“Great Stay”
Reviewed 16 July 2012

We have just returned to Australia after a long European and Moroccan Holiday. Our long stay at La Pia proved to be one of our best. It is great value for money and an excellent spot from which to explore Tuscany and more. What made our stay all the more memorable were our hosts ,particularly Maria, who was so helpful with itinerary suggestions and support when we endured a few mishaps. Would thoroughly recommend and plan to return one day.Ron and Helen Land

La Pia is a family owned hotel where guests are welcomed from the moment they enter the lobby. It is in Montecatini, Italy making it a great location for exploring Tuscany. The town is a spa resort with lots of shops and Montecatini Alto for tourist. La Pia's owners help you with anything that you may need. You are made to feel as though you are the only guest at the hotel. We stayed 4 nights and will stay in the hotel when we return to Tuscany.

We were originally booked into another hotel which on arrival was overbooked and so we were taken up the road to 'La Pia' - we were not disappointed. We had a twin room in a small building just across the road (which looked like an Italian style house from the outside) which had some additional rooms. The room was very clean, and had a good bathroom. We had breakfast in the dining room in the main hotel. As stated in other reviews, the owner Maria is always friendly & willing to help. She was happy to look up train times etc, & her brother would buy the tickets early for us so we just picked them up in reception which was useful. Maria advised to go to a lookout point in Florence which was wonderful, and also to visit the town of Lucca which was lovely. The hotel is one hour by train from Pisa and Florence, and about 25 mins from Lucca. The train service was good and was 10 euros for a return ticket to Florence. The station is about 10 mins from the hotel. There are lots of shops and restaurants close to the hotel. The shops seem to close earlier of Friday evenings. Apparently there are spa facilities near the hotel (not part of the hotel) so take a swimsuit just in case (we didn't get a chance to use this).

Room Tip: We stayed in room 4 , which was a twin in a separate building from the main hotel-literally across t...

We just finished a 3 night stay here. If you look up "hospitable" in the dictionary you will see a picture of Maria La Pia! The hotel itself is clean and well situated with easy access to the train station and funicular to Montecatini Alto. Easy day trips to Florence, Pisa, Lucca etc. Our tour included breakfast and diner. The dinners were especially good local fare with excellent service from the staff.

Hotel La Pia is a medium-sized familly-owned hoteli in center of Montecatini Terme. Our group (17 people) stayed there for 9 days, we had an aquarelle course there. I have never had so good care in any hotel. The owner Maria Pia thouhgt and arranged every possible thing that we would had a good time there. For example she arranged a painting trip to countryside to two old villages, bought in advance the tickets to consert and to train for all group. Food in hotel was exellent and the atmosphere homely.

My college aged son and I stayed 3 nights with Maria in her family-owned hotel in Montecatini. Our room was large and we even had a small balcony. The location was perfect for day trips to Lucca and Pisa and Maria's brother even bought our train tickets to save us from waiting in line at the station. The breakfast was fantastic with many choices of homemade breads, meats, and cheeses. Everyone in town seems to spend their evenings walking on the main street and it is fun to look at all the shops and people watch. The funicular to Montecatini Alta is worth the ride and a visit to the spa is not to be missed. I had a car and made arrangements to park it in a small lot around the corner. I would definitely recommend the hotel and look forward to visiting again.

Nice hotel in a very charming Italian town. The room was big and the bathroom huge. Breakfast was plenty with sweet Italian breads and cold cuts. The location is fantastic with lots of shops close by and restaurants. It seems that Montecatini used to be a hip place for the wealthy, we found luxurious hotels close by, theaters, cafes and high end stores. Do go up in the funicular to old Montecatini the view is superb. If you go by car be advise that the hotel did not have parking we have to park in the street close by.
