“Like a Step Back in Time”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

As soon as we got to this hotel it was like a step back in time (see photos). The rooms were unique and not typical of the modern hotel rooms we normally stay in. The rooms were very comfortable and looked to be from another era. I've read some of the other reviews and this hotel needs to be appreciated for what it is. The towels are not the fluffy towels you'll find at other hotels, but they fit right in with the rest of the decor. The hotel pool was nice. I asked the staff if there was a copy of the history of the hotel and they said there was nothing in print, which I find strange because this hotel oozes history.

Room Tip: Our room was not in the main building but overlooked the front courtyard. Nice view.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights while on a Globus tour. This is an older hotel in the quaint town of Montecatini Terme. One would expect to go around the corner and see a movie star or two! The grounds and pool area are lovely. There are many sitting areas reminiscent of the past. The desk clerks were helpful. The rooms are standard, older rooms. Comfortable enough, although the bathrooms, like many European hotels are not what Americans are used to. Serviceable, but unique. The breakfast buffet provided for our tour group was typical for Europe but not what Americans like. It is what it is.

When you get there, take the little train car around the town and see the sights. It stops at the corner by the hotel and is just a few euros but very enjoyable and allows you to see the grand hotels, shops, restaurants, and sights that are all within walking distance of your hotel. Do it the first day; otherwise, you will not know all that there is to see on foot. There is a tram car that goes up to the top of a mountain, on which there appeared to be a hotel/restaurant. We wished we would have seen it our first day and gone exploring.

Room Tip: There is construction going on so ask for a room that overlooks the front courtyard of pool. There...

My wife and I stayed 2 nights in June 2014. This was our second stop on our Globus tour. We were in the building across from the main reception area. The room we had was bright with a decent view. The bathroom area was a bit small which seems to be common for Italy. We didn't interact much with the staff. The AC in the dining area was awful. Nothing like sweating when your eating your meals. The food we had for dinner was above average. The breakfast the hotel offered was perhaps the worst we had in Italy. Not much selection and coffee from a machine. Another couple in our group had some personal things stolen from this hotel.

Stayed as part of a group for seven nights, location good, close to spa, park and shops. Rooms small, comfortable but walls paper thin! Food just ok, staff pleasant and helpful. Get a room with a balcony if possible

We stayed for two nights. The hotel is nicely located and our room had a beautiful view. We found the staff a bit rude when asking questions. The walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors very well. We were with a tour group and dinner one night was poor to say the least. Towels in the bathroom are dishtowels not bath towels and do not ask for an iron. I got yelled at that it was forbidden. But for a price they would wash and iron my cloths. Pillows were bricks. We did enjoy the lovely patio and bar. If you don't experience the rude service it could have been one of the best places we stayed.

Room Tip: the corner/end room on the 3rd floor had shutters on two sides and two great views.

We stayed for 2 nights and discovered that rooms can vary, as some are larger than others, and may have an impact on what your bathroom is like. Fortunately, we had a larger bathroom and our room had shutters that opened up onto a balcony that overlooked the street. Our bath had a shower/tub combo that had one glass panel. Bidets seem to be the norm in Italy, alongside the toilet. Our room had 2 twin beds pulled together to form a single bed, as many cruise lines do. The clothes closet was a huge walk-in that also included a safe. Bathroom amenities included soaps, shower cap, and hair dryer. Hand towels are like dish towels (thin) and wash clothes are non-existent in Italy. Our stay included breakfast, which was quite good and offered scrambled eggs, bacon, breads, fruits, yogurts, juices, and coffee. Our wake-up calls were almost to the minute. We would definitively stay at this hotel again.
