Description: The Osteria ACQUACHETA, open for over 25 years, has retained the characteristics of the old Tuscan taverns. The kitchen, sharing tables, one glass for water and wine, and not least an authentic welcome and true, typically Tuscan, make it a local flavor ... you feel at home ... Managers, CHIARA and GIULIO, have maintained intact over the years the tradition of pasta, bread, cakes and homemade preserves to which are added succulent steaks cooked Florentine embers of wood. Local, small and very popular, is located in the upper part of the old town, a few steps from the main square.

What a great restaurant. The staff were really friendly and helpful despite our lack of Italian language skills. The starters were simple and delicious and the process of selecting your cut of beef was great fun. Make sure you have the tiramisu for dolce. Really nice house red and overall a really good value night out. Make sure you book in advance.

If you want a quiet meal for two, this is NOT for you. But if you want some good food in a hectic environment, and lots of people around, it's good fun. There are two sittings and we queued outside at 7pm. Speciality is the steak but they are enormous and too big even for two of us to share. Staff helpful with translating the menu and it was nice to chat with the other tourists on our table. You get ushered out for the sitting at 9/9.30.

We had a great, fun/ festive meal on a Sunday night here. This restaurant had 2 dinner seatings - early (about 6:30 pm) and then late (about 8:30 pm). We opted for the early seating. Patrons are seated at long tables with 6-8 persons at each one. One important thing to know: they will give you one and only one glass. If you elect to have wine and water, you will have to switch back and forth. If you ask for a second glass, they will explain that is not what they do. Please know they are not being rude; instead, it is simply their establishment's tradition. In the back of the restaurant you will see the kitchen and be able to watch the food being prepared, including seeing the fire hearth oven. The chef will use a LARGE butcher knife to cut the meat fresh - then cook. This is a friendly, fun place and the owners will make you feel at home. Oh - I should say the food was very yummy.

This place has a big reputation and lots of hype and accolades, but all of the attention is well deserved. This is a truly great dining experience. It was so good we went twice during our three days in the Montepulciano area. Although its signature dish is the steak florentine, the restaurant has an extensive menu. The prices are very reasonable (actually much better than just about any comparable place and the house wine prices are crazy low) and the quality is very high. One of the pasta dishes we had was among the best we had in Italy and some of the starters were also very good. In the end though, you have to get the steak. Is it the best steak I have ever had? No, but it is really, really good and worth it for the presentation and experience (including the owner bringing the actual raw piece of meat to your table before it is grilled). The family style seating adds to the terrific ambiance. You have to make a reservation. I saw people turned away without it.
