“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2013

While on a Cosmos tour we stayed at this beautiful, spacious with a pool and spa hotel. The tour director alerted us that someone had been robed and assured us that guards were on duty and to keep our windows and sliding doors locked. We only stayed there for one night and it's my only regret, we all wish we were there for a longer time. That night a group of us went for a walk and found some street shops open, some of us made purchases and we went back to the hotel without any problem. At the front desk English was very limited. Breakfast was wonderful and the one dinner we had was also awesome. If I ever go back to Montecatini for sure will stay at this hotel.

We recently went on a Cosmos tour to Italy and through them, we stayed at this beautiful hotel. Upon check-in with our tour director she was alerted that someone who visited there the previous week had been robbed by gypsies. She assured us the police were guarding the hotel at night and watching for them. That raised a red flag with me. Well....on the second night of our stay out of the 4 nights one of the couples who was in our group were robbed by gypsys at 4 am. They were not hurt and told to stay in their bedroom. The gypsies took $600 Euros from them, jewelery and passports. Luckily at the end of the tour, the passports were. This didn't leave a good taste in my mouth at all. Although the rest of the trip was tremendous. As far as the staff, they seemed to be friendly and courteous. The food was ok, not great. The grounds were lovely.

....after reading some of the reviews and wondering what I was in for. As part of a tour group, I had no choice but was pleasantly surprised by this one. OK, it's getting on a bit and in parts it smells a little musty, but it's clean. And as I always say, give a smile to get one back. Make the effort to say Bon Journo or Grazzia in their language and there'll be smiles all round. My room was spacious, with an enormous bathroom, heaps of cupboard space and a working room safe. Same can't be said for the fridge, which was always warm, but such is life. The food here was good with a reasonable choice at the breakfast bar. The food was fresh and tasty. I had dinner twice in the hotel and both times it was very acceptable. My only complaint was that we, as a tour group, were not allowed to eat breakfast on the outside terrace; we had to eat inside the restaurant even though the buffet was set on the terrace. I asked why and was simply told it was hotel policy that the terrace was reserved for private guests, not for tour groups. I must admit it made me feel a bit like a 'second class citizen'. Just because we are a tour group doesn't make us boorish.
The hotel is well located for walking into the main part of town, or to the Funicular railway up to Montecatino Alto, the hilltop village. See my review elsewhere for the restaurant on the hill.

Do not stay in this hotel. The staff was rude in many instances. Despite the fact that the rooms were spacious and the site was lovely, I would not recommend staying in this hotel. During my stay, I was robbed by someone climbing in the room window while I was sleeping. There was no forewarning of any problems and when it occurred the hotel staff was rude, dismissive and did nothing to help in coupling my losses. I can not help but believe there was some connection to the hotel but have no way of proving it. Just please be ware.

We stayed here just recently for 4 nights as part of Cosmos tour group. Hotel itself was really nice with manicured grounds, nice pool area and clean reception areas. We had requested rooms on a higher floor after reading reviews here on damp basement rooms and cat burglers. Our room was on 4th floor and was really nice with sitting area, comfortable beds and nice marble bathroom with big jet tub (which we never used).

Just could not believe attitude of staff. Basically they act like they wish you were not there and have this supercilious look on their faces the whole time. Our tour group seemed to be the only people in the hotel the first couple of days so it wasn't like they were overworked or anything. Getting a drink from the bar was like pulling teeth. I just don't understand that attitude. Do they not realize that alcohol is a big part of their profit? You would think they would be falling over themselves to give good service but not this lot. They were very rude and accusatory for absolutely no reason.

The first night we were down in the bar after a disgusting hotel dinner that I wouldn't have served to my dogs. There was a private gathering having drinks and appetizers before going on to dinner. Most of the party were outside smoking anyway and the area was not closed off. Before we could even open our mouths and ask for a drink the barman told us we could not have any of the wine, champage or appetizers and it was not for us in a very rude manner. We told him all we wanted was a couple of drinks from the bar. He very grudgingly served us. This attitude went on all week and other people in our tour group noticed this also. The last night we went across the road to another hotel and sat out on their welcoming verandah and had great service.

Re: reviews on here referring to cat burglers, we slept with our windows shut even though the a/c never was that good. Sadly, the second night, two people in our party were burgled and had their money and jewelry taken. It put a damper on the whole tour especially as the hotel staff and the police really didn't care and stated the window should never have been open. There are no warnings around the hotel or given by the tour group, Cosmos before you travel. The tour guides do not mention it either. What is really upsetting to me is that Cosmos appear to have ignored all of these incidents and still use this hotel.

This hotel doesn't deserve to have any tour group business. I'm writing to Cosmos separately about this.

Room Tip: Request a room high up and do not open your windows at any time! Also, go to hotel across the road f...

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights as part of a tour group. We liked this hotel a lot and felt very safe here. They put us in a suite, very roomy and clean, with two bathrooms, large bed, two TV's and a sofa. The room was beautiful and everything was in working condition. There is no Wi-Fi in the room though, only the lobby. The hotel has a bar but you have to track someone down to get a drink. The lobby and ground are beautiful and kept very nice. You can easily walk to the city center from this hotel and there is a market very close by. The town of Montecatini is beautiful, you can shop and there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. You can also catch the train in town if you want to visit Florence, the front desk can help you. Overall, this was a nice choice of a hotel by Cosmos and the best hotel on our tour..

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Bellavista Palace hotel as part of the Cosmos tour-Splendours of Italy. The room we had was fantastic compared to our hotel room in Rome. The whole hotel was magnificent, only thing though, were the mosquitoes or bugs that kept biting in the garden and lobby area-mental note-put insect repellant/ bug spray next trip. The surrounding area was absolutely magnificent and tranquil, a block away are the shops and plenty of restaurants that offer local Italian cuisine. The town was so picturesque and relaxing. Too bad we were not able to explore the other town, Montecatini Alto in which you go up via a funicolare. If not for the optional dinner tour that we had the night before, we could have gone exploring this area. Due to time constraints of a group tour, we didn't experience to soak in a thermal bath,as Montecatini Terme is the biggest Spa town in Europe. The staff were a little too uptight but were rather helpful when you ask them about something, a smile always works.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the first floor.
