We spent three nights at the Palazzo Bellarmino and it was terrific. We had a bedroom, full kitchen, bathroom and sitting room all clean, although the furnishings were a little basic. It's a perfect location right off the Piazza - a great place to take a bottle of Vino Nobile de Montepulciano and watch all the tourists get into their buses and leave town at the end of the day. Parking is available, but a few hundred meters away from hotel - and a bit tricky to find. The streets are so narrow and twisting and often one way. The hotel provides detailed instructions on how to drive into town and find the parking lot, but we still got turned around and had to find it on the second pass.

Great value.

Pros - good location, CLEAN, large, neat history behind the building (St. Roberto Bellarmino lived there)
Negatives - can be a bit loud - it is a very old building and sound carries very well; the rooms were pretty basic; our room had no view

Stayed as part of a family group for 2 nights in April 2012. This property is very reasonably priced, and indeed was the best value property that we had during a 3 week trip, and located very conveniently a block or so off the main plaza in Montepulciano. Being off the main plaza, it was extremely convenient to the numerous enotecas and shops nearby. The rooms are huge, and beds very comfortable, even the sofa bed that my husband and I slept on. The apartment we stayed in is technically a 2 bedroom, but the sofa bed is in a separate room that appears to be a sitting room when the apartment is being used as a 2 bedroom. The kitchen is very large, and reasonably well stocked. Everything was immaculately clean and it was very quiet inside, which ensured good nights of sleep for all. The apartment is in a historic building, the palace of an important cardinal (Bellarmina), which is pretty cool for a history buff such as myself. Staff was very helpful. Decor took a bit of getting used to, really bright colors in the bedrooms. Overall, really nice, would definitely stay at Palazzo Bellarmino again!

What a brilliant stay at the Palazzo Bellarmino. Rooms are huge, we turned up with the weather just changed and it was ARCTIC outside. Seriously cold and windy. Thankfully modern central heating is available in the entire apartment and heated up the place in no time. We booked a 1 bed apartment and it had an extra study room which we had no need to use, but the space was there if you needed it. Kitchen was huge too, so great for self-catering. Bathroom clean, very functional, and water was nice and hot. Bedroom was a good size and mattress just right type of firmness. Had the best night's sleep of our trip. In contrast to the mod-cons mentioned above, the furniture of the apartments is antique and very quirky - but it gives the place a bit of character, we like. The building used to be a monastery I believe, and therefore has a courtyard feature which makes for some cool photos. Also there are some stairs to negotiate so one to be aware of - no lifts. I think there are about 4-5 small flights of stairs to get all the way to the top floor if I recall (there are 3 floors in total I think). Internet is free but can be a bit ropey picking up the signal. And a brucie bonus - the location of this place is just off the main square - you cannot ask for a better location to see the historic town. At this price it knocks the spots off the other accommodations listed here.

Regarding parking, Kinga at reception was very helpful and pointed out that the nearest car park (2 mins walk away) was free if you didn't park on the street level. How good is that!

Note there are lots of steep hills in the historic town of Montepulciano - shoes with good soles are a must.

When you're in Montepulciano, you know you are already in a great place. We rented one of their apartments for two days which gave us 2 rooms for 4 adults. It was pretty cheap! Plus, they have internet access- one of the perks when you are in Italy and it is so darn hard to get free internet.
The furniture in the apartment was so elegant too...We felt like we lived in Montepulciano for days...

Only downside, you have to clean up a little bit afterwards so you're not charged with an extra cleaning fee. The cleaning and picking up the trash did not really bother us as much because we did not make a mess. If you also need extra towels for the rest of the days that you are going to be there, there is a fee, so reuse your towels.

This place is beautiful. Right beside the square. This hotel is in the old town. You need a car to stay here. There is no parking on site but close by. A more than spacious apartment for 2 adults and two children, big bathroom, 2 big bedrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen and a study. You can self-cater or eat out at the many restaurants. When we stayed in mid-august there was a festival going on, with wine tasting, a fireworks and a show. We found very little english speaking tourists, there was mainly italians, which we loved. You are about an hour's drive from Perguia and we found plenty to do with the kids. There are restaurants everywhere or there is the local supermarket, which is outside the old town.

Room Tip: There is no lift but only 3 floors.
