The combination of a beautifully restored apartment and a wonderful host makes this the place to stay in Montepulciano. Elena is a real gem and makes guests feel like part of the family without being overbearing. Greeted with a drink and home made biscuits and a map of the town marked out with all the best places to eat and shop and even watch the sunset. Delicious aperitifs in the evening and an amazing spread for breakfast. We stayed in the Polizano deluxe room, a modern well thought out room with fantastic views. Many small touches make this a very comfortable and rememberable hotel. We really did not want to leave, and we shall return!

Room Tip: The superior rooms are smaller but perfectly formed, for more space and luxury with a view, chose a...

Rarely an accommodation was that appreciated by both my partner and me.

The combination of unique pieces of furniture dating back in the 15th century and the high tech items such as the shower with cromotherapy made us feel living something special here in Montepulciano.

The location is perfect being in the centre of the small town, with the room view on the proverbial tuscan hills.

Montepulciano is ideally located for a multi day trip in the various beauty of the reagion (Siena is few minutes drive).

For us is 5 star, period.

Book in advance and stay at least 3 days if you fancy sleeping in a XV century bed get the room "Dante"!

We spent what had to be one of the best weeks of extensive vacationing in Montepulciano, Italy last July. The hotel, though small, was huge on charm dating back to the 16th century but with old world grace mixed perfectly with all the modern amenities one could wish. The rooms were spacious with themed décor and a great collection of local artifacts scattered throughout. The hostess, Elena Barbi, provided insight to the area and attention to detail that is rarely seen. Her smile graced us at breakfast every morning with a large expanse of delicious dishes prepared by her mother and herself. Aperitif in the evening was an education in wine and local delicacies set in a most relaxed atmosphere. The hotel was perfectly located in one of the most picturesque towns in Tuscany with several excellent restaurants nearby. The Barbi family has given Italy a true gem to treasure, a hotel that feels like home.

A friend recommended this place to me and by the way that she had raved I expected that she had spent a long time here - so I was surprised when she said she'd only stayed one night. That is the impression that this property and its young and lovely host - Elena - leave with you. We stayed for three nights. It was a home from home. We had to ask Elena to stop feeding and watering us quite so much - incredible breakfasts with fresh baked or cooked items, cheeses, fruit - delicious; and then aperitivi in the evening - olives, meats, wines - you name it. The property has been beautifully restored and is truly stunning. The rooms have all of the mod cons, wifi, satellite, lovely soaps and linens, welcome gifts etc etc - but it is Elena's helpful and easy style who will make you want to come back time and again. She will direct you to any winery, eatery, thermal bath or shopping destination that you might want to visit. Well done to her and to Il Tosco.

Room Tip: Obviously the Dante is your finest room and has lovely views over the hills - but the modern room is...

We were 2 couples staying in this small Boutique hotel! We all loved the location, the building (11th Century church originally), the service and the Village itself! Elena is your hostess and owner. She has excellent people skills and gives great directions and advice as far as shopping, dinner locations, and sights nearby. Mama Claudi does the cooking! Need I say more?! Everything about this was Superb!! Excellent stay! Spotlessly clean, elegantly decorated with antiques from the previous owners (who were 16th century nobles), picture postcard views, and the FOOD!! The fresh pastries and everything at breakfast was so excellent.n words can not express how much we enjoyed our stay. We will definitely go back!!!!

Room Tip: There are only 4 rooms currently! All rooms are OUTSTANDING! No bad choices as rooms here! I unde...

We had been traveling by car most of the day, lost many times. When we arrived Elena immediately sat us down in the beautiful living room and offered my husband and I a glass of wonderful, local wine. She handled all of the check in work including getting our luggage from our car, while we relaxed with a glass of wine. The property is beautiful, perfectly kept and well located in a simply beautiful town. Our room overlooking the Tuscan Hills was stunning, with a large and luxurious bathroom. When I accidently locked us out of our room, after hours, all it took was a call to Elena and she was back at the property within minutes to help us out. I would highly recommend Il Tocso, and plan to return myself as soon as possible.

Room Tip: I don't remember our room number, I just remember it was a very grand room looking out over the...

From the moment we met the proprietor Elena my wife and I knew we'd made a wise choice. She was very genuine and friendly and as we were in a bit of a rush she very kindly quickly cooked up some lunch and then drove us to the venue of the wedding we were going to. Before this we had been shown our room which was absolutely gorgeous, everything you'd want in a Tuscan room - character with a beautiful view and a terrific bathroom suite. The breakfasts were also an amazing spread with all sorts of tasty homemade cakes on offer as well as cheeses, hams, eggs, breads etc. There was all sorts of treats in the room and elsewhere always available. Elena made our stay in montepulciano definitely extra special, the only annoyance was that we'd wasted a night in Florence rather than spend an extra night here!
