As we walked up to Gattavecchi I was pleasantly surprised. It had the most charming patio with the most spectacular views of the Tuscany landscape. Before lunch we thought we’d take a look through their wine cellars, which is beneath the restaurant and the church next door.

After this we were ready for our lunch. We decided on one of their Menu Riserva meal experiances (which came with several courses paired with wine). We had no idea that we we're about to have one of our favorite dining experiences in Italy. Our first couple courses began with bread (olive oil), and the "Lillians Fantasy" which was Assorted Bruschetta and Salami meats. This was SO delicious!! Best thing of the trip. The bruschetta was actual a tray of numerous different bruschettas, some with cheese, others with tomatos, some with re pepper, some with spinach, and all using Tuscany spices. It even came with chicken patte, which we all decided was pretty amazing too. (I'm converted!!) After this for our third course we had the incredible pasta from this region, Picci. Think fat spaghetti. But like nothing like we’ve ever had in the US. Our fourth course was, Roast Pork “alla Poliziana” with Almond Puree with Roast Potatoes. (This was similar to one we had in Chianti, but this was even better!!) Each of these were paired with wines from here Rosso di Montepulciano Gattavecchi DOC, Nobile di Montepulciano Gattavecchi, DOCG Nobile Riserva Gattavecchi DOCG The last course was Cantucci biscuit paired with Vin Santo di Montepulciano Gattavecchi DOC

Definitely MUST stop here!!

We spent 5 nights in montepulciano in late April, 2014. This restaurant was right by the 'apartment' we rented. They have their own winery and make incredible reds. We ended up eating here twice. Both times we had the incredible pasta from this region, picci. Think fat spaghetti. But like nothing you've ever had in the US. Their sauces, from wild boar, to rabbit,,to meat sauce, were all outstanding. Their 2007'montepulciano de nobillo for 28 euros a bottle was wonderful! Service is just ok....oh, and do try their bruschetta platter! And their home made pate!!!

One of the best lunches we have had in a long time. Walking in to the restaurant we didn't know what to expect, but we were warmly welcomed to the upstairs, old canteen style restaurant sala. The big tuscan style wooden tables, the decor & the service are big pluses for this restaurant. There was a wine tasting in progress as we were seated for lunch, so we were also treated to a quick lesson on the history of the famous Montepulciano Canteen. The Bruschetta & Meat we ordered were absolutely delicious & perfectly matched with a local red wine. Post lunch, we toured their underground Canteen - great opportunity for those interested in local wine production. Would definitely return here!

We had a wonderful dinner here . Chef Lilian and her husband Jonathan were the perfect hosts.
The food and wine is out of this world.
Also a great place to have a glass of wine and watch the sun go down

We stayed in Montepulciano for 5 nights. We were told to go to Gattavecchi from friends in Denmark. Actually a winedealer who sell Gattavecchi-wine in DK. (our wine-pusher)...Normaly when you get those tips from "Friends". its a werry personal tip....But this time it hit the nail. The warm perfect settings, the warm welcome and the stunning view, to the tuscany landscape and the little kitchen, where a small theater of life and cooking enjoyed us. We had "Lillians Dream" i think. Lots of bruschettas with cheese, tomato and tuscany spice. Off course the local red Gattavecchi.
The dishes we had where simple tasty and delivered with love...Dont miss out a little wine-tasting
with af bit of cheese and sausage. The wine celler is under the church right beside but ask your waiter. Will be back.
