Swiss B&B La Tartaruga
Reviewed 11 August 2006

We were very fortunate to stay at Slyvie's wonderful B&B. We appreciated her suggestions on where to go and how to get there. Her breakfasts were superb and she spent time making conversation with us. We also appreciated her giving us the opportunity to make sandwiches for ourselves out of the leftover breakfast meats and cheeses.

I would highly recommend this B&B as others have mentioned it is centrally located. Montecatini has all the services you would need while travelling.

La Tartaruga in Montecatini, Italy was the best part of our trip to Italy. It is centrally located to Sienne, Pisa, Florence, Lucca and the train connections were perfect. It took us about 45 minutes to reach each of the cities mentioned above. The bed and breakfast has a homey atmosphere and included an elaborate continental breakfast. The owner, Sylvie, was most gracious and went out of her way to help in any way that she could from making reservations for museums, helping with train connections, picking us up at the train station, etc. When we go back to Italy, we will definitely stay there again. In fact, next time, we will use the La Tartarga as our base of operation for the entire trip. The web site is [--]

My husband and I stayed at La Tartaruga while we visited Lucca and Florence last fall. Sylvie was a wonderful, very helpful hostess, offering assistance in finding our way and places to visit or find a meal. We loved the wonderful room and her fresh breakfasts with the chance to pack up a lunch. The train proved an easy way to see Florence, while the autoroute made touring in Lucca a simple journey.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful B&B in June. What a little gem! The multilingual Swiss owner, Sylvie, did all she could to make our stay little short of perfection. Breakfast is served in the owners' dining room (or on the terrace if weather permits) and is a joy to behold - and to eat. The main bedroom contains a very large double bed and all the usual furniture, plus a sofa and two armchairs, with beverage-making facilities, coffee table and a small library. There is a large ensuite shower room which, like everywhere else, was spotlessly clean. There is a large balcony with table and chairs overlooking the garden, so it is possible to watch the antics of the household pets, including the tortoises after whom the house is named. Nothing was too much trouble for Sylvie and her family and we highly recommend this lovely home-from-home to anyone wishing to stay in this part of Tuscany.

This B&B is located in Montecatini between Florence and Lucca. Good central location for visiting various cities: Florence, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Cinque Terra, etc. B&B is hard to find the first time, be sure to follow directions closely. The “Orange Room” is huge with a sitting area, large balcony, and oversized bathroom. We asked for a private bath, which meant the “Yellow Room” would not be rented during our stay. The owner, Sylvie, allowed us to store our luggage in the “Yellow Room.” We had the entire floor to ourselves. Sylvie went out of her way to accommodate us. She provided numerous maps, directions, and restaurant recommendations. Her breakfasts were the best we had at European B&B’s and included local meats, cheeses, danishes, and breads, as well as fresh coffee and juices. She allowed us to prepare sandwiches to take with us for lunch on the road. For 66 Euro a night, you cannot beat this wonderful accommodation. You will need a car.

My husband and I recently traveled to Italy. We wanted to visit Florence and some of the surrounding areas in Tuscany. Our hope was to find a nice bed and breakfast to stay in while we were there that could accomodate both areas. We decided on La Tartaruga and were so please that we did. The location is very quiet and welcoming. It was, to us, the perfect way to experience authentic Italy while we stayed. The large "Orange room" was exceptionally spacious and immaculate. The bedding was top of the line and the breakfast was gourmet quality. The room and dining room (for the wonderful breakfast) overlook the beautifully landscaped grounds. Although, this Bed and Breakfast is small (only 3 available rooms) it exceeded our expectations. Sylvie, the owner is fluent in English, French, Italian and German and absolutely goes out of her way to make every wish come true for her guests. Try La Tartaruga; you won't be dissapointed! (Wireless high speed internet is available as well). The website just doesn't do justice to the beauty and quality of the inn, but visit the website and plan your trip right away. You'll want to plan your return before you ever leave. For the budget minded travelers: the price is well below it's value! One final point is that Montecatini Terme is just a wonderful little city with quaint shops, fine (but inexpensively priced) resaraunts and very, very kind people. We will go again and Montecatini and the La Tartaruga will be our home base! ---
