These apartments in Montepulciano are a wonderful spot to stay for a trip to Tuscany. You will be in a great place for planning day trips. The town becomes busy in the daytime, but in the evening, when the day trippers go, it is lovely and peaceful. There are great restaurants and it may be wise to reserve at the more popular ones. Even so, if you walk around you will surely find a place serving something delicious and walking the hills of Montepulciano will help you earn your dinner!

The owners' website is a perfect and most helpful representation of the apartments. You can see photos of each one, the layout of the room/rooms and the prices. They are available but not intrusive.

Private parking behind a locked gate is available, so you can leave extra things in your car without worry.

Our apartment, Borgo B was perfect for two. Take note that this is an apartment, not a hotel, so you may think about stocking up on a few provisions before entering town. The mini marts in town are pricey and there is a convenient supermarket near Sant' Agnese church.

Our studio apartment is quite comfortable...great wifi, heat (ac too if you need it,) washing machine (no dryer), hair dryer, iron. I would love a couple more towels!

Would I rent here again? In a heartbeat! So...when are you coming? Should we wait for you? ;)

“Wonderful” is a most appropriate word for defining your comment. Lots of info, lots of praises… and one mistake: no a/c - not really needed, in buildings with thick stone walls - but just ordinary fans. As to towels, we esteemed that 3 towels x person x week (one large bathtowel, one standard, and one small) would be sufficient; but we accept your demand for more, and we’ll give you more on your next visit!

What a brilliant description, in only two lines. And what a smart selection of the points to be recommended - size, location and atmosphere - for which the adjectives that have been used are “great” and “beautiful”. Synthetic and at the same time highly appreciative. Thank you!

We stayed in apartment C for a week in July. We had selected this location based solely on Trip Advisor responses and were not disappointed. The apartment is a perfect size for two people. It is well stocked with all the amenities required to make for a very comfortable stay. Remember, this is an apartment, not a hotel, so you will require stocking items such as shampoo, toilet paper etc.

The location in Montepulciano is wonderful. Closely located to all the sites in this quaint little town that has not yet been overthrown by tourists. It also is centrally located which enables easy tourIng around the Tuscan region. Elena, Margherita and Dominique are excellent hosts-be sure to adhere closely to their directions to the apartments, it can be quite tricky. We would definitely stay again!

And we would definitely welcome you heartfully, as we are always so happy when guests decide to visit us again! Thank you also for pointing out the importance of carefully following our directions: true, the way is tricky - but only when you arrive the first time. And by the time you leave, your driving will have improved enormously and you will be as confident in our narrow streets as the most skillful italian drivers are!

This was our first visit to Italy and #1 on our list was to stay in an apartment for one week in one of the Tuscan hill towns. How fortunate we were to select Montepulciano and Appartamenti al Poggiolo. We stayed in Borgo Apt. D which was perfect for us! We found our way from Chiusi in our rental car to the apartment with no trouble thanks to the very detailed instructions made available to us by Margherita and Elena. That's not to say it wasn't tricky, but if you follow their directions exactly you too will find your way to the most amazing week ever! Margherita, Elena and their husbands greeted us as we drove into the parking area and then proceeded to make sure we knew exactly where everything was located in the apartment and how to use the appliances. The apartment is located on the 2nd floor and looks out over one of the narrow streets of Montepulciano. It has one bedroom and one bathroom. The kitchen, dining area and large sitting room make up the rest of the apartment. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, etc. but no spices. We will make sure we travel with some of our own next time. WIFI signal is strong. Washer was great as we traveled very light with only carry-on luggage so doing laundry was a must. No dryer in the apartment but one is available in an adjoining building. We chose to just air-dry our laundry which worked fine for us. The location is perfect. Within minutes you can walk to buy fresh fruit, vegetables and pasta from Rita at her lovely market, pastries for breakfast at the bakery down the lane or try the local wines at the many wine shops in the town. Montepulciano is a very special place filled with welcoming people who were genuinely pleased when we attempted to use our very limited Italian! The location is also perfect for day trips to other towns in Tuscany and nearby Umbria. We are already planning our next visit.

How fortunate WE were, to have you select us out of the many apartments for tourists in the area… Thank you for mentioning the efficacy of our instructions on the way to our place, and for pointing out the strength of the wi-fi signal - a detail of major importance for a good number of our guests; and thank you for already planning another future visit of Montepulciano!

A perfect place to stay! Our 3rd year to stay in Appartamenta #1 with different family members on each trip which has left us with very special memories. A wonderful place to stay for a relaxing vacation with plentiful sightseeing in the surrounding area that I needed to return to experience more venturing further afield and adding more depth to experience this part of Tuscany.
After a 5 week winter stay in Florence on my husband's business trip a few years ago with short trips to Venice, Siena, Rome, and Pisa it was love at first sight for this area of the world. We decided that we would return some day and rent a car and visit rural Tuscany during non-winter months. I picked up a vinyl covered road map of Tuscany upon leaving the Pisa Airport for our return trip back home to the USA. I spent the next 3 years reading books about Tuscany circling places on the map that I wished to visit. Then it was to find a place to stay, some place fairly centrally located to those circled places on my map.
I found Pogigiolo on another web site before I knew about Trip Advisor. The reviews on that website and the information Poggiolo's web site convinced us that this was the place.
It is nice to stay in one place for a week or two and take short day trips by car rather than traveling place to place every day or few days. I like being able to stay in a place other than a hotel room. There are 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room with door leading from the living room out to the owners' garden and private gated parking area which guests can park their cars. The other door from the apartment leads to a small hallway and then the door to a quiet side street in which to walk around Montepulciano.
It is very nice to have washer dryer facilities right outside the apartment door in the hallway for guests use which cuts down on the packing travel clothes.
The four owners/hosts are warm and welcoming, thinking of providing every comfort and modern convenience--WIFI, TV (though I never watched it), individual heat when needed, comfortable beds in cozy bedrooms, and a kitchen to prepare breakfast if wanted or lunch or dinner. We mainly ate breakfast in the appartment for convenience and ate out for other meals.
If you eat out it is nice to have restaurants within walking distance if you don't wish to drive after imbibing in the wonderful local wine.
I would definitely return to Poggiolo if I am fortunate enough to vacation in this area again.

