The Hotel Plaza was a gorgeous hotel and a nice break from the "typical" medium-budget European rooms we were staying in around Italy. We stayed on the club floor and found our room to be very modern, plush and roomy.

It's location across from the train station couldn't make it any more convenient, and the front desk staff were very helpful with suggestions on restaurants, travel and even using outside laundry services. Buffet breakfast offered more substantial food than what's typical.

We have just returned from a holiday in Venice and stayed at the Plaza hotel in mestre. On arrival we were a bit disapointed when going to our room we found that the bed hadn,t been made or the room cleaned.Going back to reception they were very appologetic and then upgraded us to a club room which was absolutely fantastic. The staff were wonderfull and culdn,t have been more help. The beakfast was varied and plentifull from fruit to bacon and eggs, lots of choice. The hotel itself is situated opposite mestre train station which gives easy access to Venice, arriving at the Ferrevio boat platform from where you can travel to anywhere in Venice. It is only 1 euro by train and 5 mins.travelling.However we bought a traveling ticket, which allows unlimited bus and boat travel during your stay (very handy), available to purchase at the train station newsagent.Though at 33 euros for 72 hours it wasn,t cheap, but i digress.Back to the hotel, the rooms were cleaned every day,the staff couldn,t be more helpfull and the food exelent. The location was great with lovely chinese resaraunt round the corner. When I return to Venice I will definately try to book this hotel again.1 more tip,I booked early(months in advance), with company called "TRAVEL REPUBLIC" and got the rooms half the price I would have had to pay nearer the time.
I hopethis review is helpfull to anyone wanting to go to Venice without having to stay in the centre.

We stayed at the hotel Plaza Venice Mestre, at the end of April 2010 on a low cost 2 night break to Venice. Having got cheap airfares with Ryanair to Treviso, we didnt then want to spend mega bucks on a hotel which would defeat the object of a cheap break!

After a little research, I discovered that the suburb of Mestre offered a cheaper alternative to staying on the island of venice, so started looking for a nice, but reasonably priced hotel in Mestre, and baged a bargain here at the Plaza; 2 nights bed and breakfast costing us £100 booked with travelrepublic. Other sights were approx £90 per night, which was still good value - especially compared to a comparable hotel on the islands.

We arrived at the hotel at approx 10.30pm - direct coach from airport that stops approx 50 metres accross road from hotel. On arrival we were welcomed very warmly, checked in quickly and a porter helped us to our room.

The hotel has 2 lifts, plus a staff lift. As I am a wheelchair user, I was advised that the staff lift is slightly wider and a little longer than the public ones so we used that throughout.

The room was lovely, large and spacious; I particularly liked the design on the tiles in the bathrooms. There were a variety of ammenities in the room - a mini bar that was actually cheaper than the bar (3 euros for a coke, 4 euros for a beer - so still expensive though), a flat screen tv with alarm and clock built in, writing desk, chairs, telephone and an electronic safe - it was lacking tea/coffee making facilities in the room however I believe this is common throught the area. The bathroom had shower gels, soaps and the likes, the bath was long and quite low with a shower above, there was a toilet and bidet and above the toilet was a hairdrier (typical hotel style).

Breakfast was served from 6.30am - 10am in the restaurant on the 1st floor; as it was quite busy when we arrived - at about 9.15am, and because of access for my wheelchair, they set up another table just outside of the area that was being used for breakfast, but right by a window overlooking the station, and opened a partition to enable me to both access the breakfast buffet easier but not be isolated - realllly kind and helpful - and we didnt need to ask for anything which is unusal.

Breakfast had a very varied array of items, hot and cold selection and drinks, even the fussiest of people should find something to eat there. 1 point to note is that if you want an omelette it costs extra (6 euros I think) but the scrambled eggs are free and a good alternative, also freshly squeezed orange/grapefruit is 3 euros a glass.

The hotel, being 50 metre from the station and 50 meters from the coach depot and only 20 metres from the bus stop, is ideally placed to get to Venice easily and cheaply - 1 euro on train to Venice St Lucia, and venice cards work on the bus.

Access throughout the hotel was good, although an automatic door at the entrance would be a blessing on arrival/departure, when pushin a wheelchair and carrying a case, but no hassles to open door, and when staff were close they always opened doors for us.

We had a lovely stay the hotel and venice were great and would definately return to both.

My 2nd stay--mid-November 2009. Upgraded ( at no extra charge ) to a business-class room, which is larger than the regular standard room, and renovated. Hotel Plaza is best described as a high-end 3* or a low-end 4* establishment. Everything is adequate, no complains. The best thing about the hotel is location--1min. from Mestre train station , and every train to-- and from Venice Santa Lucia stops in Mestre. Travel time to Venice -- about 8-10 min for 1Euro each way. So why not to stay in Venice instead ? The answer is--price. Hotel Plaza offers the same ( or even better ) value for about half the price of what the overpriced Venice hotels across the lagoon charge. Highly recommended.
