As you walk through Montepulciano you eventually get up to this piazza and although it is called Grande that is going a bit over the top but it is a very pleasant space surrounded by a selection of old attractive buildings. The most extraordinary is the church which dominates the space but it has a plain brick frontage and looks as though it is still waiting for the marble to be added to make it look like the grand churches in other main piazzas. Inside the church is a vast sparsely decorated and poorly lit space with a stunning alter piece.
When we were there we could hear a soprano singer practicing for a future performance and this certainly provided additional pleasure.
