Stayed here for a week last week and although not cheap by any means we booked the hotel for it's convenience to Venice. As everyone says, you can be in the centre of Venice in 10 minutes for e1.25 and the trains run about every 10 minutes, so if you want to save then why pay more?

We had a triple room as we took our daughter with us and it was an ample size yet could have benefited from tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast buffet was great and the staff quickly replenished supplies when food ran out. The restaurant next door belonging to the hotel also served up some amazing food. We ate there twice - the tuna steaks were amazing!

As for negatives, on the 5th floor twe had a very very slow internet connection, so although it says "free wifi" it takes ages to open up any webpage etc. We raised this with front desk and were told it would be improved but alas it never got any better. My only other gripe is that a piece of clothing disappeared and we suspect it became wrapped up in the bed linen, but alas it never was found. Otherwise, a pleasant stay was had by all.

Room Tip: If wifi is important to you I'd try and avoid the fifth floor.

Modern hotel opposite train station. Rooms were very clean (bed linen changed every day), quiet. If you are in the basic rooms a travel kettle is worth taking. There was a good choice of cereals, fresh fruit salad, pastries and hot and cold buffet of meats, cheeses, salads etc for breakfast which set us up for the day. WiFi connection good and free. We found reception staff very helpful contrary to other reviewers.

It is not a physically appealing hotel but has the advantage of being only 12 minutes away from Venice by train. The frequency of which is around every 10 minutes at 1.20 €uro each way. The Mestre station is just across the road from the hotel and you get off at Santa Lucia station (end of the line) within walking distance to all the attractions.

The rooms were a bit dated but comfortable for a short stay with included buffet which was basic but adequate. There’re cereals, tea & coffee, juices, scrambled eggs, some cold meats, bread, cheese, fruits etc. Free wi-fi throughout and in room safe as well. Housekeeping staff provided prompt service; reception staff though alright could be friendlier. A big smile would be an improvement, maybe that's not an Italian thing.

When you exit the hotel turn right and around the corner is the shopping street Via Piave, with pharmacies, grocery stores, cafes, a park where the locals sell their bric-a-brac at weekends and further along a laundromat. If you need a change of taste, there’s a Chinese café just round the corner of the hotel on this same street or McDonald’s inside the Mestre station.

A similar accommodation in Venice proper would cost much more. Because of its proximity and convenience, this hotel is definitely worth considering.

This hotel is convenient for the railway station and you can get a train onto the island easy, they run about every 10 minutes. The hotel is quite basic, the rooms have wooden floors which are not very comfortable, there are no chairs to sit on besides the upright one for the desk, the beds are very firm and overall the rooms looks a bit like a students room. The food in the hotel is good but the service not particularly good, four of us ate together and two received their meals and finished them before the other two were served theirs.

Having read mixed reviews about this hotel, I have to say we were pleasantly surprised.

Staff at reception were helpful and spoke English well, our room was spacious and clean, but it would've been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in our room. Free unlimited internet.

The hotel was well located, with a train station and bus stops right opposite, making it easy to commute to Venice central.

The hotel has a restaurant where we had a very nice breakfast, but there are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. Can recommend the Vietnamese restaurant which is just along the road, where locals eat too, so obviously great food and good prices.

Would certainly stay here again.

Stayed for 3 nights as a base to explore Venice.
This should have been a very positive review as this hotel has so much going for it.
The hotel is competitively priced for a visit to Venice, is directly opposite Mestre Railway Station with trains to Venice every few minutes, also airport buses opposite to Venice and Treviso airport. Public transport passes are available from reception.
The hotel is airy, bright and clean. Free WifI of quite consistent good speed, a complementary room safe big enough for a lap top, roomy room with modern bathroom
The breakfast buffet was well organised and the buffet was the usual basic choices you find in Italy, less perhaps than most countries but nothing at all to grumble about.

The sole reason for not giving a 4 or 5 out of 5 was the very rude and hostile reception staff, a total lack of any service ethic and a constant trickle of small things which only become apparent as you stayed in the hotel.
I don't know what it is with large Italian hotels staffed by bright young things but whatever the course they study to qualify seems to be contrary to what is understood by service ethic in the rest of the world. They seem to be trained in how to be as rude and uncooperative as possible. If your ideal is a Basil Fawty level of service, for instance phoning reception for it to be picked up then put down immediately before you speak, not once but 3 times in a row this is the place for you. Similarly a misunderstanding when I purchased transport tickets and got it wrong and I freely admit was as much my fault as the the person on the desk was a disaster in customer relations. At the end of the day their actions were exemplary in replacing the tickets when they could have dug their heels in could not be faulted. But they turned what should have been a situation to win friends and fans by acting in a graceful, businesslike and friendly fashion into a customer relations disaster by their rude manner and contempt.

Don't get me wrong this is a good choice as a base for visiting Venice, and the non customer facing staff were much more friendlier and helpful than the customer facing staff.
Odd's are you will have a good stay, but if you need help or service don't put your expectations of any form of sincere service ethic very high.
There were a few niggling things too, which only annoyed really because of the aggravation elsewhere. An overflow in the bath that was not plumbed in so just escaped directly onto the bathroom floor and many supports for the shelves within the cupboard missing so it easily collapsed were typical. The idea of reporting these to reception was not an attractive idea

For me replacing the front desk with an automated check-in and a dedicated phone help line staffed by people trained for a customer facing role would have been a big improvement and make this hotel very good.

The Hotel Plaza was a great place for spending 3 nights to see Venice before our Greek Isle cruise.
The rooms were very comfortable and the restaurant had a very good menu and was really nice fresh food.
The location was right across from the main rail station but the bus stop outside was really efficient for getting into the centre of Venice and the Hotel reception were very helpful telling us the best way to see the sights.
They also sell a pass that covers all rail , bus and the water taxis which was great value at around €30 per person for our 3 day stay.
The bus also drops you to the shuttle that connects you to the port for all cruise lines .
