“The Perfect Italian Resort”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

I stayed at the Hotel Mioni Royal San because it partners with the RCI Timeshare system, and used it for my home base while I was in Italy for a week. Located about 13 Km from Padova (Padua) - and literally right next door to a train station - it's the perfect location: close to many major cities, but just far enough away to be relaxing and tranquil.

The hotel amenities are all first class - the rooms are the epitome of clean, modern Italian design. Roomy and comfortable, and impeccably clean. The staff is friendly and helpful, and most speak excellent English. The food is delicious - 4 course gourmet dinners and wonderful European breakfast buffets. The raspberry torte alone is worth a trip this amazing hotel and spa.

Oh, and the spa! An amazing array of amenities and services are available, and the pool is actually fed and warmed by a mineral hot spring. It's perfect for a leisurely after-breakfast swim before heading out to do some shopping or sight seeing.

Padova is just minutes away by both bus and train, Venezia is a mere 45 minutes away by train (and only about 10 euros round trip), and other major cities like Milano and Firenze (Florence) are an easy day trip. [Note: The Italian train system is great when it works, but think twice before taking the last train anywhere - unannounced delays and cancellations are fairly common - I was stranded at the Verona station and missed my first night at this wonderful hotel because I planned to take the last train out of Milan, and missed my connecting train as the result of a delay coming down from Zurich.]

Tranquil gardens with lots of shady places to relax. Not much local nightlife, so if you're looking for the hustle and bustle of a major city, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for the "real" Italy and warm, friendly people then Montegrotto and the Mioni are the place for you.

This is a great location and hotel to use as a home base if you want to see several places in one trip, but don't want to move hotels every few days.

The staff at this beautiful resort were most gracious and helpful. Everyone was treated like royalty. The room was spacious, nicely decorated, with an updated bathroom. We opted for full-board and the food was plentiful and delicious, with a variety of options at each meal. The resort is right next to a train station (no noise), so getting into Venice or Florence from here was quite easy and inexpensive. One could also visit Bologna and Milan by train, too.

If you have any interest in this area, this is a perfect place to stay.

Great place to stay, clean rooms and friendly employees.

It's easy to travel to Venice from out of MontoGrotto. If the traffic is normal you'll able to manage to get there in 40 min's. It's Italy they drive with a good tempo :)

The Spa in this hotel is very good. It's a clean place to stay as well as the inside and outside swimming pool.

At first side the city doesn't offer much restaurant but that's not the case walk outside the Hotel go right and first street left. You'll able to see different restaurant. Prices are not expensive, 5-10 euro for a large (really large) pizza. Of course they offers wide range of other meals then only pizza.

I can't rate the Hotels restaurant we had breakfast which was really good. Wide range diversity of bread, meat and drinks. Make sure you try the local "sweets" ;) (cake, croissant and many more carb rich food :))

We went here with RCI points, but had to pay extra for halvboard, but this was the only hotel avaliable for us near Venice/Lake Guarda. The staff was polite and nice, and we enjoyed our dinner/lunsjes at the restaurant, all Italien food. We stayed some days in the hotels spa resort, borrowed bikes and went around in the area, went to Venice and Padova with train and to Lake Guarda with car. We loved both the hotel and the location.

We would like to thank the staff for absolutley ruining our vacation last summer. We actually booked this through our timeshare, and upon arrival, the nice short italian man at the counter straight facedly asked us for 1500 Euro if we wanted to stay there. Guess where we told him to go... And on top of that, there were THREE other couples who fell in the same predicament. During the "dicussion", we were also told that to use the pool was extra, parking was extra...I suppose the toilet paper would have been extra too. We didn't end up staying there as we had already paid and didn't want to pay again. DO NOT stay there unless you want to pay to use the soap!

We stayed here and the staff is not customer service oriented at all. There breakfast buffet is the same everyday, and consists of hard rolls, cheese, yogurt, fruits. You get tired of it after the first 2 days. Dinner is not bad, except there isn't anything to do in Terme after seeing the charming town for a day. So you end up taking the train to Venice, Bologna, Verona, etc... which means you don't get back to the hotel for dinner. The hotel tells you that they will pack a lunch, but trust me YOU ARE BETTER OFF EATING OUT. Lunch is a repeat of breakfast in a bag to go w/maybe a few morsels of meat thrown in. To pay 45 euros per person per day is a RIP OFF. The staff actually acknowledged that they made a mistake in preparing our lunch to go one day, and NEVER gave us a refund on the money. I would stay somewhere else.
