“Brilliant welcome, lovely host and caring advice.”
Reviewed 1 October 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Alison did all she could do to make our holiday as relaxing and easy as possible.
Our children who are 7 and 9 adored the animals and the whole set up.
It was peaceful and surrounded by nature.
There are loads to places to go with a young family and enough amenities in the cottage to cope with rainy days.
The welcome pack, bbq, quiche and cake were delicious and really help not to make the next day after the arrival a mad dash to the super market.

“Charming, comfortable cottage with a warm welcome”
Reviewed 14 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

La Grande Gennerie was a pleasure to stay in. Alison made us feel very welcome despite our late arrival, and the BBQ was the most perfect thing to be greeted with after an eight-hour drive. The cottage itself feels very French, has all the amenities you could possibly need, an extremely comfortable bed, warm shower and plenty of leaflets/brochures for what to do in the surrounding area. It is about a 30-minute drive from the nearest large town, Fougeres, and 10 minutes from the nearest village with a small shop, Gorron.

Alison and Harriet were great hosts, really friendly and always willing to chat and offer advice on things to do. We greatly enjoyed the Saturday market at Fougeres, which has an excellent medieval quarter, and Saint-Malo, which is a decent day trip and not too far away (1 hour 30 minutes' drive). All in all, a very pleasant stay, and an excellent way of getting away from it all and relaxing in genuinely rural France.

Just make sure you have exact directions for the last bit of the drive to the cottage, as it would have been difficult for us to find without them!

“Beautiful quiet yet friendly location”
Reviewed 2 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Our family of four arrived to a really warm welcome from Alison. Even though we were late, she managed to conjure up food on the barbecue and we joined her and the guests from the other cottage for a relaxing evening meal.

The cottage is spacious and light, with all the mod cons, whilst still retaining a traditional french feel. The double bed is sooooo comfortable!

The cottage is just outside a quiet little village, though with easy access to the likes of Fougeres, Gorron, Montaudin, as well as activities such as the 'Go-Ape' style climbing centre and the peaceful inland lake.

Alison and her daughter Harriet are great hosts, who really made us feel at home and with Alma the dog, plus Troy the horse, we couldn't have wished for a more friendly, relaxing break.

“Lovely gite in peaceful countryside”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

The owner and her daiughter were incredibly friendly and welcoming, giving us advice on where to go and visit and what would be suitable for our young boys. The gite was very clean and had everything required to make our stay very comfortable, including a washing machine, which was put to use. Splash pool, trampoline, table tennis, horse, dog and cats, meant my 2 young boys were entertained and loved their stay at the gite. A swimming lake, forest and pretty town of Fougeres all within half an hour drive, we found plenty to do during our 1 week stay. Would recommend a visit.

Liked best: the fact the children were entertained and we could relax and socialise in the evenings
Liked least: Wasn't a problem for me - but the family horse was free to roam around the shared gardens - could make some visitors uncomfortable

“Excellent relaxing family holiday”
Reviewed 25 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

The gite was very much as advertised. Alison was great host and went out of her way to recommend places to visit. There is plenty for kids with trampoline, pool, table tennis, and other games on site. The welcome pack including bbq/wine upon arrival was also great. Further you will also meet troy the horse, alma the dog,the two cats and the local cows.

Definately worth visiting

“Nice and quiet countryside spot”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We were two couples looking for a nice place to stay during a week-end for a wedding in the area, and we enjoyed La Grande Gennerie and its simplicity. The owners were welcoming and helpful, and the few moments we spent there were relaxing. We did not have a lot of time to visit the surroundings but there are a lot of small villages and the countryside is beautiful.

“Fabulous Cottage, really friendly welcome, food and Bar b q great”
Reviewed 19 July 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We had a wonderful relaxing 4 days, we were viewing properties in this region, and Alison had plenty of helpful advice, the bar b q on arrival is a great idea, the welcome basket was also great and went down a treat (Wine and food).

The directions are a bit vague, but all part of finding your way.

Fougères is a beautiful town and Gorron and Ambrières-les-Vallées are both worth a visit.

I would recommend this cottage and the host to anyone who wants to relax and get away from it all.
