“A Rare Gem in Montelpulciano”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

After a long flight into Rome and a two hour drive that included a few hair raising minutes on the narrow and winding streets of Montepulciano, we arrived at Il Tosco. My wife and I travel frequently but rarely have stayed somewhere so lovely. The villa, our room, the setting and the hospitality were outstanding. Elena, our host, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was flawless, including driving our rental car to the car park because the steep hills and stick shift had left me somewhat unsure of safely navigating my way there. Our room, the Dante, was spacious with a gorgeous bathroom that included a separate shower and a two-person whirlpool tub. The view from the window down into the valley was spectacular. The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice and appreciated gesture. They also have a selection of wine to purchase using an honor system that we also took advantage of. The Continental breakfast is a misnomer - it is more like a Sunday brunch at a fancy hotel with a wide and range of breads, cheeses, fruits, yogurt, salmon, meats, quiche and delicious homemade (by Elena's mother and sister) baked treats. Elena will also arrange a trip to a local winery if you intend to do any wine tasting - although there are plenty of opportunities to do so in town. Lastly, if you stay here ask Elena for her favorite restaurant. We went for lunch and it was the best meal of our entire trip. I can't say enough about how wonderful Il Tosco is.

I have already seen many excellent reviews of Il Tosco, but this is the kind of place that simply merits repeated special mention. Great location (inside the town center but with fantastic views over the Val d'Orcia), beautiful palazzo like premises and the kind of warm hospitality that is well " above and beyond". Whether at a glorious breakfast or at an evening wine and cheese get together, this meets and even exceeds what you would like a stay in Tuscany to be like. We cannot wait to return next summer.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here and can't imagine staying anywhere else. From the moment we stepped in to when we left we were blown away by Il Tosco. Elena and her family make every guest feel like royalty. Their attention to detail doesn't stop at the decor and renovations they made- The breakfast and evening aperitifs include fresh and local bites done just right. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, romantic and spacious. My recommendation is to make Il Tosco the last stop on your Italy travels because it will be next to impossible to surpass.

Room Tip: Dante room is pure luxury with amazing views of the valley

Our stay at Il Tosco was awesome, the place is wonderful at an old Palazzo , Elena and her family do everything to the guests feel at home, they take care with every detail. The room had a complimentary wine waiting for us. Perfect place .

My girlfriend said that "if Will and Kate would vacation in Tuscany, they would stay here." I couldn't agree more. Il Tosco is an old Palazzo, and a church before that, with idyllic views and hospitality. Everything was absolutely perfect. Elena was a gracious and lovely host. Il Tosco and Montepulciano were the highlight of our trip to Italy.

Our stay was here was simply awesome! The building is beautiful, we really loved the way they have renovated such a beautiful old building and kept its charm while still having a nice modern & clean feelings. Elena and her family made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after us our entire stay to an incredible standard.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

We just came back from a 2 weeks trip from Italy and Il Tosco in Montepulciano gave us one of the best experience. Il Tosco is actually very new and luxurious. The decor is traditional yet the bathroom and the details are very modern which is very important to us. The host Elena is extremely friendly and helpful! She offered us an upgrade which was amazing.

We drove from Florence and I used google map along the way. However when you are about to arrive the town, make sure you follow Elena's direction (which she will email you 2 days ahead) to the parking.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night, but we will definitely go back to Montepulciano and stay at Il Tosco again. Worth every penny. =)

Thanks Elena!
