“Do you like blue”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Stayed in this Hotel on a National Holiday. I was not expecting a 5 star hotel. The staff were very helpful. The lift was small but as a 65+ man I found walking up to the second floor no problem.
Like downstairs the room was dated and paint work blue. The room was a double and a fair size. The toilet was a little close to the wall anyone with long legs would have had trouble. Bed was comfortable but one pillow was not enough I took the pillow off the other bed. but still had to use a blanket under them. But I slept well. The staff were friendly and the food though plain was plentiful. Always more if you wanted it. Some people complained about the food. But they did not understand the Italian way of having a meal. They wanted it all on one plate and with gravy..

I stayed here for six days and nights on a National Coach holiday recently, was put off when the coach stopped in the dark at night raining hard and said we had to walk as coach was unable to drop us at our hotel, then it took ages to check in and get up to our room on 3rd floor in a very tiny lift, when we got back downstairs a meal for all was in process however there did not appear to be a space for us two together and I felt that the proprieter could have done more and maybe shown us to our table etc, so we went to bed fed up and hungry. Our room was small and clean and more or less functional, but only one bedside table was not very good I had to use a chair to put my drink etc on for the night and although I did this each day it was never replaced with another cabinet. The tv in the room this day and age is appalling it was an old Grundig box type set and the sound had been turned right down to a whisper and nothing would change that, it needs replacing as this let down the hotel. Our food whilst there as adequate and the staff friendly, we enjoyed our stay but would have preferred better room and hope they get rid of the job lot of dark blue paint everywhere, we all hated this, its needs brightening up, the bathroom although small was adequate and clean with fresh towels etc daily. The orange juice in the morning was dreadful, as we had a free bar from 6 till 10pm each evening we had an orange juice and took that up to our room and drank it in the morning, the air conditioning was good as some hotels in Italy as rather mean with it and they were not. Didn't enjoy the romantic Tuscan meal which in their photos shows it outside, this was inside the very small and very hot dining room shared with a couple that were 82 and 84 and a very tiny candle that kept going out, but it did make us laugh a lot. I will definitely return here.

Stayed here while on a coach trip to Tuscany. Made for a basic base with decent grub and free bar on an evening. Didn't see it during the day due to trips out and about but it served its purpose and the staff were friendly and happy to serve seconds at dinner should you need anymore after 5 courses. It turned out to be extremely hot in June when we were there and the aging air con in the dated room left a lot to be desired but on the whole enjoyed it.

Room Tip: No tip unfortunately as the hotel is in a residential street with no good or bad veiws.

We travelled with a coach party to this delightful family run hotel. It is located in a side road up which tour buses cannot go and thus one must be prepared to walk with suitcases some 250 yards to the hotel entrance. The small lift to all floors was tiny and accommodates two with luggage ... well just about! My first impression was that it was clean, well maintained and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The "All Inclusive" deal that we had gave us free drinks, tea and/coffee between 6 and 10pm every night ... that was a fantastic deal ... well if you drink a lot. Water and red wine by the bottle was served with dinner and you could have more. The meals were varied and well prepared. Typically, a help-yourself salad, followed by a hot pasta dish, the main meal (meat), then dessert often a fruit salad and/or sliced cake. The dining room was small and for a coach load, it was barely large enough. Thus four people were crowded onto and had to share a small table. Thus the promised Tuscan-Candlelit-dinner shared with a couple in their eighties was far from "romantic" but looking back it made us laugh (in the nicest possible way) at the futility of the special evening.
Breakfast was typically continental. The Orange juice was very watered down and to be avoided unless you like it like that.
The bedroom we stayed in was moderate in size, with a good bathroom (shower). The air-conditioning was excellent. A side view over residential property was okay. The room perhaps needed a few more shelves and coat hooks to make life easier. However, the sad old television in our room was out of a museum. I cannot remember the last time I saw a Grundig (tube-type). The tiny colour 12" screen with low definition was a struggle to view, BUT, it did offer a Euro channel with world news in English. Full marks for that!
There was a supermarket just 5 minutes away for those extras. The town is close by over a railway crossing. Shopping, coffee shops and snack bars all within a few minutes walk.
Would I visit again? Yes certainly. I loved the area, which I was unable to fully explore due to the number of day excursions we had booked. The hotel staff made a good holiday a great one. Thank you Hotel Raphael.

Room Tip: No tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but with so many free cups on offer at reception/bar, w...

Stayed there as part of a National Holiday group and there were no other guests. The food wasn't great although there was plenty of it, the staff came round the tables with 'seconds' at dinner. There was a free bar from 8 until 11 ( house red or white wine, water, soft drinks and 1 type of beer). No spirits and unhappily for us - no Prosecco! Strangely the dinner was served at 7:30 so if you wanted a drink with dinner you had to pay for it! The rooms were basic but clean and the towels were changed daily. No bath/shower/hair products but there were soap dispensers on the wall. The bedroom was a bit cramped and although some had balconies, ours didn't. There wasn't anything to look at anyway as the hotel appears to be on a residential street.

I stayed here while touring Tuscany with my orchestra. The rooms were functional rather than luxurious and the bathroom was cramped. The TV didn't work but the staff were kind always. Breakfast was a satisfactory continental spread and there was a nice lobby with sofas and a flat screen TV.