Hello again, and thank you again! For as many infos as we can provide, it never seems to be enough and more questions arise, with every new possible guest, about the town, the apartment - its location and furnishing - the garden, the use of facilities etc. That is why we always feel so grateful to those of our past guests who offer their contribution for a thoroughful description of what the Poggiolo apartments - and the town of Montepulciano - can offer to future visitors in terms of comfort and amenities. Have a nice summer!

What a beautiful apartment! We stayed for a week in apartment #3. We were graciously greeted on our arrival (warning...it is difficult to find the first time, but they do warn you of this! I believe we got turned around on the directions because we went grocery shopping first!). The accommodations are spectacular, and a great deal of thought was used in decorating this lovely space. We had a balcony that overlooked the valley and it also had a working fireplace, but it simply wasn't chilly enough to light a fire! There are two sets of communal washers/dryers which was extremely helpful, but make sure you have enough clean clothes for the first day or two after arriving...all guest check in on Saturdays and due to the electrical wiring capacity, you can't use both the washer and dryer at the same time. Not a big deal for us. We had been in Italy for a week and this was our first opportunity to cook our own meals in the evening. The kitchen was well equipped with all the pots and pans one would need, but no spices (salt, pepper, etc). Again, we stay at many self catering places so we pack a small spice travel set.
The apartment is located in an ideal location. There is parking, which we had no difficulties with, but we also had a very compact rental car. There is a door that leads to the street side from the apartment and it is very close to the heart of the town with shopping and restaurants. We choose to do day trips to other hill towns in the area. If you enjoy self catering...this apartment is a real gem! Would stay there again if we ever visit the Tuscany region!

Room Tip: Please bring your own spices if you love to cook! Room #3 has the best view!

Thank you, for posting such a nice description of our place; and for the useful tips you are providing - washer too busy Saturday and Sunday, advice to go straight to destination when arriving if you don’t want to get lost, and to bring spices with you or any particular item you may find necessary to have since the very first day. All that kind of advice is extremely useful to newcomers, and helpful for us who seem to always forget something when providing information!

Our family (2 adults, 10, 12 year old children) stayed in apartment #2 for a week in mid October. This was the perfect lodging for what we wanted at this point in our trip. Each child had their own room, their was a comfortable living space to flake out after a day of to hilltop villages, a kitchen that enabled us to cook (breakfast) and store food for picnics as well as parking on site.
The apartment location also met all of our dreams. I had spent months trying to find the perfect villa in Tuscany that would allow our family to experience day adventures to hilltop villages, scenic drives, chocolate factories as well as enable us to walk somewhere for dinner and a gelato at the end the day (laundry onsight was also a bonus!). Finally a Trip Advisor reader answered one of my forum posts with this recomendation!
This apartment near the top of the hills in Montepulciano and you can easily walk up the square and wonderful restaurants, or down to the streets of wine cellars/sellers and shops (as well as more restaurants).
The apartment is extremely clean and well stocked with books and tourist information to help you plan. The WiFi is strong and easy to access. TV has many channels (including CNN and BBC). Beds are comfortable and the washrooms (2) fully functional (and beautiful). We did have a hot water problem on our second day but this was remedied within the hour by Elena and her husband. The outdoor garden with a beautiful view, set up with tables and chairs would have been perfect for a picnic or an afternoon drink...but alas we were too busy touring...
We got lost trying to find the apartment upon our arrival. It was dark and you do need to follow Elena's instructions very carefully as this is a medieval road system. In the end Elena's son and husband met us at the bottom of the town and lead us up hill-laughing as this is not the first (or last) time their guests got lost. It was easy to find once you know the route.
We did meet the other guests in the house and could sometimes here them in the evening as the sound prooffing in some of the rooms and in the common hallway is not great.
In the end we had a lovely stay and would highly recommend to families as well as couples who want to expereince Tuscany from a hilltop village perspective.

Room Tip: Apartments on the top floors would have less noise.

Thank you very much for your words of appreciation in favour of our apt. #Giardino 2, the only one which has two single bedrooms beside the master double bedroom. Families with a boy and a girl, or with a young child and a grandmother/father find it particularly suitable, and we were so happy when we read that this unit had met all of your dreams! Meeting someone’s dreams is undoubtedly a great success.
Your mentioning - among the ‘plus’ you were offered - the quick repair of the hot water thanks to our prompt intervention, made us laugh as well as your mentioning your being rescued when you found yourselves lost in the medieval road system! By the way, you are talking of Margherita, with Giorgio and Giacomo who are her husband and son; Elena, with her husband Dominique, were absent during your stay - but that is only a detail, just for your records, in case you wish to have them in order. Sorry you were disturbed by the noise coming from other apartments; a typical inconvenient occurring when two or more apartments are being used by friends or family groups distributed among the various units. They do visit each other, sometimes bringing chairs from/to one another’s apartment, and despite their intentions of being discrete they cannot help speaking loud when they meet in the common hallway. There were two rather vivacious groups, during your stay, using apts. #1 and #4: very kind people, but obviously more familiar with the wide spaces of north America, than they are with the narrow old European buildings! Let’s hope that our future potential guests, after reading these lines, learn to better control their effervescence!
