La Chicca Palace Hotel

Reviewed 1 March 2013

We stayed here in 2012 and thought it was pretty good. This time we were somewhat disappointed. The whole hotel feels tired. Cracked tiles, some lights not working or jury rigged. Some things not specific enough to complain about but just a feeling that the maintenance is not being done and that the hotel needs a month closure... The breakfast room is attractive - in fact it is the bar and restaurant - but breakfast is really typical Italian. Why is it that the country with arguably the best cuisine in Europe cannot do breakfast!? You come out of your room to be tempted by the smell of freshly baked bread only to realise that it is only the false promise of the typical hotel baked rolls that taste of nothing and collapse into dough and crumbs. Soft individual packs of butter, very limited confiture, no natural yogurt and freezing cold fruit completes the picture. The location remains excellent for town, restaurant and ferries. Is there a better hotel in Milazzo? I hope that the Management will read this and react more positively than they have to some comments in the past...

Dear Sir or Madame,
we really appreciate all the advice from our guest because we exist to satisfay their needs.
We are sorry you've have had the impression we are getting tired, or that we do not care about the maintenance.
It is not easy to follow everything and sometimes we do care about big stuff forgetting to check a light in a room which is not however excusable, we should have everything undercontrol so we apoligize for this.
Last year, we bought new bedpreads, new towels, sheets, we also removed all the showers to remove the silicone blackened, now we are ready to change all the TV, we understand clients want to see everything fixed and functional. Slowly we will change all the curtains. About the breakfast we are sorry too, even I did not understand about the natural yogurt, the one we use is a good brand in Italy and it comes from Trentino South Tyrol is a region famous for its heathy products. About the butter, unfortunally we must have individual packs by low, as the sugar, the honey, the jam etc. In the past our breakfast was full of other food, as scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit syrup, milk biscuits, but we have 90% of italian business guest and they do have just a coffee in the morning, we were throwing away food expired untouched so we decided to eliminate some stuff keeping as much as we could a balance between italians and foreign. We are sorry about the bread, but we hope you have had the opportunity to appreciate our home made cake. We will take your advice for the future because we believe they are true and if once or twice we did reply in a not positive way it was because they were deliberately lying.

We thank you for your help.

From the outside the hotel looks a little worn around the edges - this however gives it a warm and welcoming feel
After a long trip a hassle free check in. Most of the staff speak good english and are very friendly.
The room was very clean, fresh and modern. The decor on the corridors and public spaces is very nice and fits well into the atmoshere of the hotel.
Breakfast is typically italian/scillian - sufficient to get you through till lunch time.
There is a good bar/cafe, but no restaurant in the hotel. there are, however plenty in the immediate vicinity.
Overall a nice, hassle free stay
One beware note - the taxi service reccomended by the hotel (NCC) is very expensive

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post comments about our hotel. We appreciate your feedback and we are very pleased that your stay has been enjoyable.
We are really sorry for the cost of the taxi, but in Milazzo there are only private taxi services.
We hope you'll be our guest next time!

We stayed at La Chicca Palace Hotel from August 27 to September 8, 2012. The hotel is beautifully located, to the one side, a walking distance to the Port/ferries to the Islands and shopping stores and to the other side the ocean. Many convenient stores are located close by, including bakery, fruit market, all general goods market and wonderful restaurants. The Hotel offers a nice continental breakfast until 10:00am and on several occasions, I arrived late, yet the owners went out of their way to offer me whatever breakfast I wanted. The owners are extremely helpful and cordial and speak English very well. The room was just perfect! I will most definitely come back again in the future. The Hotel also has a comfortable lobby where wifi is available. The hotel is owned by two sisters, one of which is in the photo at the bar, she was just wonderful. Il nostro soggiorno qui e stata veramente meravilioso. Un bellissimo hotel, con gente cordiale.

On recommendation of trip advisor we visited from 28 to 29 August. The young male receptionist was brilliant and couln't do enough to help us with advice, tours, restaurant bookings etc. The rooms are clean and relatively large and comfortable. Decor is trendy and bright. A welcoming cocktail is a pleasant surprise despite the lack of alcohol.
The only negative was the lack of ice in the rooms. A scotch from the minibar, already expensive was accompanied by a charge of three euro because we asked for ice. We were told it was a common practice throughout the world. Funny that I and my airline employee son in law have never had such a charge levied before. Yes I travel throughout the world on business and pleasure for about one third of the year but perhaps I am not experienced as I thought.

Room Tip: Don't ask for ice

Dear Sir,

english is your own language so it is 100% sure that on purpose you did not want to write the truth. I was the person that talked to you and your son so I know what I said. I never said that to pay ice is a common practice throught the world, you did not pay the € 3,00 for ice, you did pay becouse your son called from the room asking for a room service, he did not come down to the bar asking for some ice, he wanted to stay confortable in his room so he called the bar asking for a ice bucket and 2 EMPTY GLASSES. This is a ROOM SERVICE and all over around the world it is something you must pay that is why it is called "room service". This is a 4 stars hotel and we give services, we do not have a ice's distributor at each floor like in the hotel aroud the aeroport.
What you did it is not fear becouse you did let clients understand want you wanted manipuleting the truth, this is a shame. One last thing, you did not write that at the end of the story we took off this voice from your bill so dear Sir you did not write that you did not pay any ROOM SERVICE.
Sorry if english is not my own language.

Best regards.

We booked an overnight stay in a quad. Unfortunately the beds provided were too short for our tall teen-agers, so we needed to upgrade to two double rooms. The hotel was able to sort this out for us and offer a respectable discount on the double rooms which were fortunately available. The triple room had regular size beds. The hotel is quite new with interesting decoration through out. The bathrooms were quite nice. The quad room had a large corner tub. The hotel relies on street parking (paid), which can be problematic depending on time of arrival. The hotel is very convenient to boats departing for the Aeolian Islands - a 5 minute walk to the pier. Milazzo had a surprisingly pleasant town center - not only ports and refineries as the entry into town might lead you to believe.

Couple in a standard room. Very comfortable and enough space, we do not travel light, had two very large and two small suitcases. Well maintained, very good general aspect and decoration. All equipments in good working conditions. Reasonable breakfast. Courtesy at all times excellent; staff makes effort to assist on special requests (in our case arranged for a same day laundry service outside, with a good provider). Without restaurant, however reception gives good indications to places nearby. Parking is on the street, usually there are spaces available free of charge in front or in the side street (blue marked places).
We enjoyed our two-day stay in may-12. Location handy for the boats to the Eolian Islands, jetty some 300 meters away.

Room Tip: Rooms do nor differ much from each other, except an only suite.

This was amazing time to stay there. Junior suite room is comfortable and stylish, totally worth it to stay there and make a little surprise for yourself. And I had so good sleep at night - bed is really big and comfortable. The hotel has a nice atmosphere with paintings on the wall, and it's quite, fresh and clean. Staff is very helpful and kind - you can ask advice for restaurants and bars, as well if you need some help you can be sure that guys will tell you or try to make a solution for you, to make your stay more pleasant. For sure it was the first, but not the last time when i spend my time there...unforgettable!
