extra fee.

There is also a platform with sun-loungers which gives access to the lake if you are brave enough to swim in the cold water. Perhaps later in the summer it is a more pleasant temperature.

There is a bar which serves reasonably priced drinks and snacks, though it didn't seem that you could take drinks into the pool area.

We tried to return on the following Thursday, but were told the pool was closed because it was "broken" and wouldn't be open until Saturday, which was when we were leaving, which was a disappointment. It seemed you could still pay entry to have a sun-lounger on the part where you could swim in the lake, but that seemed a little pointless to us.

From other reviews it seems that this may happen quite a lot, so perhaps it would be best not to rely on this if you are a keen swimmer, and instead find a hotel with a pool.

On our recent holiday to Lake Como in Italy we did a trip to Menaggio on the local bus. It was only a few minutes ride away from where we were staying in Caddenabbia and the bus took us right into the town so it was easy to get our bearings. We had a pleasant walk along the lakeside to the marina then we wandered around the little streets and browsed in the shops. There are plenty of good cafes and gift shops and there is even a large supermarket in case you need supplies. We saw a couple of lovely delicatessans stocked with all things typically Italian. We also went into the lovely church in the centre of town which was full of impressive artworks. All in all, a pretty little lakeside Italian town, well worth a visit.

Wanted to go there, but it wasn't open until June despite being such a nice warm weekend at the end of May.

Menaggio has the best waterfront promenade of all towns on the lake, wide, long, paved, full of flowers and fountains. Right off it is a very nice pedestrian centre with a couple of small churches and a comparatively wide main piazza with cafes.
