The cavour hotel is a business hotel above average, compared to Northern European standards a good 3 star establishment.
Staff is very friendly, breakfast selection is good, but - as always in Italy - a lot of packed items are also offered, besides fresh bread.
The hotel has two big "plus": Very close to railway station (approx. 200 m) and you can enjoy jogging around the old city center, approx. 45 min. one round. Go in the opposite direction of the railway station until you reach the pedestrian area (approx. 400 m), then on the right hand you will find a pedestrian path, where follows the traces of the former city wall (which has been demolished some decades ago). Ask the reception for a city map.
Rooms ok, very clean, modern & new beds, bath room: modern; you should ask for a room to the back if the noise of the traffic (in front of the hotel) might disturb you. Take the bigger rooms, which are approx. EUR 20 more expensive, you will feel like in a 5*.
Trains: Malpensa - connection within 45 min, 1 change required, check with www.trenitalia.it or www.trenord.it (the line to Malpensa is operated by the ferrovie nord); Milano centrale: Direct trains, approx. 30 min.; Domodossola: 1 1/2 hours, various connections, from Domo to Switzerland. (Stations Novara FS and Novara Nord are in fact the same station, do not be confused).

I asked for a quiet room as usual, but it was on the rear of the hotel which faces the railway station on the other side but is still noisy with busses passing nearby. The rooms are boringly decorated. The wifi doesn't work. The halls smell of stale cigarette smoke even though smoking is not allowed. The room was a decent size and the bathroom quite ok apart from the shower head which is no longer fixed properly. To classify this as a four star hotel is an offence to the real 4 stars. Go elsewhere.

Room and lobby are ok, but room wi-fi does not work (even though reception hands out codes pretending that it does - only after bringing up problem did reception confirm that room wi-fi not working). No English TV channels - have Sky box to pick up but not working. No tissues in room.
Mattress very hard. Otherwise, room clean.

Room Tip: Ask for back view - front view rooms are noisy.

The hotel is in a very convenient location with good private space.
It is recently restructured with good taste. The hotel staff is friendly and efficient, we have been offered an upgrade and got plenty of support.
Surely something to recommend if you pass by Novara.

Modern hotel in centre of Novara with private parking. Efficient and comfortable.
Restaurant recommended in their sister hotel is 1 km away but did have an excellent meal and there did not seem to be many other options.
