“Pleasant Piazza in a nice Tuscan town”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

As you walk through Montepulciano you eventually get up to this piazza and although it is called Grande that is going a bit over the top but it is a very pleasant space surrounded by a selection of old attractive buildings. The most extraordinary is the church which dominates the space but it has a plain brick frontage and looks as though it is still waiting for the marble to be added to make it look like the grand churches in other main piazzas. Inside the church is a vast sparsely decorated and poorly lit space with a stunning alter piece.

When we were there we could hear a soprano singer practicing for a future performance and this certainly provided additional pleasure.

“Piazza Grande”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

On your travels around Montepulciano, eventually you will come to the impressive Piazza. With some many narrow streets to walk through, it make this quite an imposing impression. With lots of intersesting architechure to look, during our visit we attended an excellent evening concert in the Piazza.

“Beautiful Tuscan Hilltown”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Whilst staying in Chianciamo we took a local bus ride up to Montepulciano (only 20 mins away) - reonwned for it's fantastic red wine! We were so glad we did - what an enchanting little town, set on a hill surrounded by vinyards with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Lovely little unusual shops to browse in and also some very nice deli and wine shops. The central square the Piazza Grande is just how it would have looked in the middle ages. Appaarently there are some lovely little hotels in the town (old medieval houses renovated into hotels) and I am sure it would be wonderful for a honeymoon.

“you cannot park anywhere”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

not up to expectations; it is difficult to navigate and you end up driving in circles-we gave up and found a lovely place to lunch in a vineyard, of all the hill towns including Siena it is the most difficult in an auto-we found Pienza so much more accessible and Volterrra- you can park right underneath the town. We could not get near anything that looked wonderful.

“Main square Piazza grande”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

This is the main square in Montepulciano.
It´s quite empty but there is a few restaurants around the square and a church to visit.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon location: Edward travels to the town of ‘Volterra’: Piazza Grande, Montepulciano.
It´s worth all the steps :-)
