Description: Siora Amelia is an historic restaurant offering fish dishes and traditional Italian cuisine in Mestre (Venice mainland district, about 9 kms from the historic center of Venice). It opened in 1925 and became famous in the 1960s when it used to be known as Trattoria Dall'Amelia. Siora Amelia is a charming and atmospheric place including the Trattoria and the Restaurant; the Osteria offering typical Venetian small snacks or "cichetti" in an informal location. The Restaurant offers first-class service in an elegant but friendly atmosphere. Aperitives and drinks can be enjoyed in the lounge area next to the Cocktail Bar, a perfect place to chat, relax and... drink!

Despite being located outside central Venice, I highly reccomend getting into a taxy and go to this restaurant just 20 minutes by car or 40 minutes by bus from Piazzale Roma (Venice bus terminal).
Notably restaurants in Venice do not offer the value for money you would get in other cities like Rome or Florence.
But trattoria Amelia it' s a different story:
It is a bit pricey but here you can sample real Venitian cuisine with 'nouvelle cuisine' influences.
The restaurant is fish based, with an excellent choice for wines.
I had a lovely squid salad appetizer, followed by some marvellous clams spaghetti, a soft and not too greasy 'frittura' (fish fry up) served with grilled vegetables, and a great slice of home made pistacchio cake.
I had a Lugana white wine and sample some grappas.
I highly reccomend this place, although be warned it is not cheap but well worth it if you wish to try real Venetian food - the quality is way better than what you would find in central Venice.

Had dinner on a Saturday night. Restaurant opens at 8 PM the first hour nearly empty. Had lobster expensive and tasteless. The sea scallops were good. Fresh tuna was served like warm. Wine service was slow. Overall not worth the money.

This restaurant is probably the most renowned in the area. It has specialized in food from the region of Venice, mostly fished and sea food based. The venue has several parking spots nearby.

The dining room is rather big, so despite the quite few tables, there is enough space between them to keeps one's privacy. The tables are all round, which is a very convivial setting, especially for family dinners. The menu has a very wide variety of dishes, 90% of them are made with products coming out of the sea and only a very few dishes are made of meat. There are no dishes for vegetarians and greens need to be requested directly to the waiter and are off the menu. Speaking of the waiter, make sure you get him to take the time to explain what the different fish are as Italians have one hundred different ways to call the same fish. Otherwise, the cuisine is very good and it will really let you experience traditional dishes from the Venice area.

I read reviews on this site about this restaurant and wanted to go on New Years Day for lunch... I couldn't have been more satisfied!!
The service while booking already made me understand the level of service and this was confirmed tenfold when I arrived.
The service was excellent, antipasto out of this world and the main course I would recommend to any seafood love - mixed grill of Adriatic fish... simply divine!
