Owner description: Gattavecchi Winery, known as Cantina Gattavecchi, is the cellar in the town centre -the vinyard is at 20 minutes distance - of an old wine making family, la famiglia Gattavecchi. Here we offer guided tours and tastings of the wines and local products as cheeses and other specialties. It is also a family restaurant! You will discover La Cucina di Lilian, in the charming refectory of the old Monastery of Santa Maria dei Servi (XIII Century), that proposes wonderful traditional dishes made by Lilian Gattavecchi paired with the family wines. Cooking classes on request.

Great wines. We saw a lot, tasted some great wines and, ofcourse, bought the best they had. Enjoying it right now. Nice hostess, took the time for us.

Unfortunately we are unable to rate the wine or the food here as we didn't even receive the opportunity to try them. We walked inside and were shown the cellar by a lady which we viewed ourselves, but from then onwards we were ignored. Once we had viewed the cellar and returned to the common area we advised 2 separate staff out of 6 working that day that we wished to try their wines & food. This was returned with a "just a moment". That "moment" turned into 15min of staff walking past us, talking in the kitchen & answering phones and talking amongst themselves. I would understand the wait if they were understaffed & busy, but this was not the case. The most unfortunate part is that we were recommended to try here by a local, but instead we left bitterly disappointed. There are many other wineries & cellars in the area which will greet you & make you feel most welcome.

Winery located just outside the Montepulciano's historical city centre (something like a 2 minutes walking from there) in a lovely, quiet and fascinating spot. The winery is elegant, but not to the point of discouraging casual tourists. It's possible to visit the wine cave, which may be is not astonishing but still interesting to see. The wine tasting menus are more than satisfying and definitely well priced. The personnel is professional but at the same time sincerely warm and friendly. Impossible not to buy a few bottles to bring home. A highly recommended place.

Great meal and wine here the other night. Try the bruschetta plate for 2, it's massive and great. Good wines as well, I would definitely go back.

Really enjoyed Gattavecchi Winery! Wine is excellent and they treat you like family.

My husband and I were exploring Montepulciano and when it started raining, we strolled right in to Gattavecchi Winery. Daniella greeted us and invited us to take a tour of the caves which was beautiful. When we finished, she greeted us again, giving us the history of the family run business and then we tasted several of the wines. Her brother let us try some of their prosciutto which was one of the best we had on our visit. He also gave us a quick tour of the dining area, which was beautiful. I asked if they could accommodate gluten free and he explained it was no problem and that is wife has Celiac and happens to be the Chef! We bought two bottles of their wine to take with us and Daniella let us know they also started to sell their wine at TotalWine which is a chain in the US. I'm heading their next week to stock up!!
